Nearly 2016 no names plates still?

Yes i was here in beta and yes name plates where a toggle option.

Their was alot of discussion about it, and i can not see for the life of me why it was taken out and still has not been put back in.
NO one loses with this for the people who actual want to play a MMO and see the names of other players running around get to see that, the people who do not
want to see that due to immersion or the fact they do not want to see some stupid names that people come up with, get to not toggle it on and it stays the same as it is now, where is the issue here? both parties win with no downside.

I love seeing names over other players infact its one of 2 problems i have with this game from a basic stand point, player nameplates and the fact you can not inspect others players in game which yes i know comes with its own set of problems.

But i see no reason why the name plates cant be toggled on or off, no idea why the devs are so opposed to it.

What do you guys think can you even come up with a downside?

Nameplates have caused a lot of performance issues in other mmos. SWTOR is the best example, turn nameplates on, framerate bombs out, turn them off, perfect frame rate. That is the only reason I can think of.

Nameplates are horrible. But if they can be toggleable, then I don't mind.

Anyway - good that they are spending time on the game rather than fluff... but no objection to other people having this option as long as:

1. I don't have to see your name plates.
2. I can stop you seeing mine.

How do these "nameplates" differ from what you see in game now? When I look at a toon, I see their name above their head.

I've not played other MMOs, so I really don't know how they would be different. Do you have any screenshots from Beta?

Nameplates are aids. Most of the time they are just used as a tool to spot people that wouldn't normally be seen in PVP.

Every MMO I have played since EQ in 1999 has had name plates as a option and they are always able to be turned on or off, for those that do not want to see them.

This is a reason i could see but i have never had a issue with fps drops in ANY mmo i have played due to nameplates and i always run them when available but it could be

Well i have always run name plates in ever mmo i have played and this has never been the case for me atleast but it could be a thing

Like i said if its able to be toggled if you do not want it, it will 100% not affect you in ANY way you can play the game as it is now all good. its just stupid that its not a option seeing as i have played every single big mmo since everquest and have always used nameplates it adds the the immersion for me, and that a personal thing because it makes it feel like their are actual other adventurers running around in the same world as me.

Having to look at someone just to know they are a player is the problem and with them running around and doing their thing, i ligit have to follow people just to see their name at the moment, that problem 1 problem 2 i have always loved seeing my own name above my head it helps get me invested into my guy for me atleast without the nameplate i really just feel like some random npc rather my own adventurer.

If its toggled like i said i really do not see a problem seeing as if you like the game it is now you can simple not toggle it on and play the way you like. it just feels like they have gutted a big part of the multiplayer part like seeing all the names of others running around above their heads going, *** look at all these dudes.
