When Skyrim was released, Bethesda did an awesome trailer that was made from game footage. The music was inspiring, it was well written, and it contained some epic lines (for example, "and when the truth finally dawned ... it dawned in fire!")
Now think about when ESO was released. They chose to do four live action trailers. They were pretty awesome but these trailers are one reason why I waited to buy the game until recently. Why?
Because what I saw was a company that was afraid to show me what its game looked like. Live action trailers - to me - are big warning that what's in the game isn't worth showing to the public.
(BTW, notice that the FALLOUT 4 trailers are made from gameplay footage, too.)

Oddly enough, if we are talking about the same trailer, those were not live action. They were not game footage, either.

Hmmm ... that's odd. I'm thinking about the trailers for ESO that were released periodically throughout the pre-release of the game, as well as the one that was release for ESOTU.
Those were not live action? (Where live action is defined as: "(in filmmaking) action involving real people or animals, as contrasted with animation or computer-generated effects."). I could have sworn the people in the trailers were ... alive.
If not, where did that skill go when it came to making the game??

Those are both absolutely awful.

I went to a game shop and enquired about ESO, he shook his head and told me to wait for Fallout 4.
That's how bad he thought of it.
This guy should be fired for not doing his job properly. No game shop clerk should ever discourage sales of any game whatsoever. Just because he dislikes ESO does not mean it's a bad game...

I was one of those; I considered ESO not worthy. I eventually bought the game, now that it's b2p and I don't regret it, although there are things I don't like.I believe ESO still has to fight to get its reputation back. The best way if by word of mouth.
Other than that, I agree with more advertising.
ZOS can't you talk to your publisher and ask for treat?
Reputation is bad at the moment, my fellow players who started to play this game in early beta just logged and said good luck & have fun...

I frequent a lot of game shops and have had a similar reaction from the shop kid every single time. Not some of the time... 100%. A couple of them said if you must get it, get it on PC
I don't know.. I've tried talking with them to let them know that it really is a beautiful game but in those circles negativity spreads like wildfire. Not sure what else zos can really do to fix the image.
I can say that personally I have never seen an ESO advertisement. Not in store, on TV, on websites, etc. given I don't really watch tv anymore
