Hmm might be a stupid question, can I change my route?
I'm in Texas and get usually get an 80ms ping. The route you take over the internet is not adjustable from your end (except possibly by changing your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to another who may have a better uplink into the backbone).

Yeah you can't change routes really unless your ISP changes their main routes or you change ISP providers. I have fiber to the home on an extremely clean line. I tracert and run logs constantly gaming to check on my in game latency. I have some work stuff going on so my speed isn't the usual over 800/800 but it's not bad right now.
Are you basing your ping on the in game latency tool? I've seen many times mine has reported very high latency yet my actual logs are not showing that and my game play is not acting like my ping is wack.
Well im in EU i havent seen ping lower than 150 yet. In Cyrodiil campaigns its around 200-999 usually. Just for example right now its around 555 in Azura's Star
I play on Ethernet with a router in between.yea I'm basing my ping off of the latency.thought that was the same...hehe.maybe I should have said latency to be clear.sorry all.
I'm in northern eastcoast of NA (Canada) and my ping is always 110 to 180 on average. This is rather high ping for a top-end game. Normally games seek to have about 60 ping or less to avoid latency issues.
I see 90-125ms pings quite often, and I live on the east coast. If you're looking to shave a little bit google about changing your DNS server. If you already know howto I suggest giving Google DNS or OpenDNS a shot. This will not change your route, but their servers may have better caching than your ISPs.
Alternatively, you could run a cache-only DNS like myself that gives me about 20-30 ping back on most days--by reducing the amount of calls to root servers I send with traffic.
Ive used a program called WTFast thats supposed to reroute for you. A lot of people are sketchy and I dont blame them, but I myself notice at least 30 lower than without, and I have yet to notice any errors/problems from it. Worth a shot, its free.
