The reality of a newbie PvPer entering IC

Tonight I will find out what IC is really all about. I'm not afraid to say I'm new to the PvP experience and actually prefer PvE. But with all the debates on what IC is/was/could've been, I'm going to enter it tonight and see for myself. Has anybody else avoided IC yet? If so, why? :)

I love stalking the sewers and disticts soloing and hunting players down or small groups.

It can get addictive, make sure you are in a group to begin with, to ease you in.

Figure out what you want out of IC and play accordingly:
    • Want Tel Var stones? Get into a small group and find an out-of-the-way place to farm.
    • Want lots of loot and trophies? Join up with a zerg and run back and forth to the center of the sewers.
    • Want to sneak around and gank other players? Be patient and have an escape plan.
    • Want real PvP? You're better off out in Cryodiil proper.

Honestly? It sucks. A lot of the content relies on having a group at your back, and I do like to solo. I tried to PVP there, but there was a big bad nasty zerg of daedra around the corner every time. The districts are a god damn mess. The other solo people I ran into didn't want to fight in fear of losing their stones - this really bugged me because they have a 50% chance of taking mine too. Ok, 20% chance, but they don't know that!
Don't get me wrong, IC had a lot of potential, but it just didn't work out for a lot of people.
Hope this whets your appetite.. Have fun, and I'd be looking forward to hearing about your adventures if you update the post :)

Just be familiar with the layout.

Also to look out for is the roaming bosses. Their patch is very predictable, so if you're by yourself or in a small group, just keep an eye out.

Those things are insane. I ran into an AD guy down there while I was standing near the King Daedroth roaming boss. I started to buff and jump as if to say, let's kill this thing. He took the first shot, I cloaked and ran away while it ate him to pieces.
Ok, so maybe there is a bit of fun to have in IC.

Xendyn has some good tips. One tip that I like is use the speed boost and immovable potions so you can escape the zerg when they come. If you have alot of stones, use the potion then cut and run. Pick your battles. Don't group with more than 12 people. I like to run is groups smaller than 4 and go away from the zerg so you get more stones. Open all backpacks, urns, and drinks you find also. Have a chance of getting the vr15 potion reagent Lorkham tears.

I was ganked about 5 times in IC, 3 times while afk. Ran with groups of 16-20 players most times I ventured into IC. Rarely ecountered enemy zergs (only twice) over a two week period. One thing I did, was to bank stones in small amounts, the multiplier never reached 3.
Another thing to be aware of, are enemy players sitting outside sewer entrances.

Don't run into the giant eyeball boss like I did. :D If you see a guy walking round with a banner/rig attached to his back, looking like he escaped from Silent hill- run or hide. :o if you listen carefully, you can hear him coming. ..some kind of ominous heart beat sound.

A fellow pvp noob here. I found it most fun when I tried not to concentrate on stones and remembered , they can take my stones but not my dignity!I mean..er trophies and decon loot.

Don't forget to loot barrels/dressers etc. Some provisioning recipes/charcoal of remorse in there..

Some chests are traps that spawn mobs when you try to open them.

I hear that if you see a treasure scamp , you can stop it from teleporting it away by interrupting it..(and then resume trying to kill it). I've not successfully done this yet so...not an expert

Legerdemain force lock and reduced sneak cost also comes in handy

Don't forget you can decon stuff and put things into your bank in the base. Oh and you can repair etc too.

Sewers- less chance of being killed by other players
Topside - more chance of being killed by other players

I quite agree. I tend to skype with friends, and while doing so there tends to be a little rectangular box that shows up in the lower right corner of my screen. I move it to cover the display of how many stones I have, so I don't notice, don't think about it, don't get too attached.

Then when I get to the bank, if it's more than zero, yippie for me.

And to share parts of a filk that's shown up on Thread for PC users:

He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of fightin' all different races
    Knowin' theyve been defeated
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind me sayin'
Ive seen your look on many faces
For that worn out blade youre wearin'
    I'll give you some advice"

You've got to know when to tank 'em
    Know when to gank 'em
    Know when to bolt escape
    and know when to stealth

    You never count your Telvars
While your still inside the sewers
'Cause until its with the Banker
    Could become another's wealth

Got a chuckle out of this. Yes, yes I totally agree. But a "zerg" is like a "fair tax" - it's one the other guy has.

20+ yes, thats a zerg. Although, it was not my point. My point was only encountering enemy zergs a couple of times. Not that I have any problem with other alliances forming zergs in the sewers.

I'm afraid you're coming too late. It's quite dead lately. You can still find some PvP but if you wanted to grind your mats/runes/whatever in zergs, the time has passed.

The storyline was quite good actually. So you have that to look forward to.

There are several skyshards to hunt down, lorebooks also. It's good stuff.

But, as others have said, prepare to be ganked. Good news is while in the above ground districts you will spawn very close to where you died. In the sewers though you always spawn at home base, which can end up being pretty far away.

Expect to either run into someone whos so strong he can solo pretty much everyone he runs into...even groups that has an insane amount of champion points and the best gear who will probably kill you in about 3 hits or a zerg full of subpar geared players who simply by sheer numbers will rek you.

Trust me if a Zerg sees you, it doesn't matter if you're alone....30 and I repeat ALL 30 will jump on you, its sad to watch tbh.

They'll prolly all t-bag as well....even the random low levels who did 0 damage to you.

PvP in IC or Cyrodiil never strays from this.

IC story is p good doe.

Don't worry about how well you'll do/feel in IC. Just try it out at least a few times and see how it fits you. As VR16 (which does help) with low CPs, light-armored without the best gear, and still lacking skill points because I hate the PvE/sky shard slog, I don't particularly enjoy IC because it is too much PvE for my taste. The mobs hit hard, and I generally don't have the resources to do both damage and healing/defense let alone survive some other player(s) built to gank. I'll do small groups mainly for mats, but I prefer Cyrodiil for actual PvP (which IC isn't).
