Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

So with Orisium we are being forced to spend points in crafting skill lines?

From the test server notes:

•For example, if you have Metalworking 9 and Woodworking 1, you will encounter Voidstone Ore and Maple Wood in the wild since your Metalworking level is high, but Woodworking is of a lower level.

So basically on the character we are adventuring with, if we want the latest harvesting nodes to drop what we need we have to spend points even if we don't craft on this toon. Seems pretty lackluster to me, especially if this is the trend going forward and new materials are introduced.

I'm sure I cant be the only one who has at least one dedicated crafter and doesn't craft much on the toon they adventure with.

I don't like this either. My fully leveled, fully researched crafter is only that...a crafter. I never play her. So now, if I want the high level stuff, I have a play a character that I don't want to play.

Hm, well, my main is a crafter in clothing/wood/smithing so it won't be a problem for me ... (though I guess I can see why others would not be happy about this ...)

Still, very happy there are Rubedite and Ancestor Silk harvesting nodes now!

The skill point thing is a much smaller concern than the rarity of new mats even with passives maxed. How are you going to feel after dropping those skill points, then after 3-4 hours of harvesting, coming back with 10 or so unrefined mats? Double whammy. >:)

I am working all crafting skills on my first character, but wasn't having much fun playing a DK/Bosmer Archer/DW, so I re-rolled a Sorc/Altmer Resto/Dest and I'm loving that character. Essentially, if those changes are added for the new DLC, I will simply stop gathering any and all resources, because the base resources are only really good for gathering tempers. Seems like a really silly change, as the level of the resources should be based on the character level or zone level, not the players crafting skill levels. Just my 2 cents though.

but you want to get resources that you can't use because.... ?

and don't say 'sell them' because if that was a thing you'd just farm items in cyrodiil.

Maybe, finally, we will see the death of the "Crafting character" and the "Adventuring character" and the "Mule character" and just get.... "Character".

A crafting alt that you have maxed and then don't play, you just use it to churn out the latest set your "main" needs? Seems pretty sad to me.

You consider it sad that those who dont want to spend hours upon hours, if not days, doing skill point questing and skyshard farming on ALL of their characters just to max crafting in addition to their build? I find it sad that people have the amount of free time needed to max crafting on more than one toon. We should be able to gather max level materials if our character is max level, not their skill.

This is a slap in the face to those with less time to play that devote just one character to crafting. I still want to be able to gather V16 resources when I'm playing on characters that are not my "crafting" character, this is a unwanted change @ZOS_RichLambert

This is bad for characters with crafting alts, but I think the intention is for this to be useful to people who are leveling crafting.

What I think we'll find is that Orsinium will only be used for grinding once people have done the quests / shards. The arena will have appeal, but that's basically just a grind spot. I don't really know how much 'end game' will be done here, I'd expect the content to become stale pretty quick.

To do writs... I've got 2 of my characters (the VR12 and the VR16) with all of the crafting skills at max, the others all have provisioning maxed, 1 has blacksmithing maxed, 1 has clothing maxed, and I'm currently working on maxing the other equipment crafting skills maxed on all of them. It's skill point intensive, but some days I just feel like doing a ton of writs rather than running around adventuring (it can be relaxing every now and then), so once they're all maxed out I can do that. Oh, and also that way their hirelings bring back higher level mats.

Mind you, I'm not saying you need to max out blacksmithing on all of your characters, I'm just giving you a reason why I want to, and a reason why you might want to consider it. Alternately you might think it's totally not worth it.

You only have to have points in the primary passive. You don't have to have a single other point spent (so you're looking at <10 skillpoints per line to get max level mats, hardly out of the realm of possibility)

It makes some measure of sense in the regard that only then would you be trained to look for the specific material.

Beyond that, it's not like it's the only place to harvest mats for your character.

If the "20 hours of Storyline" PvE content scales the same as IC did, you'll be done with it in a weekend anyway.

Same as @UrQuan for me. I dont do research on all my characters, only my "Masters" are completely leveled in their craft.
All of them, however are leveled enough for max writs and hirelings. When Psiijic Ambrosia came out, I was able to do 5 provisioning writs a day and I'll be able to collect max mats on anyone that goes to Orsinium.

It's easy enough once you have a vet character or two. You just pass down glyphs and items to decon to the lower levels.
Plenty of skill points available if you play the game and not just grind.

Yes, because limiting play choices and forcing people into certain boxes always works out well in the end
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

How is it a slap in the face? All of the other zones work the current way. This is one zone you do not even have to purchase. I mean, come on, a game choice that does not line up with your preference is not a direct affront to you, or the developer twirling a gigantic black mustache. Or is every player continually getting smacked in the face as gameplay decisions are made that they do not agree with?

On any character I have ever started I crafted on while playing usually focusing on what gear I needed and then enchanting and alchemy. For me it's better to make the gear on the character I am currently/actively playing then swapping banking swapping and withdrawing.

I guess I am lucky that I have balanced my VR 9 NB main as mainly a crafter but still able to pve with decent dps/surviveability.

Trying out cloth dual wield/heal stave but I think I will go back to heavy armor shield/heal stave, as that enables me to survive alot better and I can kill mobs faster with traps and leaching abilities than I can right now.

As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

I can understand why some with dedicated crafters would be upset. My friend I game with is set up that way and now he's dumping tons of skill points into crafting in anticipation of this move. I've always set up my main to be my dedicated crafter because I want to be able to do the highest level writs as well as have quick access to anything craftable. Anyone else set up that way isn't going to have any problems. Spoiler alert: that's how the game was designed to be played. I'm not one of those that has a ton of time to play. I have a job and a family and I get 1 maybe 2 nights a week. All my crafting is maxed, my build is solid, and I'm leveled up just fine. If I can do it anyone can. As for my friend, he has one main and had completed Cadwell gold and has plenty of skill points just sitting there so the transition for him isn't a problem either. Anyone who thinks there will ever be a game anymore that can always be played anyway anyone wants to play is living in a fantasy world. There will always be rules and updates and little nudges in certain directions. It's not always what we individually want but as long as the game is fun we play on. The word of the day: acceptance.
  • stewart.leslie76b16_ESO
The way I see it is that Orisium is a crafter writ paradise, it's only going to drop the materials you need to do the writs for that character. Ever single zone drops different types of materials one way or another so I don't see why the new nodes is a problem unless you are solely PvP player and you've done none of the story.

However, was it not said that this DLC would be in favour of the PvE crowd?
