Don't hurt me!

KrixusBlade
So I've been searching for more information and all the posts I find are pretty old.

So I want a more updated answer before I move along too far in the game. Heavy armor on a dps Templar, good or nah?

My biggest thing is esthetics, I'm trying to build something similar to a ret paladin from WoW. I would have zero problems with medium if there are sets that look paladinish, you know, holy knight kinda thing. If heavy isn't end game viable are there mid sets that would match what I'm going for?

I'm inclined to say no unless you mix in some medium or light depending on how you decide to play it. In saying that though, I made an entirely heavy armour healer work in PvP and I'm working on a heavy armour magicka sorc.

I agree. Always mix in a couple of light for templar. Just incase. Have a light hood and belt. Treat yourself.

Aedric mostly. I did get flare from dawns wrath for the 20% boost. That + charge (2hand) is a pretty nasty opener I've found.

I would have no problem throwing in some light. I think the hoods are actually cooler than the helmets in most cases

    Agreed there!

There we go, run a couple of light, rest heavy. You should be grand

I have a full heavy armored stamina templar. I used to go with a mix of medium/heavy but made the switch after IC dropped just to try some things out. His dps and survivability is very good. I main hand 2h wep and swap over to either bow or resto staff depending on the situation. Even with no points in magic, the little heals and support moves he throws out have been the difference in wiping or clearing group content. I have had success in pvp as with this character as well.

If you're a Breton the light head piece is probably one of the best looking ones at later levels in the game IMO. But going 5 heavy, 2 light for a magicka build or 5 heavy, 2 medium for a stamina build should give you some coverage. Remember that you can always get gear sets made to offset loses.

Cool. With the heavy perks as a dps would you recommend any of them or worry more about attack perks?

if aesthetics is important, my advice for you is see what style appeals to what you want to make, but dont get hung up on having all heavy armor. Some armor styles look like heavy/plate armor even when light armor. eg dunmer/red guard

    light amor
    medium amor
    heavy amor

and mix and match so you get the look you want and can get the armor passives you want. You need 5 pieces of armor of the same type to unlock all the passives in that armor tree.

for you wanting a holy paladin it is actually very easy to make something that looks like you want and is effective.. Id look at magicka build with heavy armor chest, heavy or medium armor on another slot eg legs, then light armor on the rest. that way you get the passives you will want and the look you want to be effective.

    for example
As a male you might chose:

    redguard/breton heavy armor chest
    Any heavy armor legs

    altmer/breton/daedric light armor hood
    redguard light armor shoulders
    Dunmer light armour shoes
    altmer/Any light armor belt

and you are actually doing well having 5 pieces of light armour but the large armour slots having heavy armour will make you a little more survivable. your DPS will still be good. at least better than pure heavy armor for the sake of it. (imo)

You can't really go past medium for stamina dps builds imo. The passives are just too good: Weapon damage, stam regen, sneaking bonus, evasion. But yeah, finding a set that with the aesthetics you want might be tricky.
The new Xivkyn style is REALLY nice, and with the right dye combination you could probably make it work - http://eso-fashion.com/xivkyn-rubedo-leather/
Although it's medium, it somewhat resembles heavy armour.
Or there's Glass - http://eso-fashion.com/glass-superb/. With the hat turned off this could be an option too. With a nice grey steel and gold I can see that looking rather Paladin-esque
  • KrixusBlade
Pause. I think I looked over something. Can you use other race looks. Like can a Breton style his armor to look like something a altmer would wear?

Wear 5 pieces of medium, 1 piece of light, and 1 piece of heavy. You probably don't have the undaunted passive that makes that settup worthwhile yet, but you will want to get it ASAP, because it's worth it.

If you want to look like a paladin from WoW. Then make you heavy piece theBreton heavy chest. Make your legs, hands, and boots Dunmer medium. Make your waist Breton light. And make your shoulders Xyvkin medium, this one is a bit expensive, but they are the only large medium shoulders, and the only ones that look like heavy plate. I would suggest just hiding your helm, since there really isn't any helms that look Paladin like, but the Dunmer medium might be a good choice.
