@ZOS Microsoft's purchase of Havok (what's this mean for TESO?)

I don't see it having any change just one company buying another. The products from Havok have been implemented in ESO so unless ZOS ask for a new product not sure why there would be any change.

It won't mean much, I think.

Assume the worst, that Microsoft makes the Havok engine an exclusive property for Windows/Xbox. All that will happen is game companies will find another physics engine and migrate to that. And Microsoft will be like the Empire in Star Wars -- the tighter their grip the more software companies will slip thru their fingers.

Basically this is another in a long line of poorly thought out acquisitions from the folks in Redmond. With a few notable exceptions every time they buy a company they end up losing piles of money on it. Look at their purchase of Nokia as a recent example.

I always love it when an armchair manager is telling Microsoft what to do or not.
Microsoft, one of the most successful companies ever on this planet.

Sure even companies of that size make mistakes. 'Microsoft Bob, anyone?'. But not that much, else they wouldn't be so successful. Failures are normal when you are taking risks.

Btw, it's too soon to consider their Nokia purchase as a failure. By coincidence I bought earlier this week a Nokia Lumia. It's one of the best phones I ever had and I had many. Including Apple stuff. But if this will be enough, I don't know. It's too early to judge.

This could be a good thing.

Intel had no motivation for making sure Havoc was optimised for non intel products.

We could see some more even handed code and better performance across the board.

It's my understanding that only part of Havok is used as physics middleware in ESO for things like handling characters and building destruction in Cyro.

Don't see this having much, if any impact at all.
