Oh, I know. I was thinking 65 was a solid choice but someone told me the cap is 60 exactly. I've been looking for the actual specific number but nothing as of yet.

As far as i am aware - there are no soft caps nowadays, the diminishing returns are history.

There is a hard cap for crit chance implemented. It has been in the game since start and has never been removed.

It's at 100%.

Crits will always have a Diminishing return after 50% anything anywhere. The only exception is if said crits cause an effect. For the purpose of RNG anything past 50% is less effective then anything below 50% thus you get diminishing returns. This shouldnt be questioned because it pretty much goes for everything in life. Back to the exception. Effects caused by crits will change how your DRs go since something is raising while the other is falling.

Since were talking in terms of critical damage in a video game and not just the 50% of 100% math. You generally get to pick between crit chance or crit damage or just damage. Most of the time you cant max out all 3 or sometimes even 2. Thus you must balance the 3 to get the most effective numbers.

Common sense says. If you go too high on crit your max numbers suffer. If you go too low you'll never crit. hence the 50% spot is your most effective spot because you are balanced which is the ultimate goal of the 2 stats. People will say high crit 70%+ is awesome but its nothing more then a fools wild goose chase because they see bigger numbers more often then little ones but will never outdo someone at 50% Who will see the numbers less often but for much much more.

There is a more simplified way of thinking about it which doesnt exactly fall on true math but just the idea around it. Treat the 100% as if it had a slider. Left side is crit chance right side is crit damage. The more you move it to the right the higher the crit chance but you do less crit damage. Example: 70% crit chance 30% crit damage. Or the other way. 30% crit chance 70% crit damage. Having them both at 50% is balanced.

I always say 50-60% while you will lose a little damage atleast you wont be at the mercy of the rng gods 24/7. Aiming for 100% crit chance though while not being able to raise crit damage will ruin you.

Well, I definitely felt more bursty after switching my weapons to daggers / crit chance. The thing with NB's is they get crit damage passives, so you are benefiting from higher crit chances than other classes. Also, penetration is good, but crit/weapon power also lends itself to your rally/vigor heals. So while not necessarily doing the most effective dps, I have found I survive noticeably better with the higher crit chance and points into the phys damage / healing taken / healing performed traits for CP.

As for the OP, I think he means the max attainable crit % in terms of gear... I do not know the answer.

Just a matter of maths.

70% crit chance with +30% crit damage means a 21% DPS increase.

60% crit chance with +40% crit damage means a 24% DPS increase.

50% crit chance with +50% crit damage means a 25% DPS increase.

40% crit chance with +60% crit damage means a 24% DPS increase.

30% crit chance with +70% crit damage means a 21% DPS increase.

For every %crit chance you got, make you sure you got about 1% crit damage. If you're on PC, make sure you get an addon to also know what you +%crit damage is.

But knowing when it's better to go for spell power/weapon damage is another thing entirely...

I'm also curious on this as I have 52.9% crit %, 3537 Weapon Damage, & Not sure of my Crit Damage as the # Doesn't appear on PS4 while running dw n Shadow Mundus . If I run Warrior, I have 3828 Weapon Damage, 55.6% Weapon Crit % n still unsure of crit damage numbers but can't seem to see what is more effective for higher DPS. I also run a bow or 2h on backbar so numbers drop significantly when those are equipped. I just want to know what is offering me more DPS n can't seem to see a noticeable difference when running either mundus stone. Anyone able to enlighten me on this?
