Why do some people use "Daedric Pray" instead of "Velocious Curse"?

Was just wondering why this seems to be the choice of many damage dealing builds and I'm sure I must be missing something.

Assuming you DO NOT use pets, what reason would there be to use Daedric Pray?

As far as I know, "Daedric Pray" takes longer to detonate while dealing the same amount of damage
Velocious Curse on the other hand takes almost half of the time than daedric pray to detonate, and deals the same amount of damage, hence resulting in more dps because you can get almost 2 curses off by the time you would have gotten only 1 Daedric Pray off.

Am I missing something?

Personally even if the DPS with Prey combined with Atronach ulti is good it's not worth constantly respeccing....

I quite like PvP and going to the IC.... prey is useless there, Velocious is far far better due to the shorter detonation time.

SO it makes more sense for me to stick with Overload as an ulti and use Velocious Curse, rather than the atronach & Daedric Prey.

Well lets see about this...

It still makes no sense mathematically.

The 40% increase on Atronach does not equate a higher dps than the curse occuring more often.

As its a constant ratio I can use my stats to represent all levels of damage.

Atronach does close to same amount as velacious or daedric prey, and then does a bit more dmg.

If you use velacious you have 1069 dps (just using my numbers, just velacious dmg divided by 3.5) then you compare that to Daedric prey running at 624 dps (velacious or Daedric divided by 6) then add 40 percent of storm entering dps 250, equalling 874 dps, still 195 dps short of velacious.

I really doubt the dps from atronach's constant attack makes up the 195 dps. And even if it does a player can leave the AoE and you lose dps.

THE only way the DPS of Daedric Prey to be higher than Velacious Curse is for you to have All three pets out and attacking every time during their 2 second attack phases.

It just LOOKs like Daedric Prey is better

Edit: things get even worse if you are on console and or multiple enemies. As you cannot control the pets, on console, they will attack seperate enemies if there are more than one. You cannot guarantee all attacks that could occur will be directed at the cursed target.

Pets will not attack a cloaked enemy, velacious gets a huge advantage against a NB over Daedric, if they cloak and cause the pets to not attack once, the dps goes all to hell. The curse does not prevent the enemy from disappearing, the explosion causes the NB to appear.

So even when the Daedric Prey does out preform velacious, it is EXTREMELY situational (not to mention dedication of 4 to 6 (depending on how you look at it) slots)
