For a DK, running Molten Whip which puts him in Melee Range, which set is better for PvE DPS? Assume the traditional DK build ML/Inferno/engulfing/burningembers/whip
It really comes down to 1328 auto turret damage vs 1328 spell crit and 240 spell damage (+48 spell damage from major sorcery) and the proc chance. If Scathing mage procs off dot crits then it should be a given perhaps even more so than overwhelming surge which can only proc on ability cast. Overwhelming surge says it only activates on CLASS abilities, which means it will only be whip that can proc it regularly as our two dots are not spammed.
Given the mechanics of the set I think scathing mage would be better, but I'm not positive because I don't have either set. So which is better and why?

Had gear drops been reasonable, if ZoS did not apply the nerfhammer to old gear to make its customers grind for the new gear, if it was clear that DoTs were intentionally left out of the Scathing Mage procs, then this might be an interesting topic to theorycraft.Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only."
