Wouldn't Barbershop, etc. be easy to implement?

It seems to me that Character appearance changes would be extremely easy to implement. They have the code, I am sure there's a dev code to call up the char creation screen. They'd just stick an NPC in each Outlaw Refuge who will give you a makeover for Gold. Then throw it in the Crown Store as well.
The only thing I can think of is that:
  1. It has something to do with long-term profit planning - they hold back what they will put in the Crown Store
  2. They want to tie it to the Thieves or Assassins Guild or something
  3. They somehow coded Character creation in such a way that it is difficult to break out the appearance tab from CLass, Race, etc.

If it is so easy, tell us how it's done and implemented?

There is nothing "easy" about coding a video game. The steps are as follows:

    1. Plan ahead to know what you intend to do.
    2. Write the code to implement the planned feature.
    3. Test the code to make sure it works properly.
    4. Debug the coding so it works even better.
    5. Release the coding into the game itself.
    6. Receive bug reports and fix them because there is no such thing as a released code that will not produce bugs in the game.

Did I leave anything out? Bottom line is it takes a good while to do this and therefore is not so easy.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a very low priority for them. This should be in the game at launch, let alone over a year and some later.

Why you ask? It doesn't benefit them.

In game gold doesn't generate profit.

They certainly could go the Neverwinter way, and charge X dollars for character changes.
(If they do this, I will be leaving this game all together...like I did with Neverwinter).

I'm always astonished by the amount of people who thinks these kinds of things are easy. By no means am I an expert in coding or videogame development, but more people should understand that even the littlest of changes could potentially screw up another portion of the game.

We all know how frequently that happens with ESO.

All in all, don't assume these things are easy.

trust me, its a high priority for them.

its a huge, huge money maker they have.

someone from zenimax wrote that its complicated to get implemented. Well I'm sure it is complicated. Everyone assumed that meant the coding to get it into the game. I think she meant its complicated to drop it at the right time to maximize profits.

That is the only reason we don't have it right now or 2 months ago.

I am aware it's not easy ( I work in IT), but just relatively easy compared to many other changes (CP, justice system, etc.).

I just figured that they had most of the basic code already. As mentioned above, offering it outside the Crown Store is not a priority, as it won't make them any $$.

Remember when just after they released psijic ambrosia on PC you'd crash if you hovered over a recipe or provisioner pack with your mouse? Coding can't just be copy/pasted that easily.

It would be easy if the people that created the game still worked for ZoS...

I'm sure they're overcomplicating it. Most people just want to be able to pay gold to reload the character creation screen. It should just be a 100k gold sink that overwrites everything, resets all your points, and lets you take your character in a new direction without much additional programming. Just a limit that you can only do this, like, three times per quarter.

Instead, they'll leave out the features everyone wants and add some features that nobody ever asked for, while breaking something else in the process. And all the new hair styles will be terrible.

Keep it simple. Work with that you already have, brahs.

The very best we can hope for at this point in the matter for paying for character changes is that they might allow "everyday" changes like hairstyle or makeup for gold, and keep only the "structural" changes like voice or body shape crown-fuelled. And then they can still make profit from those "everyday" changes by selling more and "special" options for those in the crown store...

And as has been mentioned, things are never easy when dealing with many megabytes worth of coding. Especially since they were busy working on other stuff, like the console release, and then IC, and now finishing Orsinium...

But sooner or later, it will come, too much of a profit option not to. I just wish it was sooner rather then later... much like most who post in these threads (duh).

Coding is like one fifth of the job we're talking about.
There is an entire cycle this sort of thing goes through if you want it to be worth a crap.
