Just Noticed Postage Costs

My wife and I are n00bs to ESO, having just bought the game a little over a month ago. We each have a main character and an alt. We often send each other duplicate recipes and motifs via mail. Neither of us ever noticed the 10g postage cost to send mail.

My wife is online right now playing her alt. Her alt just deposited all her gold into the bank for her main. She then tried to send me mail only to get a message about insufficient gold to send mail. She exclaimed "Postage? Since when is there postage?" I did a quick search and discovered that yes, we've been paying postage for every message. We just never noticed it before because who notices 10g?

I guess you learn something new every day. I just thought it was funny. Now she's stealing items to fence for more gold. :smile:

    Note, COD can get expensive on expensive items, so trade those face to face. Also, be careful with COD as it is all too easy to send gold instead of making it COD. Be sure to add in the COD fees to a price if your selling that way. Unless you want to eat the COD fees. I don't remember if mail costs go up on just sending expensive items.

    Wayshrines are another one that can get your in the wallet. If you port to wayshrine and then soon try to port to another one (without being at the wayshrine) then it can cost a ton. Wayshrine to wayshrine is always standard. However, if your in a Guild, you can port to guildmates for free by finding the them in the roster and choosing Travel to Player. Same with Groups and Friends. This can also get you to a zone you have not been in, as long as it is the alliance you are in, or the Silver or Gold alliance you are playing in.

    So, you could travel to your wife, do a face to face, then travel to a guildmate or friend to get back and have no transaction or travel costs.

    Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Wait till the IRS would detect you're not paying taxes!

    Could cost you millions of gold and jail time. :)

    Postage is ~5% of the gold value or something like that. Sending things collect has a cost.

    The min cost is 10 gold even if you send 1 White Meat :o

    Yeah, I remember when I was on Bleakrock, I didn't realize that wayshrine to wayshrine is free. I paid the first time I traveled to a wayshrine, when as a brand new character I could ill afford it.

    The mail costs go up, but based on the in-game (NPC vendor) value.

    @Smitch_59 snap,

    I was oblivious because my friend kept using me as a bank sending me items when in the middle of the Tamrial wilderness for me just to click "return to sender" instead of hiking to a vendor in town.

    Eventually we started working together to optimise craft leveling, I gave him metal he gave me material. Then one day i noticed this cost and was like "wait what...." never sent him anything less than 6 items/stacks after that :P cheapskate adventurer

    on a side note my friend stopped playing :( but I found that if you send something and the player doesn't take the items or return to sender the mail times out after 30 days and you get the items back with the gold postage fee. Yay. free bag/bank space, like ESO cloud storage, but with 30 day turn around
