I have no idea how this works nor know where to find it easily. Is this trait any good against fire? It sounds like it would be but it's a little expensive to craft and test. I'd rather have someone tell me :)

Also, has the latest patch changed anything with it? Thanks a bunch!

Fire Damage is normally linked to Spell Damage and Nirnhoned increases the Spell Resistance count of that piece of Armor so in a way yes it does help reduce Fire Damage.

Which is what I thought but is it a significant amount?

As I have not gotten into Nirnhoned myself yet I cannot say for certain what the amount is when the armor is improved beyond base quality but if I am not mistaken base quality boosts the Spell Resistance of the armor piece by 10%. If I am mistaken then it could be Legendary quality that makes it 10%. Either way the significance of it depends on your own perspective.

I don't know how much damage 10% stops so that doesn't really mean a lot to me

I've heard using reinforced actually yields more spell resistance than nirnhoned does now...

Before it it was nerfed nirnhoned was better.

Might be different based on the armor type though.

Hmmm, well this isn't quite as helpful as I was hoping for though thanks for the responses. It sounds like I need to figure out how the spell resistance mechanics work

i have just made my v16 chest piece with nirnhoned in it but, i am not a vampire. so for me its not strongly noticable and i dont have a way of seeing the damage reduction i am receiving now with this new nirnhoned chest.
i wish i could help alot more but i simply dont have the tools.

do i see an increase in protection from spells -- No
do i see an increase in protection from fire?
    No, not really

    @GoodFella146
from the top of my head, eating my breakfast porridge :-)
the reinforced trait on armor gives you (gold) 16% increased physical & 16% increased spell resistance on that piece of armor.
the nirnhoned trait on armor gives you (gold) 24% increased spell resistance on that piece of armor.

the defending trait on a weapon (gold) gives you 6% (one handed) or 12% (two handed) more physical resistance and spell resistance on the total of your armor value.
the nirnhoned trait on a weapon (gold) gives you, besides the extra spell penetration, 9% (one handed) or 18% (two handed) more spell resistance on the total value of your armor value

in PVE is substantial more Spell damage than Physical damage.
Fire Damage, like all elemental damage (Frost, Shock) is resisted by Spell resistance
In PVP there is also more Spell damage, but that is fluctuating because of popularity of Stamina builds.

Before the latest patch the nirnhoned armor trait gave 24% on the total armor value (not that singular piece). This was a glitch and has been corrected to only applying to that piece of armor, as outlined above.

    Hope this helps :)

Unfortunately he seeks specific counts that he can only manage to find by somehow picking the game apart and seeing for himself. Sadly this is not possible at all on Consoles and can only be done by using add-ons on PC.

Hmm, almost makes it not worth buying or farming nirncrux for armor. 16% increase in armor and spell resist seems a better deal to me than only 24% spell resist.

if you really want to see an increase in spell resistance, it wont be in your armor. it will be noticeable in high amounts of champion points pumped into spell resistance. probably 350 points in spell resist would be very noticeable.

It depends really. If you have overall less counters for spells than physical strikes then Nirnhoned would likely benefit you more.

My problem is that it feels like sometimes you'll go up against a boss that drops 20k in elemental damage which is really annoying to play against. So pretty much I'm wondering if I made like 2 or 3 pieces of armor with nirnhoned, would maybe it hit me for 15k or something? Probably not, but some kind of numbers would be nice.

Again, thanks for all the replies so far

Safe to say it wouldn't have that big an impact lol but far as I'm concerned every little bit helps. If Spell Resistance is what you need more than anything then go for it. Better to knock off some damage than none at all after all.

Afaik, spell hard resistance cap is at 32500 (50%) for v16 characters. Given the formula is linear, that would be 650 for 1%.

So, if you, for example, take an yellow 3.000 nirnhoned armor piece, you would get 3720 spell resistence (3000 * 1.24). That would be a bonus of 720 or 1.10% in resistances by the nirnhoned trait (not counting any racial passive/CP bonus).
