Prompt on special items that are destroyed on use

Yeah, so I was dungeon delving with my grinder when I dropped the final motif my crafter needed: The Redguards. Bazinga! Unfortunately I accidentally tapped 'e' and used it, thereby destroying the book in the blink of an eye. Could we get an option in the settings to toggle on "Warning prompts" when activating looted special items that can be destroyed on use? It's not the first time it has happened (hence the post), and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Thanks.

I'd rather have that than the notification for selling blue contraband. I mean, seriously?! What else am I going to do with it?

...suuure, give a warning prompt for all "consumed on use" stuff...
    What?
I just died because there was a warning prompt when I tried to drink that potion to save myself in a tough fight?
And I have to deal with a warning prompt whenever I want to eat a sweetroll??
And what's with this warning prompt when opening my crafting writ reward pack...

Not that good an idea from where I am looking...

As for redguard crafting motiv, its not that rare... just play more criminal characters, and you'll stumble over more of those eventually.
I must have found most motive at least half a dozend times by now...
Though personally I always find it a bit sad the crafting motivs don't have a higher drop change in their respective races "homelands"... then you could just concentrate on the desert to find that one you miss, or someone who was missing argonian could concentrate on the swamp, or someone missing khajiit on reapers march, etc.

    1. I said it would need to be toggled on in the options, meaning it would be OFF by default. You would notice no difference at all
    2. Sweetrolls are not "special"
    3. I dropped The Redguard motif once in my whole time playing. I'd say that's pretty rare
    4. Please fully read threads before you bother commenting so you don't come across as an idiot

How about a compromise? Prompt on blue or rarer items, toggled in the settings. No warning for literally consumable consumables: food, drink, potions.

Yep, would be perfect. The Redguards motif was blue anyway, so that's exactly what I'm after: blue or higher.

Please, no prompts. Prompts are evil.

Most of the time you'll answer 'yes'. And if you don't, you still answer 'yes' because you're used to.

An UI is like a tool, like a refrigerator.

Now imagine, you want a fresh new beer (I always want a fresh new beer) and you open the door...

    ...suddenly prompt-man appears:

"Are you sure you want a fresh new beer?"

Yes, I am sure and if I am not, I'll close the door.

After some time you'll start to hate prompt-man.

So the solution for your problem is not a prompt but an undo function.

I'd be a handy option to toggle while you're in dungeons, then I'd probably switch it off after visiting the bank and depositing the stuff as a safety net. I think I was drinking a potion or something and accidentally went too far and opened the motif.. so this would prevent things like that from happening, unless you confirm it

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense seems you can't unsee a book or undrink a potion. Do not forget that this is a setting toggled OFF by default. So you won't notice any difference should it be implemented unless you really wanted it.

I "vote" YES for a toggleable prompt. Motifs and recipes I think are the only consumables that need a prompt. Unfortunately, fish not anymore since we can't bank them anymore..

Can you undrink a beer IRL? Or unread a book? No, you can't.

However, games don't have to be like IRL. So yes, it is possible to undrink a potion or unread a book in a game.

If they work it out consistently it would fit perfectly in the cognitive mental model a player is creating about the UI.

Prompts or nag screens are always bad. Always.

    Learn from the master:

Usability Heuristic#3: User control and freedom

Users often choose system functions by mistake and will need a clearly marked "emergency exit" to leave the unwanted state without having to go through an extended dialogue. Support undo and redo.

Maybe for specific items, not just special items. I'm thinking motif books (not pages), bag space upgrades, Crown Lessons, respect scrolls, and Pledge of Mara.

I came here by way of http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/219675/dont-use-the-50-glass-book-on-a-wrong-toon/p1

    1. - I am annoyed enough by the "sell blue burglary loot" to consider the option unneeded.
    2. - Neither are redguard motiv books. Not in my opinion anyways.
    3. - I have it learned on all my eight characters, and found another in the time between my first post and this one. You were saying?
    4. - Please refrain from personal attacks so you don't come across as some jerk.
    5. - ...guess what...

There is a very easy thing that can help avoid the vexation that spawned that OP. It is called: "paying attention before you click"
Now, if this was about some crownstore skill book... eh... (though I think for THAT price, they should have been done as unlock that allows you to draw as many character-bound copies on your account as you'd like - pay once, learn the motiv on all your characters...)
But from where I am looking, whining about a redguard motiv is like whining about who ate the last kwama omlette... sure, annoying, but not really much of an issue.

Take 300g to the nearest guild trader.

Don't clutter my ui with more warning prompts

Please, no warning screens. I prefer the option I recommended by allowing us to lock items we don't want deconstructed.
Having to constantly wade through weapons and armor to see what's safe for deconstructing is frustrating.
I've also lost things I didn't intend to deconstruct.

The other option would be to move Destroy/Deconstruct as the bottom of the menu listing. I find it odd they're too close to the more used options.
