Maintenance for the week of April 6:

Is it a characteristic of MMO's that you MUST farm and grind?

    I will never ever complain about grinding in this game after grinding and farming Vermivorous the Invincible in Borderlands 2. Never mind the gear, it's a ball-ache just farming to get him to appear. You've then got the ESO-esque helm drop rates for him to drop his uniques. Then there is Tiny Tina's Cobra with a decent prefix. Obtaining one isn't difficult, obtaining a legit one is next to impossible.

Any game like for instance ff8, you could play for 50 hours and get near the end, then come back a year later and pick up where you left off. Regular games are more of a pick up here and there for a few hours a day.

    Now mmo's are constantly evolving, and most of your work is to get.to top tier and be the best you can, which requires normally at least an hour or so a day?
    Leave an MMO for a year and come back? Expect to find new level caps, that you require new gear, and to be below those that have stayed with it.

    It's the nature of the beast. I love it.

    Its been like what 3 month for ps4 and x1 and we get a dlc?!?
    1.5 month later aftet game came they let you buy exp pot why because of CP. ESOwant down for me quick.

    ff14 say they willnt add things to get cash shop to make you better then other.
    Eso said they only add things to make you look different and wouldn't go P2W
    Well look like eso just wants money dont care how they do it.

    let othet way ff14 beat eso.

    i got so many item in eso i dontknow what to do with them being i quit maybe i just remove eso from ps4 and forget about them.

    But eso is well over a year old? I'm sorry but just because it only recently had console release is irrelevant, it was merely a port, not a new game. When buying the game on console you have to accept you are buying a game that has been out for a year already.

    Kind of like how ps and xbox have exclusive titles for 6months-1 year. It's not different.

    So we had dlc after a year and a half then, not 3 months.

    They didn't put xp pots up for CP grinders, because CP grinders would have been high enough level/experienced enough to know people sell tons of xp pots for basically nothing, hell 2 of my 4 guilds give out 20 a week to each member if you contribute 2k gold or more a week towards the trader.

    Stuff like xp scrolls in the store is catered to casual players that have disposable income and would like a quick boost to catch up to higher levels.

    I agree i have to play with the update from a year but exp pot should been on the pc for a year b4 coming to the ps4. eso not like ff where ps4 player play with pc so we have to get whatever the pc get items get and get them the sametime.

    eso can give pc a update or item and not the ps4 and wait sometime

    ff cant give pc a update or items without ps4 because they are link.

    they can give the pc the exp and dlc and wait more months to give to ps4 and x1

    You said you waited a year for dlc on pc so why did eso give ps4 3 month later because they want fast money.

    When did I say they this. I saying the game is link to whatever you get it for ps4 x1 and pc.

    when he said the game been out for a year yes for the pc not x1 or ps4 so why they rushing dlc and item where pc had to wait for them.
    pc cant play with ps4 so why when pc get something we get it a month later when pc waited sometime to get it like a year.

    What the best reason for eso to give out exp and dlc to x1 and ps4 like 2 or 3 month after it came out?
    yes its been out for the pc for a year but pc are not link to ps4 or x1.
    being the pc eso been out for a year it would wait longer b4 we get item or dlc on the ps4 x1

    To me farming is just the mandatory step for me to get the set I require. My endgame is mastering tanking with my item sets, build and champion points spent the right way. I'm also patient so I don't feel I need to have it all right away, some days I grind a lot, other days I just do a daily.
    Just play the way you think is fun, thats the important thing. :smile:

    Okay. Thought I'd ask. I wish I had the patience. :(

    There are new MMO's coming in +2 years that will try to do things differently. Mainly, the one's not taking huge creative risks (big companies like EA, ZOS and so on) try to keep it safe and regurgitate old game mechanics. I personally think that if you truly want to play a fun game you need to check out indie companies. They will make games for the FANS, and not for the publishers.

    Just because x1 and ps4 and pc playing the same mmo together wouldnt make it lag different then if you have alot of pc player in the same place doing something without x1 and ps4 player.

    in ff14 I saw about 80 to 100 player kill on S rank and no lag on my ps4.

    I dont think I ever lag in ps4 when a ton of ppl was around me in ff.

    MMO literally stands for Farming and Grinding... let me break it down for you;

    M = Farming
    M = Grinding
    O = Online

    MMO = Farming and Grinding Online ;)

    Macro Multitaskers Online

    On a more serious note, these games don't require grinding at all. They were based on RPGs that were intended to take years to progress through. It was intended to be a gradual thing where you log in for a few hours per day or week and EVENTUALLY get to the end, though with enough content updates no player ever would. Instead, people turned these games into their second job and no-lifed the crap out of them. Now people feel the need to grind just to keep up with the no-lifers. Even in a cooperate PVE setting, people feel the need to grind to keep up with newly released raid content.

    Grinding is a myth, an invention of the minds of competitive players who want to be on the level of literally 2% of the server, the no-lifers who have scored their perfect gear arrangement. So few people proportionally ever achieve their gear sets and it becomes an eternal resetting ladder where maintaining the top positions require constant effort. If you're okay with not being in the top 2% of the server, you can get gear extremely easily and cheap because V14 stuff is out of date and V15 stuff not good enough to a powergamer.

    But is it still a myth even though it was made reality?

    I'm not much of one for farming and grinding (I find it boring), but, from reading over this forum, I am getting the idea that true success is not attainable in ESO without grinding and farming for specific quantities of mats and equipment.

    Am I wrong?

    Any suggestions as to how you can farm without getting bored? Grinding I understand - it may be boring, but, at least it's just the same quest/delve/action over and over again.

    Farming and grinding are kind of one and the other in some sense or another, there are locations where you can grind out levels as well as pick up a good amount of scraps and such to break down for purples and yellows. Ok it might not be the exact materials that you are looking for but you can still then on sell or trade them for what you are after.

    I don't do crafting which means that when it comes to mats I need for upgrading news sets or what not I need to find a way of getting them, so I grind scraps which break down in to wax that I trade for the mats I need, of course it helps when you have good guildes that are happy to trade with.

    I would also recommend (if this is your first VR character) that you stop and smell the roses, this game is beautiful and there are some really cool achievements that you can aim for that cut through the intensity of the grind, for example you could make it your mission today to find all the Undaunted guys int he various bars and buy them a drink for that achievement, or you might find that you just want to smash out some dolmens and hope for the generals to drop.

    Even just questing will get you pretty far into VR and there are some side quests that are better then the main story!

    Travel safe.

    The MMO experience is one of a dynamic, living, breathing world, and something like that requires a thriving community. But to have a thriving community, there must always be a reason for people to stick with the game and keep playing. There must be mechanics that promote longevity.

    Different games approach this in different ways, depending on their base mechanics. A game with really engaging basic mechanics can survive longer with less content. Think Mario Kart or the FPS genre. But games that lack in engagement require a lot more Skinner Box techniques.

    Personally I find ESO's basic combat and gameplay incredibly fun and engaging. The problem though is that I play Elder Scrolls games for the dynamic world, and ESO's world isn't quite as dynamic as other TES games. Skinner Box though it may be, extra loot at least gives me some motivation to keep experiencing what world there is with friends. That community experience is what's important, even if it's hard to focus on at times.

    Yes it is always been the nature of this genre, a virtually endless game. Usually ppl that like this genre but don't like grind, tend to try many kind of mmos , without ever having finished theoretically one of them, looking for something different.These kind of people are usually casual players and they are called MMO Jumpers.
