Eso on linux??? YES

Hi all i'm actualy building a new mid range rig for work on it it will be pretty brilliant with a i5 4400 8 gig of ram a gtx 750 ti all in a smaller mini itx motherboard and 1 main 250 gb ssd...but i usualy work with linux because the programs i use are on it...
i wanted to build a pretty powerful rig even if i use linux... because i actually want to try steam potential on it and the build in gamestream (to stream eso

)... but i've com up while searching on the net that some people actualy where using the beta of eso on linux via wine...?and it was working quite fine..... i've seen a 20 min gameplay whitout crash or general problems.
is it still possible now that the game is " officialy " out of beta?

Not sure...might give it a shot and post here. If they would just release a real Linux client I would buy the game again. The problems with Windows memory management are not adding any to the overall stability of the game...

I'd like to back you up and present my interest in having a Linux version for ESO.
I love this game and with windows pushing it's crap on us, ESO and a couple more programs are the only things preventing me from moving to Linux straight away.

It would be really awesome if ESO would work smoothly for Linux.

I was able to run it on my older Linux box without serious issues back around launch.

It definitely runs and was not particularly unstable. Had some issues with water...but that's to be expected.

I've been meaning to try it again sometime, but haven't had the chance.

I've been thinking about switching to Linux, but I don't know much about it at the moment, and I'd hate to not have my games anymore. I'll be watching this thread for more info, though!

Windows version (via Wine) runs on Linux just fine. I mean, the game is horrible, buggy mess and is not getting any better over time, you definitely will experience various glitches ranging from outright crashes to stuck in combat, but you will experience all of these on Windows too, so there is no reason not to switch.

It is not a big leap from Mac to Linux client, so not making Linux version of game that already has Mac version (not to speak of PS4 version) is plain corporate BS. However, I notice spike in commercial titles released on Linux, namely those based on Unity engine, so at least some companies do get it.

If you have a good box, you can run a windows VM under linux and play ESO that way.
VM performance is actually quite good compared to the real thing.

If you do a VM, i suggest using Win7 instead of 8 or 10 ...

I actually play ESO under linux for about 1 year now.

It is now possible to play a large variety of game under linux with wine, but keep in mind you may experience some glitches here and there. For example, in ESO, once you activate the OPENGL mode, you may see some artifact in the menu (before you actually load on any character) but once you entered the world you wont see any differences. I play with the same graphic quality (MAX) and have same performance and everything works (update, pvp, etc...).

For the few first months, I had a little random crash, I had it under windows as well but a bit less. I took a break of 3 months and now back to the game with a new fresh install and wine-staging 1.9 and now so far the game didn't crash at all.

It's pretty nice to have it working like that, but as they made a client for Mac, which is a Unix system usint pretty much the same set of libraries of Linux, they are already very close to be able to make a native linux client which would be really awesome IMHO.

I bought this game because they really focus on the game quality and I respect that, compared to other companie, i'm not mEntioning Any here. But, usually, I consider a game that doesn't support linux in any way shouldn't be considered at all, i.e. the devs never support the linux community by doing some test with wine and giving informations to the community to get it working.

But thanks god, the wine community is amazing and you can play a lot of game with "almost" same performances.

I also played on Linux for about ~13 months. Basically, the game is buggy mess. On the flip side, so is it on Windows.
Stay away from Steam, at best it will not help with anything, at worst it will needlessly complicate your task of making non-native game run. At cost of DRM, mass surveillance and Valve having stranglehold on you.

WOW this is old stuff...

Currently i've changed way to play on my linux system and i just use the steam feature for "home" streaming and it works quite good without more latency added!
