Why did we not get character creation like this?

Damn, that character creation is amazing. It really puts ESOs and even FFXIVs to shame and gives a new perspective. I honestly wish there would be an MMO that could be successful in all fields; creation, battle system, quests, group and solo play etc.

Too many great ideas and developments are held back due to money issues. Money is the problem or the problem is the want for profit. If some people didn't want money for the sake of just having more, then we could really get things done properly. Too many people live for just money and don't really do much with it. Money is the illusion of wealth.

More games and projects outside of gaming could benefit incredibly if people dropped this way of thinking that money makes them feel safe or comfortable. Instead of looking to profit, you would have people looking to make the best of what they are currently working on. It would be a major change in the way we lived if this happened lol.

Look what your silly character creation made me write!

Reality can't be wished away. Making a game is a business, whether we like it or not.

Wait.... OP is complaining about something new? Never would have seen that coming... Sarcasm aside, those are both the same link to a post from mid 2014.

The question is what does this actually add to the game. The majority of players rarely see much more than the backside of their characters. As an RPer, no amount of stuff they add to character creation could cover how I see my characters. Why bloat a system with more to load, more to code, and more to see if it will offer just something else for people to complain about?

Your rudeness aside, I've fixed the OP. The first vid. was supposed to be from EVE.

I love the character creation but the only thing I dont understand is why certain features (that were in earlier ES games) are not featured. For example, in Skyrim when you were designing an Orc, you had additional customisation such as how big his teeth were, or he could have one tooth that had snapped off or one with a metal ring around it. Do not understand why certain features like this are in the old ES games but not this. (and the size of someones tooth would not affect lag..for that person thats waiting to go "i would rather not add anything that will lag my game thank you!!1!111).

Or why can you not have an eye patch if you want a bloody beard? Why would that even be under the same bloody option???

There are always tradeoffs. If they budget more for CC, then something else gets less. For me personally how they did CC is good enough. I am all for being able to change characters after creation (barbershop), but I don't need any new options. So it's the same kind of question that keeps popping up in many topics. How many people want ZOS to spend more on CC options, vs how many people want ZOS to spend more on something else? How does ZOS measure demand for different features? Forum posts? Track/datamine actual gameplay? Ouija board? WAG?

While that is awesome I honestly think it's a bit too much for how little people spend admiring their characters or other peoples.

EVE Online added very in depth character creation option but people still ended up looking mostly the same due to limitations on hair/facial hair choices. Also the good looking options will always be popular making more people draw to them.

All ZOS needs to do is add another 100 hair options, 50 facial hair options and 50 marking options with their character re-sculpting and we should see a pretty varied array of people

You know, I'd actually be okay with that. Indeed, I'd be pretty darned excited about it because then I could hope that at least 10 of those options wouldn't suck. Seriously, there are like TWO hairstyles for females I actually LIKE, maybe three for males. We don't just need more, we need BETTER.

Hopefully, character customization will become more detailed with the release of a future "barbershop" - be it an in-game shop or through Crown Store.

Some of the things that really annoy me are:
    - Male characters can have beard or adornment, but not both.
    - Female characters (and male characters) can have make-up, warpaint, or facial features (like freckles) - but not a combination.
    - All characters can have bodypaint or features (like freckles) but not both.

It would be better to have each feature separately - that way characters will also become more unique.

I'd be thrilled if they'd address those things and fix them.

Yeah that was heartbreaking and is the OTHER reason I no longer play EVE. However, the main reason is the way CCP scrapped World of Darkness. NO FORGIVENESS EVER.

At the least I would like to be able to change the things that real people can easily change, like hair, facial hair, makeup, and face/body paint. Adding scars also makes sense as our characters do a lot of fighting.

More detailed control of options would be cool....but only if they actually looked like that in game and you could actually see your character close up enough to be able to tell. It seems like a lot of the current details you can set in character creation aren't even very apparent in game, so adding more that we'll never see again after clicking "play" seems a bit pointless.

I can't speak for Black Desert, but I CAN say that for Eve, it only ever renders ONE character - yours. And that's only every now and again when docked - most of the time you're looking at ships.

When it comes to seeing other pilots, you are looking at IMAGE captures, which have a significantly smaller data footprint. It is not even slightly feasible for a game to have such detailed models if they want to have as many on-screen as ESO does.

We already have to have silhouettes running around because the current models take a while to load in due to their complexity (coupled with MY IMMERSION! threads). Do you really think any system can handle a hundred Eve-quality characters being rendered?

Simple answer - IT'S NOT KOREAN GAME
All mmo from Asia have very detailed creation process and very detailed appearances
including all additional stuff in game already that makes your character looks ...awesome? (for some)
You can compare all you want to every other mmo in the world but in the end how fun would it be
if every single one was built on same base ...with just different story.

Hell ...since when gamers got so picky and never happy :astonished:
Game can run smooth, improve quality, gameplay, content etc ...but still doesn't have X or Y from some other game
    ...seriously...

Maybe because the game does not run smooth (stutter, fps drops) and never did (freezes) ?

    Just an idea.

Right there with you. I'll be checking it out but I highly doubt I'll switch over. It's just frustrating because games like that let me know what COULD HAVE been done here and yet every time I go to make a new character and am confronted with the same AWFUL hairstyles and ridiculously limited "makeup" I just want to smash someone else's face onto my keyboard.

Fair point. Perhaps I am just impatient for technology to advance to the point where I can finally get the game I want. Though Black Desert LOOKS absolutely amazing. But I'm not thrilled by all the ridiculous effects during combat. I much prefer more realistic combat (though no MMO REALLY has that) that looks grittier than what I'm seeing in Black Desert.

With the millions that were spent developing this game I still don't understand why we got such skimpy character creation. I love the art style and we can make truly lovely characters. But the limits imposed just make no sense to me when I see what clearly CAN be done in MMOs now.

    1. EvE is not Freemium and thus the money is spend to enhence the game itself and not to generate further revenue
    2. those charackters are never rendered outside of solo instances thus the character engine can be much more detailed
