Dear Diary: My PVP Experience so far

I've been a converted PVPer for probably about a month now, and for the most part I love it. I spend a lot of my time in Blackwater on Dragonknight and Nightblade (both stamina). I just wanted to share my experience so far, scope out if people share the same feelings and maybe coerce others into it.
When I first started I died. A lot. Like, so much. Coming from a PVE background you generally skill for straight out DPS, but in Cyrodiil you need to think more defensively, and also about debuffs. Think of enemy players as you would mini bosses. Once I worked this out and swapped my builds around, survival was 10x better. I've finally started getting the hang of the new resource management due to the block nerf and increased dodge rolling/break frees, so that's good too.

There's nothing more invigorating than running from keep to keep (or resource) with your team, smashing down the enemies. ESOs combat system is one of the best I've played, so this just fully enhances your experience in Cyrodiil. It's much more exciting than rounding up mobs.. trust me. PVP feels like it has turned me into a better player as well. I understand the mechanics far better than I used to.

There are a few negatives I've noticed in Blackwater. I'm not sure if they affect the vet campaigns or not.

1. People rely on siege to kill opponents. Like, I'm talking solely rely on a ballista. Today, before writing this post, the ground was fully covered in red circles. We couldn't dodge roll any where. Not only were we outnumbered, but we were greatly outsieged. I prefer proper battles and leaving the heavy artillery for the walls. this was not a lot of fun, and seems to be a regular occurrence lately.
2. When I'm online, DC is always seriously outnumbered. The pattern seems to be AD dominating, EP hiding somewhere, and DC attacking AD with no hope of success, but we do it anyway. Today a small number of EP came out of the shadows and started attacking us (DC) while we were under heavy siege fire from AD.
3. I didn't want to bring it up, but it has to be said. CPs do make a difference, if only a little. I don't find it a problem because I have over 150 of them, but I've seen frustrated newer players unable to kill 1 person because they have 100 points into Bastion. That with the damage reduction and well, I can see why people resort to sieges.

I often wondered if Craglorn would have made the perfect PVP ground, without the use of sieges. No keeps, no hidey holes, no daedra around every single corner, no giant balls of flame being heaved at you. Just PVP the good old fashioned way, but ESO style. I could be wrong, but this place just seems perfect.

Anyway, I'll continue PVPing in BWB despite its annoyances, because it can still be a lot of fun. But if we could cut back on the siege wars so I don't respawn like this every time

that'd be just great.

If you're just thinking about trying out PVP, do it. But don't quit after one fight like I've seen a few people do already. It takes practice and different way of thinking, but it's extremely beneficial (rewards, alliance skills, great experience) and just makes you feel like you're apart of something bigger instead of finding lost forks, slaying mudcrabs and talking to ghosts.

Most importantly, have fun and I'll see you in there!

P.S. I hate siege

My fun experience with siege was the other day when I was trying to keep up with a guild of mostly maxed folks (I have nobody higher than vet 3, and none of my horses are maxed).

We were blasting away at the inner door of a keep, and the leader called out (teamspeak) for everyone to fire a last couple and put their siege away. Well apparently mostly folks reacted to the last half of the sentence and the sieges were folded up and folks charged to the door.

Which was still not quite down.

I was waiting for one last "green light" to lightning ballista the door when the leader called out slightly amused and dismayed that people had put stuff away so fast. Then my shot went off and the door exploded and went down.

I'm not so experienced or active in the guild and I doubt no one noticed or knew that "a newbie" had shot the door open - but still it was a pretty nifty moment in my head.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

lol lucky there was someone there to finish the job xD
On a serious note, getting that door down as fast as possible could mean the difference between capping and not capping that keep. Wasted time generally gets you killed if you're not careful, so it was a good thing you still had your ballista up!

I will say that I'm surprised they have champion points carry over to alts. This creates a huge imbalance in non vet pvp, its non vet versus vet perks... by definition a non vet campaign should have no vet benefits involved.

The seige weapons, well that's kinda the point of having seige weapons. In history men have found themselves right in your position with no hopes of survival.

I don't understand this complete devotion to a specifc campaign. If AD is way out numbering you, go to campaign that's evenly matched. I personally love the pvp experience but i really don't care about the rating.

Lastly im really glad you enjoyed it! Come get to vet and we'll face off, itself be a blast! :)
