Has IC ruined Cyrodill?

Lordklinger
I want to start out by saying that I really enjoy the IC DLC. Although it lacks pvp objectives, I think it is a fun mix of pvp and pve. My biggest issue with IC is the shared population, which has led to Cyrodill being nothing more than a gateway to IC. Part of the issue is the queue times. When people are waiting an hour or more to get into Cyrodill, they are less inclined to stay and help in Cyrodill. Not to mention, what happens to the pvp players who didn't purchase the dlc? Now they are forced to wait in ridiculous queues just to arrive in a pvp map that is empty. While the queue times are absurd, there is an even greater issue. Once the shine wears off, we are still stuck with two areas that are sharing a single population. Which means, at best, Cyrodill will forever be at half population. So now we have two areas that will never be fully populated. It's an interesting concept, but I don't believe it's viable. Thoughts?

I think people will PVP again, like it used to be, and some others will be in IC. It will just be a more occupied campaign(s). I think a lot of people are grinding achievements, vault keys to complete new gear and just enjoying what IC has to offer.

I kinda hope they make a campaign where you can't access IC at all. I miss overland Cyro so much, IC is extremely repetitive and I'm honestly over it already.

That is where the problem is. It will never balance out. Even once the shine wears off, you will still have two areas sharing population. Both areas will be harmed by this. Even if the campaign reads full, that population will be split between two areas. I understand that Cyrodill will not remain empty forever, but I don't believe it will hold the numbers it once did.

I believe that's actually the point.
I have fought up topside since IC and found it a considerably better experience than it was before.
    Using skills that work! Yay!

As far as sharing the population, they've raised the numbers once and that is easily done again if needed.

    Other things IC has ruined:
    • Trials
    • Dragonstar Arena
    • Endgame jewelry that isn't willpower/endurance/agility
    • Build diversity
    • Theorycrafting.

I wouldn't mind the imperial city as much if I didn't feel that it was designed to FORCE me to play it in order to stay competitive.

This is the first true DLC and it sets a horrible precedent.

Is ZOS going to raise level cap and gear grab EVERY time a DLC comes out? Is all the existing endgame content going to be useless and not leveled up like what is happening with trials and DSA?

    How is this not P2W?

its just annoying to get to as well. make a damn wayshrine inside already. just put everything in one room like a studio apartment, let me drop AOE after AOE, drop a chest from the ceiling, i can play with the RNG and get some off the wall designed gear with mis-matched trait. reload my UI, repeat. this is so much fun yay!!!!

I can't even enter my dominant campaign server because everybody wants to get in and play IC without risk.

My reason for entering the campaign is so I can do the Cyrodiil quests and farm CWC, but no, 200+ Queueueueueue.

IC itself is fine. The patch that came along with it, ruined a lot of things. My Magika Sorc, which was at best serviceable in PVE, is now pretty much useless.

Why would anyone go back to playing in Cyrodil when you get no rewards, buffs, or anything outside being able to buy soul gems.

Seriously, do they expect MMO players to play buggy PvP in an empty zone that is over a year old, without any incentives?

They develop for the casual console players, this game is as good as dead for PvPers.

The numbers thing is always going to be there, but it’s more down to player skill and there are ways through ability choice to configure a group to be stronger vs. large groups of people. - BRAIN WHEELER - 2012 - LOL

I hate to break it to you but casual console players hate everything about IC. They don't want to grind long hours and have to risk being ganked. They are casual

Yes. Cyrodil is now very unbalanced because the population says full but the factions are un-balanced. There seems to be loads of people just sat in the EP base not moving or doing anything.

Someone said last night - when you see a full AD population that's a 100% people fighting, when you see full EP population that's 80% of the population AFK in the IC base.

It's set up incredibly stupid either you run in a zerg and get next to nothing or you run solo and get jacked. All I'll do is jack other players until something changes send them here crying for help. When you see me charging your zerg on ps4 EP remember i only need to hit one of you for a few hundred stones and go die to a mob and its better than farming. So laugh and teabag all you want I took your work.

IC becomes boring very very fast. As soon as the majority of pvp'er got their v16 gear out of it they have now returned to Cyrodiil for new battles.

IC is beautiful, the environment is great but there are 2 big problems with it seen from a pvp perspective. There are way too many mobs everywhere interfering with small scale pvp and there are no objectives for large scale pvp apart from mindlessly circling around looking for enemies.

So pvp'er are now leaving the place again because pvp in there very quickly has become a bore. And you can see it on how the battle activity outside in Cyrodiil is intensifying from day to day atm.

I've not logged in since Thursday. No interest on grinding mobs after waiting 3 hours in a. Q for PVP . No interest waiting 3 hours in a q for anything nvm a game . I'll maybe see how it is later today . Don't even care about the new gear I just wanna pvp in cyrodil. The grind is an unwelcome distraction for me . It will go back to normal I'm sure but I'm not hanging around questing while in qs and my guild are all in cyrodil . Only way I'd have been able to enjoy this update would've been if I'd had no job and could play off peak

To me, it is ruining mainland Cyrodiil PvP for the first few months (up to until a year maybe). However, I think things will go back to normal eventually as people can't find any more incentives to be in IC hunting for gears and such plus Orsinium will be out too. But that's just what I think. Let's see how time unfolds everything.

oh woow.. 48 people actually think that IC ruined PvP? I wonder how many of those do have the DLC and how many again think that because IC got released normal Cyrodiil is empty or something like that..

I find IC great. It allows fast access to pvp, lots of tight corners which you can use in your groups advantage, no need to siege an enemy out of a keep (thank god!), awesome roaming bosses which you can use against an enemy group (I can not count, how many times i've aggroed a boss to pull him into an enemy and then watch them die from his AOE  )

There are downsides ofc, like for example, we need better requirements for access in IC. But the DLC just got released so ZOS wants to give everyone the opportunity to get in and see it, so I guess its understandable.

Fast access? I wasn't lying or exaggerating when I said 3 hour qs . My q on Thursday took 3 hours . I got in at 11pm I'm up for work at 6am . Previously a long q was 1 hour . I have the dlc and I'm a pvper so I didn't want to spend the 40 mins to an hour gametime I had killing mobs for stones but the campaign was empty had to hunt down some pvp .

I don't think it's permanent obviously it'll settle down. For me the option I've got is play on my one day off . If I'm working then eso isn't an option afterwards ATM . It's clear to me that waiting it out and playing catch up is my best bet. Aggroing npcs into enemy players isn't my idea of pvp . Grieving for lulz maybe but I'd rather fight player versus player no bosses involved. I've no idea why zos thought this would be OK for paying customers . Surely they could've added more campaigns the qs are ridiculous so to answer the OP then yeah it's killed cyrodil for me personally. Regularly top 2% in azura to not playing at all

I'm not into Cyrodil as much but IC is more fun than Cyrodil.

I just wish to skip all of Cyrodil, no idea why we can't port from away shrine into IC as the gates only make sense if Cyrodil keeps are required for access
