The issue is when we ask for things we imagine the perfect solution. Not what we end up getting.
Champion points are a better Idea than Veteran ranks - only problem is in PvP they un balance things. I like most people want a campaign with a limit on them and like most people I want the limit to be the number of points I have and to raise with me
I wanted to be able to see the other alliances (well no I didn't) but when I heard this I thought great carry on the story. On no you get to go back and play through a dream state which means nothing, never happened and is just a waste of time. I would have liked to continue my story in the other zones.
The changes to classes yup we all want a change to make our chosen play style better, I wanted to have pets and use them only problem is pets are worthless so I have had to dump them, I keep hoping for a change to make pets more useful. I want Argonian passives not to suck as much as they do.
List goes on.
What I think they need to do is trial changes faster and see how they work. Planning the change for months and then setting it in stone doesn't work.
I'm certainly not advocating them never listening. Feedback is a natural thing.
What they need to remember is that the customer isn't necessarily always right.
So, you're saying they should selectively listen?
Then I have to ask, because I'm hoping the original post is more than just "you can't please everyone" and "be careful what you ask for" implications, what actionable and practical steps can be taken to make things better???
What should ZoS listen to? Please don't say "good" suggestions.
What should people NOT ask for? Who decides that? You? I hope not. I would hope ZoS decides this.
Everyone that gives feedback wants the game to be "better", unless you think players actually want the game to be worse.
Everyone has ideas of what "better" is.
So who is to determine which "better" idea is better?
Ultimately its ZoS.
So I don't appreciate you telling me, or anyone, not to give feedback. It's not our fault. Don't point the finger at the players, point it at the -real- decision makers.
Ultimately what is "right" depends on ZoS' goals.
If their goal is to make an Elder Scrolls game, they should listen to feedback to furthers that goal.
If their goal is to make a quality game, they should listen to feedback that will eliminate bugs and increase functionality.
If their goal is to make money, they should try to please the largest segment of customers.
If their goal is mixed, they will need to prioritize and make decisions that support multiple goals and try to minimize actions that conflict.
On another note. I haven't watched the livestream, but if they said they listen too much, to me that's like saying, in a round about way, 1) it's your fault (even though they are saying it's theirs, kind of like I'm not saying your ugly, I'm just prettier than you), 2) Once a business starts pointing the fingers at customers, things usually get kind of ugly. "What do you mean you don't like our pizza, you're taste buds must be crap!" see how far that kind of thing goes.
Sure customer isn't always right, but there better ways to approach that than ignoring or finger pointing or being insulting.
