Bank space limit [240]

Can someone explain to me why you can buy bank space only up to 240 slots?
Guild banks have 500 right away. And only thing that is achieved by this limit is using alts as bank space.

In my opinion it wouldn't be too hard to add the option for further bank expansion, at least up to the 500 slots.

Well, the simple answer that the Beta's use is that ZOS decided that they would limit the bank space in order to force players to choose what they wanted to keep or discard. They could then also use it as a Gold Sink. This also had some implications for specialsation of characters in respect to crafting.

TBH I'm amazed anyone .. apart from the early exploiters .. has the gold to throw around expanding the bank beyond about 150.

If you have nothing else to spend your gold on, it's easy to afford it. Playing PvE only and not really caring enough to run the competitive high-end trials, I don't really need to buy anything at all. Having leveled every craft to 50 I can sell all loot instead of deconstructing it, and knowing all racial styles I can sell all rare motif books.

Bank space is my only gold sink at the moment, and even though my storage space problems are less severe since the stack size was increased to 200, I have upgraded the bank quite considerably for pure convenience. Not to 240, not by a long shot, but I'll probably get there some time if the game survives for long enough. I really don't need to spend a lot of gold on anything else.

I guess that's the answer, I can't sell because I refuse to join a guild simply to trade, I hate the way ZOS perverted the idea of guilds into an pitiful excuse for an economy everyone can take part in.

I sell but still have so much stuff like armor sets and mats that I'd gladly pay to expand mine beyond 240 given the chance.

That is your fault then. You have 5 guilds. Use a couple and join trading guilds. You can turn off the chat for them if you don't want anything else to do with guild other then sale items. Everyone can take part, stop being [snip] um stubborn. The way they did trading is actually better for the game economy then a global auction house.

At least they met people a quarter of an inch and we can buy 60 extra inventory/bag spaces via our "Riding" lessons.

But I agree, Bank space should be a little more, but considering most armor you find or make it bound to your character, it's not like you can keep it and use it on another one.
Far too many characters to list any more.

You can use it on another Character. Bound means Bound to the Account. So, any Characters you have can use any bound item any of your characters have. You just can't sell them or give them to another player.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I really like the guild traders, except the bidding process to obtain the kiosks. It is different. Join a trade guild... I PvE and PvP with some of the rich bastages in mine.

But, honestly with 240 slots in your bank, 8 characters with 170 potential slots each (riding skill now 60 available all the time), eliminating 60+ provisioning matts and letting almost everything in crafting stack to 200, including soul gems and lock picks… why do you still have an inventory problem?

You are a pack rat, that's why.

When you are doing all 5 professions on your main character, there is NO WAY you can put even HALF of all possible materials in your bank. You need to constantly log out and log in some "additional bank characters". And its annoing as hell. (not as annoying as the charge bug thou). But at least this one should be easy to solve.

Actually if you played any other MMO game you'd understand how amazing global auction houses really are. Guild stores are an extremely nice thing, but people use them incorrectly. Look at RuneScape, WoW, and so many other titles... Auction houses are competitive marketplaces, guilds though are where things can run if not for free (usually a materials exchange for items) then for reduced costs usually with discounts from 20-60% off. Here those guilds are the only means to make anything happen in terms of a market. It's god awful and I wish we had some way like in Fiesta Online or Ragnarok Online to set up our own personal shops and sell items this way. It'd make things much more vibrant in terms of trading and costs. When I'm looking at rares/magical/blue items that are running upwards of 2k-20k and they're not even VR...There's a massive issue. Especially when the items are lv 40 and below. By our own human history and that of games guilds and their vendors/stores or markets were always open to guild members only and had discounted goods and even exclusive items to it. Here that just doesn't exist, the guilds AREN'T any form of economy but people who are desperate to squeeze out each coin they can even if the markup costs are beyond idiotic.

    This... I feel your pain.

Nonetheless I don't see why it is we can only have 240 slots. It may be "high" to them, but I'm an old ass WoW gold farmer. I easily could spend 5-10 hours a DAY getting materials of all kinds. Hell before WoD I was the person you talked to if you wanted to sell a guild vault to and or buy ghost iron by vault tabs. To be perfectly honest I would much rather have the tabbing systems that Dungeons and Dragons: Neverwinter and World of Warcraft have then actual slots. It was much easier to organize, keep track of, and even just withdrawing and depositing items into. At a minimum I'd like to see 7 tabs with a minimum of 100-250 slots each. The prices for each one can be in crowns or gold at like 250k+ per tab. While normal players can have slots upto 500 or 750.

I think of they made it so crafting materials weren't part of that storage then there wouldn't be any issues at all. Obviously anything you craft from them fills a slot.

Similar to Guild Wars 2 inventory.

I'm in agreement that it is not enjoyable game play to spend a third of my time dealing with inventory issues.
I can appreciate having to invest great quantities of gold to earn more inventory slots. I can appreciate capping inventory so database management doesn't get out of control. BUT 240 slots is inadequate. I think I could work well with 300 slots.

243 total unique crafting materials and likely more on the way plus,
Leveled rings and necklaces for enchanting plus,
Slots to store items with researchable traits while you do other research plus,
The seven part Psijic Ambrosia recipe that you have to store the parts for until you get them all plus,
Any Dwemer motifs that you get before you can max out a crafting skill plus,
All those trophies you earn, but then have to get rid of for lack of inventory space.

This, all day long. If am working all crafting skill lines on one of my characters and there is NO way that I can hold all of the various mats on that character OR in the bank. And that's taking in to account that I'm not storing ANY ingredients for Provisioning. And while, we're at it, why exactly did they limit stacks to a paltry 200? I have thousands of ingots, and clothing mats in the bank that are taking quite a bit of space.

Some quick advice: if you are frustrated and spending too much time managing the bank, consider getting rid of all that hoarded stash.
    1. Only keep the specific level of mats you need. I am lvl 50 on all skills so I sold / dumped all the non VR9 mats. Provisioning is the pain so make an alt and dedicate him as your grocery.
    2. Dont stockpile trait items to research, use your guild to get them on demand
    3. Set prices in guild trader that will move your inventory fast. You need to sell items as fast as you collect them so undercut the market.
    4. Just sell all your stuff to vendors and only sell your premium loot to players. I did this yesterday and went from 160 items to 101 and relaxed over the new inventory space.
    5. You should have 5 guilds. If you dedicate 1/2 of your selling space to your inventory you can get 75 x 30 day spaces by posting items for sale and then cancelling the trade. A lot happens in 30 days and that VR1 blue sword might not be so special to you when you are VR 15 30 days later.

At launch and months after, things only stacked to 20! It was a very exciting day when they went not just to 100, but all the way to 200!

I'm pretty sure that's a rumor started in these forums. There was a thread suggesting that it would be a nice bonus to ESO+ members. I would happily except it if they offer it!
