Do Champion Points Really Help Players Get More Powerful?

Though not quite as much as most people assume...
The main advantages come with the first 300 or so c-points, after that the diminishing returns really start kicking in hard...
And even so, those advantages are no more important or stronger then having good highend gear sets, or food buffs, or a well sized stack of tripots...
And naturally, it won't make you über-powered either. Espedcialy not in PvP. So what if you can kill your opponent in 4.2 blows, and he needs five blows - whoever lands that fifth blow still wins...
But... all things considered, it IS one more and additional source of character powah! Especially some of the 10/30 advantages really raise your game a notch...1 -

But I dont find them (even the unlockable ones) so powerful that it would make a difference.
Actually if I encounter a player who is obviously not a rookie anymore, likely have enough champion points already too.
Once you achieved a decent ammount, you already became more skillful due to practice.
It's a theory of course, having no means to get the exact numbers on console.
Hm, gives me an idea to run a test with and without CPs in a campaign for a set duration of time, minimizing all the possible variables to see what end results I'd get. Heh, too bad I just dont care about this that much to bother myself with it.
This is a popular but short-sighted view of CP. In truth, CP remove diversity as players will eventually have all of the same passives maxed. What was originally choice becomes nothing more than filling in the blanks towards the end. Also, new players are simply screwed until a proper catch-up mechanic is added as the discrepancy between 0-100 CP and 500+ is massive. Combine this with the PC account copies on consoles and it demonstrates how little foresight ZOS had when designing them. To be fair, due to how some of the passive bonuses work, even 300 compared to 800 provides a significant advantage. Worse yet, each CP grants a basic stat boost so the bonus scales even more adding resources and increased damage. CP really are a mess and in typical ZOS fashion they cannot figure out how to solve their mistake (although they never admit they make any).Edited by Hiero_Glyph on September 14, 2015 2:15PM1 -

BlackguardBob✭✭✭NoI only have 89 CPs but I cannot for the life of me "see" the difference in gameplay or performance as yet. My level VR 14 Sorc/vampire doesn't seem to benefit in any way that I can spot. I dare say though, with 1,000 there would be a difference but at the rate that I acquire CPs, 10 years will pass before I have 3,600 of them!0 -

There may be differences, but would those differences really prevent you from doing the same things across your multiple accounts? Let's say they all have the same gear, level, alliance rank, etc, but just different champion point levels.0 -

Actually, besides the trolling accusations, this thread has been pretty fruitful.
@BuggeX @Winterpsy did a good job at explaining their 'no' answer. @I Highlander l and @Flameheart really added quite a bit of knowledge into the thread and have made me rethink my convictions about the champion point system.

Well lets look at a couple of the passives.
Arcane Well takes a large number of champion points to unlock, but I have a hard time imagining that it could make a big difference if procd. Yes, it gives back magic, but, in my opinion, players are already able to have the regen they need without arcane well.
Also, look at shield expert. An increase of shield armor by 75% sounds huge, but an extra 1000 armor is only around an extra 1.5% damage mitigation (which comes out to be around .75% after certain diminished returns) and isn't that bag of a difference.
I'm open to the idea that if I had another 90 points into armor rating that I would be able to withstand more punishment, but I don't see that changing up my play style or what I'm able to do too much.Edited by Personofsecrets on September 14, 2015 6:12PM0 -

This is the mistake that so many make when thinking about CP as they individualize the system, not quantify it as a whole. When you can mitigate damage with additional armor, increases resists, regeneration, damage, how much damage you can block, reduce CC costs, etc. it all adds up to providing a significant advantage over another player without these bonuses, or at least as many of them. Also, there is a straight stat bonus granted from earning each CP so in addition to all of these things you get higher stats as well.
The problem is not with CP itself, but rather in the fact that you can eventually gain all of these bonuses on every character you have. This is game-breaking and while we are talking years worth of grinding for most, there are players that have 1k+ CP already. CP should be a strategic choice where deciding between reduced costs or increased regen is a difficult decision, not one where you just have to grind more until you get both. The idea of extended customization is great but CP only fulfills this initially and over time it just makes every character more similar to the next while punishing new players excessively. A year from now CP will be a bane to the game, not a benefit.2 -
Suru✭✭✭✭YesOf course, no one can really refute that CP makes a player stronger. Whether it is damage, sustain or mitigation. They all lead to a player being stronger. Predictable poll is predictable. If you have CP tho, you spend the time,effort and dedication to reach that level of CP, therefore SHOULD be stronger.
