Might of the Guild

So I just started including the mage guild line in some of my builds. This passive says it gives you a 20% boost to your next attack within 5 seconds of using a non toggle mage guild ability. It seems tailor built for Entropy, the thing that is confusing me is what is an attack? With add-ons I can see the buffs applied to my build, if I use a weapon skill it is toggled off. When I use a class skill like puncturing strikes the buff stays up, I am taking this to mean that it is not being used for those skills. I have been trying to track damage but I can't tell a discernible difference with the buff on when using class skills. Anyone do any hard core testing on this?

Addons that show buffs may or may not be reliable. The API never allowed addons to see when buffs were actually in effect, so addon creators had to rely on knowing how long a buff was supposed to last, and simply applying a countdown based on that at the time the skill applying the buff was triggered. For a number of reasons, this isn't always reliable. In the case of a buff that applies to the next attack within 5 seconds (like this one), an addon would show the buff for 5 seconds, regardless of whether an attack was made in that time and caused the buff to expire, because the addon would have no way of knowing that the buff had actually expired before the time ran out.

Now I've heard that the API may now actually provide the data required to know which buffs are actually in effect. If that's true, then addons can now reliably track buffs. That still doesn't necessarily mean that they all do accurately track buffs, though, because they may not have been updated by the author, or if they have you may not be running the most recent version, etc.

Your arms glow when you have this buff. Every (almost) buff and debuff in the game has a visual and/or audio cue.

Yes my arms do glow then stop if I use a weapon attack that being a skill from that line or a basic light/heavy attack. When I use something like puncturing sweeps the glow remains as does the tracking icon. So what this is indicating to me is that only attacks with an actual weapon not class skills are getting the benefit. If this is the intention fine but reword the description to say weapon attacks. If this is in fact suppose to work on any attack with in 5 seconds then fix it please ZOS. Also if it is any attack explain if it is the initial tick for a DOT or channeled attack that gets the 20% buff or any ticks that happen with in that 5 second window. Another question is an AE like steel tornado how many targets hit get the 20% buff?

@ommamae, I find that the buff indicator is qutie accurate. I'm using S'rendarr myself. The Empower buff is not being consumed by Puncturing Sweep as it is considered a DoT. If you tried Piercing Javelin you'll find that the Empower buff is consumed.

    Hope that helps =)

Ok that is a nice break down. But the issue is the description says the next attack if done in 5 seconds after use of a mage guild non-toggle ability will give a 20% bonus. So DoT is an attack right? If that is to be excluded from the buff then ZOS should state that in the description.

I agree what is worse is they actually did a revamp of them and they are still confusing and misleading.
