XBox EU cotroller issues?

Does anyone else find controllers just don't fully function?
I've bought a new XBox for ESO, and 5 controllers so far...each has at least a button function that doesn't work.
eg: Present controller doesn't register on the star under the left thumb...it takes extreme pressure to force operation, and this is still no guarantee.
Others I've had issues with Ult not functioning, block not functioning, or even the A button refusing to pickup-action.

The Box is hard wired internet, but could I be having Box to controller (wireless?) issues and not the actual controllers?
Any assistance or information would be greatly appreciated.

    The controllers do not update wirelessly. Have you plugged your controllers into the USB port to see if they are running the latest version?
