Character Name Change and Appearance

I also will like to see appearance and name change implemented into the game.
Have a barber shop set up shop in the main cities for hair, facial tattoos/piercings, etc.
A quest is a nice suggestion, but shouldn't offer anything except one or two appearance changes that are character bound and can't be put in the bank.
All the MMOs I've played offered only pay for these services.

For the nay-Sayers, it's not like anyone is forced one way or another.
Don't want it? Don't buy it.

I spelled the name of my main character wrong, whoops.... So it would be nice to have a name change, but appearance would be a little bit strange, do they have plastic surgery in tamriel?

They definitely do have plastic surg... uhm... magery. Facechanger wizerd in skyrim, anyone?

Heck, they even have race change. Remember that one quest in Greenshade where you find alchemical ingredients in that nothernmost dwelver and bring to the dunmer to turn himself into a khajiit? (hint - he didn't get the recipe -quite- right... but he did change his race...)

Why not just create a new toon? If you haven't figured out that you don't like your character's name and appearance before level 10, you should probably just lump it.

The problem is that we invest a lot of time with these characters and over time, they grow and evolve. It would be nice to have the option to change their appearance to reflect these changes.

Example: I made a tiny old sorcerer who casts magic. Now I want to try a stamina build and make my sorcerer look like a ripped bad ass. I don't want to rock weapons and enter battle as an old man. Because I can't change my appearance, it actually stops me from trying new builds and playstyles with a character I've invested an insane amount of time with.

To say, "just make a new character," is not okay. Many people work and only have time to play one character in order to experience and enjoy the end game content. To start over is a discouraging thought and once a player losses the passion to log on and play their character, they move on to other games.

I realize everyone wants everything free. Especially in a sub based game. Those feelings have validity even though I do not share them. I would gladly pay five bucks for a "Magic Mirror" that gave me 8 character recreations.

I agree with everything you said, and to a point even this statement. However, I think that base changes (the character customization options that come with the base game such as hair/tatoos/eye color/etc., I'm even for body changes because people do grow/shrink/age/get scars over time) should be available in-game for a gold fee.

But I would also like to see them take advantage of this opportunity to provide new hairstyles, tatoos, and other customization options (within reason) in packs and whatnot in the Crown Store. This would allow them more opportunities to entice even those who are (at the time) completely satisfied with the way their character looks...because when that new awesome tattoo or hairstyle or make-up option pops up that you just know is perfect for your character...money. ;)

Maybe even make it so that changes to Crown Store purchased customization options come without a gold fee when you go to change your character. Only those features, though, and if you switch back to a non-crown "item" then you still have to pay the gold fee.

Maybe that's too complicated, but I'd sure prefer it to the alternative. Partially because I don't want to pay (cash) for the same old options, and partially because I think they'd be more likely to provide further character customization if people didn't have to pay for a full character change when all they really want is access to those nifty earrings that just came out.

Edited to note that I JUST realized that I responded to a post from October 2014. /facepalm
    Apologies!

The game is no longer sub based, so free stuff is far less likely to happen. Thus any big character changes will be crown fuelled. Best we can hope for is for them to be generous and allow "everyday" changes (like hairstyle, makeup, adornments) for gold, charging crowns only for the "structural" changes (like body shape, voice, eye&skin color, etc.). And they most certainly Will be selling new options in the crown store when some recustomization option becomes available (just how many people wanted a sai sahan style beard by now?)

One - sometimes it takes a while to notice some of the smaller details. Stuff looks all right for a while, and then somewhen in cadwells silver you finally wear your first jerkin style chestpiece instead of a robe, and go "oh, noes, my character has way to skinny legs..." after half a year playing, researching, levelling... or the player who made a decent looking human, then went vampire and discovers their hair coloration makes them look funny with vampy skin... kinda callous to say to those "just dump all your time spent and reroll", its the kind of thing that would make players feel vexed with the game, and ZOS doesn't make money from people who leave ESO in dissapointment.

Two - sometimes people want to change their looks depending on where they are in the story. A player who made their chareacter redheaded for the "missing a soul" storyline, and want to change after recovering that very soul at the end of the main story. A player who made their character a fresh faced squire to start with, and would like to update the looks to a grizzled veteran at completing cadwells. Or even those who completely wish to redesign their character to make a clean break after some long standing roleplay end in unfortunate events, but do not with to loose all the levelling and research times they spent on that character.

Why should it be a bad thing for ZOS to make money giving all those people an option to recustomize their characters, then potentially make more money by keeping them in ESO this way instead of having half of them leave feeling dissapointed, looking for a new place to spend their online time?

Hmm, they let me change a character name because of lore reasons (punctuation mistake of a Khajiit name) without all of this reoprting crap. But this was many months ago, back before they fired all the CS staff. lol

I really hope they add appearance changing at some point in time. I've been trying to embrace the ugliness but I'm really getting tired of my ugly argonian. I swear my character looks good in the character creation and character selection screens, but looks like poop in game. I know I could create a new character but I've been playing this character everyday since console launch and you know that would kinda suck to have to restart .

Totally agree, don't understand why TESO doesn't offer "name change" , "barber/hairdresser" in the crown store. It sure doesn't seem like it would be difficult to do and I could see a big income from those options.

I want the name change option so I can reuse a name that's currently on a retired main now acting as a crafter. I could append a surname but I hate using surnames on my characters. And making appearance alterations is a no-brainer.

It surprises me that things like this weren't made available a long time ago. The stuff in the Crown Store at the moment doesn't tempt me to spend any money. I'm sure its easy to implement new mounts or create new costumes, but I want services not things.

If they could do it in Morrowind, why cant they do it in ESO? It should have been implimented the same way.Well, rather,a button for the race menu, since they have no console ~ we can use. Too bad, really. It was easy to do.

@whiskeyriver it's a bit more complicated for an online game, but still doable.

What they have to do is essentially add a tag to your character, you enter a name you want, the server then checks if it's available.
If it is, then it can lock it down, and you select change name (entry will be something witty like "Are you sure you want to change your name?"), and it does the change and deletes the tag.

This entire game is complicated so this fits right in there.Lol!

both name correction (something i currently have a support ticket going for, and its just for 2 letters of the name that i accidentially did wrong and i dont want to remake the char cause she looks absolutely perfect right now and i cant possibly reproduce that) and face and size edit are really necessary.

The dimensions of character race sizes are extremely diverse and its like some have said before, sometimes you expect to look normal yet the moment you walk in town find out youre either a giant or a hobbit. And this is not a good thing.

Lightning. They need to add different scenery examples while creating the character. I cant explain how frustrating it is to spend like half an hour (yeah... ;__;) in creating a character I like (exactly because I know I cant change it after) and get in world to see that the brown hair I chose is blond (the problem is with high elves) or that the dark hair I choose is not as dark as I expected. I did find a trick however, to get out of the character creation (on PS4) and then get back in, your character will remain the same but the environment will have more light, so you get to see how the character will look in world, but still its annoying to keep doing that with every hair color.

Another thing that would be cool is to be able to lock features or to save a character appearance and be able to load it back when we want to create a new one, because once I made a character that I loved how she looked, but wanted her as a sorcerer instead of NB for example.

I wouldn't expect the CS changing your name. I tried that, too (see my signature, last character in the list lol), but they said they only can do this when the name is offensive. So yeah, I have to stick with it, unfortunately. I didn't even create this character to level, he was only made to hold some of my stuff, but.. after such a long time, I decided to level him as he deserves ;) But I'd love to change that name, though. What also bothers me extremely is that we can't put a capital letter within a word/name, so it looks even more stupid (only spelled correctly in the signature).

IMO, it's more or less like RL where once a character is born/created that's how it should be left (ignoring growing, gaining weight and working out, obvs!). If total body/face composition was introduced then I wouldn't use it: I like to have a connection with my characters and changing key aspects (and even the ability to) just loses all of that. Slightly off-topic but I find it odd enough as it is that you can essentially change the complete build at whatever level (e.g. Stamina NB in to a Magicka NB).

I don't see any issues with changing a haircut or adding tattoos/markings, though.

But this is a matter of personal preference and while there is certainly nothing wrong with your preference the fact is, it wouldn't be at all affected by giving the rest of us what we want.
