Should Imperial City have an option to turn off PVP so PVEers can enjoy the content?

Cyrodil, and by extension the Imperial City, is a PvP-oriented zone. Just in the same way Craglorn is a group-centered PvE zone. If you do not want to participate, do not enter the zone.

Even the PvE content inside this PvP centric zone was built with potential PvP-encounters in mind. PvE quests in Cyrodil were available in the base game, and they will come to the Imperial City too. Just like their predecessor, they will come with the unspoken agreement that you could encounter an enemy player at any time, and that said enemy player has the ability to attack you and vice versa. It is simply a part of being in Cyrodil.

Please! I don't even try to enter the city anymore, I am so sick of getting ganked. I don't do PvP, never have, never will. You'd think PvP players would just stop attacking when they realize you are not fighting back, just standing there? Nope, got to be a jerk and kill me, even when I type "Hey, I'm not going to fight back, why don't you find someone who will?".

Ofcourse they should, and I want an option to disable all the monsters in dungeons so that they're dead by default, that way I don't have to spend countless of hours farming for certain gear I wish to use in PVP.

    Sounds fair enough to me.

    No!

Its designed a certain way to be a bit of both....

There are pure PvE parts (New dungeons) if you really hate the PvP side.

Why try & change it into something its not meant to be?

It's an update for people who like both so leave it to do what its meant to....

Ah! But getting to the PVE parts without getting ganked is the challenge. Far more so than the PVE dungeons IMO.

Goodness gracious, no. While I think it was a poor decision to couple the latest tier of gear so tightly with PvP content, I wouldn't want the PvP campaigns to be full of people not actually capable of PvP. Not with the pop caps so low and the demand for the content so high. Hopefully it'll only be another 3 months before all these materials are farmable in Orsinium, or whichever the next DLC is. Then we PvP types can enjoy the combat without the PvE types getting caught in the game design crossfire.

I very much prefer PvE over PvP, and even I say "no" to this idea!

Cyrodil is PvP-land, IC is PvP-central. Saying people should be able to opt out from all the PVPing is like saying people ought to opt out from all the combat encounters in other regions just so they can enjoy the landscape...

Want to enjoy the IC content despite being an bad PvPer? Grab some -good- PvPers from your guild, or found from zone chat, or whatever, tag along with 'em while they go there...

Turn off PvE in IC, turn it on for every other zone in the game and make all zones cross-faction.

Yes, everyone else gets their toggle's for minimalist UI, why can't those who could care less about PvP have it shoved down their throats? Forcing a game type on people is always a bad decision. It would change nothing, PvP toggled off? No TV stones for you.

This topic is...umm... weird to approach.... it would ruin the pvp mechanics...

My mistake.. ZoS has put two (2) new PvE dungeons in... and in interviews they have said they are for the pve players who dont want to pvp.

If the new crafting materials in IC will be available to harvest when Orsinium comes out, then "No". What I mean by this is if they make it possible for both PvE players and PvP players to both have access to these materials without having to spend time in activities which are in opposition to their entire play style then I think that IC should be kept as a PvP zone... and I say that as someone who hates PvP after having gotten bored of it back when it was text based.

Of course, what would be better would be to have PvE and PvP servers (much like the EU and NA servers) but I doubt that ZOS would go to those lengths for us.

If the new crafting materials are not made available in Orsinium then there does need to be a way for PvE players to get them without undertaking PvP or group content (deconning is not a good way to try and collect enough mats to maintain a crafting business and you can't decon potions).

So, @Forestd16b14_ESO , given that we have quotes, such as those in the spoiler tag below, on this very page of this very thread.... do you think that goal of bringing the communities together has worked?
    Emphasis mine

Just wait a few months. When the next batch of content is released, IC will vastly depopulate. There will be waves of posts of people complaining that they are forced to PvE to stay competitive.

Expect the next DLC to be a bumpy ride as they may not have learned their lesson from Craglorn due to the amount of time that has past since Craglorn was developed.

I will be curious if the new content will effectively shut down IC. A lot of the arrogant saber rattling comes from bullying fish out of water. Without those fish, then IC will basically become an an unused PvE area and, as a result, dead except for the occasional zerg vs. zerg. Those will more than likely move back to Cyrodiil as there are actually PvP objectives/goals in regular Cyrodiil.

I play only PvE now that I am old, and my fingers just don't move as fast as they once did.

Imperial City should remain Open-World-PvP...or PvE/PvP Blend if you prefer it said that way.

    Patience.

I would leave it as it is intended to be. Release of future content areas will relegate IC to the dust bin. When Orsinium is released, then the PvE population count will all shift out of Cyrodiil and over to Orsinium.

More than likely Trueflame will be extinguished due to drop in population during the process.

If the vet level is bumped up to v18, then regular Cyrodiil will become a lousy place to level a character as a player will gain 1/3 the xp on a kill there.

Yes, Zenimax should make Imperial City sewers accessible without having to PVP to get there. Here's the reason why:

Some subscribers may only like to PVE. They don't like the antics that happen in PVP-land. While other people are saying that Imperial City is an extension of Cyrodiil- the Group Dungeons (White-Gold Tower/IC Prison content) and Tel Var vendors are not PVP centered.

Today, I tried to access content... but I can't. There's a group of twelve people "ganking" the Imperial City Sewers entrance. I realize it's a few bad apples ruining the game for people... but it can be fixed. I foresee this happening more and more. Plus, there's NO WAY anyone should have to rally up 12+ people just to FIGHT FOR ACCESS to the new content.

I love to PVE and PVP. Hell, I love the CQC of Imperial City! But I don't think people should be constraied to pull zergs together just for paid access. That's a quick way to lose PVE-oriented members who want access to the latest gear (which they paid for). Just make a simple portal to take people to the vendors. Or make a "safe zone" not accessible by other alliances around the entrance.
Want to enjoy the game more? Try both PvP (crybabies) and PvE (carebears). You'll get a better perspective on everyone's opinion.

I'm a PvE'er and I'd love the Imperial City to be PvE but I'm going to have to say no. There's a three way war on the entire continent and on top of that there's a daedric invasion going on with the Imperial City being the center of it all. It's a warzone, kill or be killed. It's a PvP DLC with PvE elements in it.
I don't mind it. You know why? Orsinium. An entirely new zone coming that will be PvE only.
So I can endure some crazy PvP in my PvE for now because once Orsinium comes all us PvE'ers will have plenty to do and won't have to go into the Imperial City.

Basically enjoy the content as best you can because more is coming.

Sorry, that was an inevitability after the posts about Carebears and PvPers raged across the forums. Those posts probably polarized a lot of players and at the end of the day. PvEers don't need the PvP content to be competitive; however, PvPers need the PvE content to remain competitive. Thus, sales of newer PvE content will exceed sales of PvP content. That will drive content direction.

They may announce future PvP content to test the waters. I would expect newer PvP content to be less well received than IC was by the community as a whole.
