noob: how do I craft higher level items?

I am confused - how do I craft higher level items? Do I learn new recipes from somewhere? Or do I just apply more material to a recipe to make it a higher level?

I finished the crafting tutorial (yay me!) and now have no clue how to craft level 10 and up basic items.

If you click "video beginner guides" in my signature, I have guides for all the crafts.

For provisioning you need to find recipes.

For equipment (clothing, blacksmith, woodwork) you need to harvest stuff in the world, refine it, and THEN craft with it. The material you use, and how much of it you use, dictates the level of the item. The first materials make items up to level 14, after that you need to put a skill point into the first passive under the appropriate crafting skill tree to be able to use the next tier of material (which you will need to buy/harvest)

Oh, and even before you understand them, start researching traits! They will end up taking a month each to research later on.. so the earlier the better.
