So I've got these two items, compilation of first concerns and mahogany lawn bowling set, but do they actually do anything or shall I just sell them?

The compilation of first concerns is unlocked when you get to three stars in the forum. It shows you all the discussions from the beta groups so you have a history of how the game has evolved.

The mahogany lawn bowling set does nothing now, but it will be a decoration when ZoS releases housing, sometime after Orsinium.

Note - all of this is complete bologna, they're just salable items.

Sell or launder it. Yes, you should be laundering items if you're trying to raise your Legerdemain skill line. You can only sell 50 (or eventually 120) items per day but you can launder the same amount and doing both every day helps your leveling. The good news is items you launder can be sold for the amount you paid to launder them so it's neutral on cost. And if you launder something like a recipe or motif you can usually sell it for a tidy profit to another player. But the items, like the ones you found, really have no other use but to be sold to merchants or to the fence.
