Underwater Exploration

So while listening to the developer QA regarding the imperial city DLC it struck me how much of a disconnect there is between what has been in the single player games and what is being considered/worked on for ESO. The one comment from the creative director that really bothered me was the surface only swimming comment. I don't necessarily need underwater combat although I would love to smack those damn slaughter fish but the freedom to explore under water areas has always been a part of the TES universe. Your statement of the difficulty regarding the implementation doesn't hold, there are several competing MMO who have implemented under water activities. The fact that one of the great things about the TES universe was the freedom to go into the air or into water using magical means. The fact that you would sacrifice that with many other staples of the canon you have set your world in based on your technical limitations bothers me, it makes me question those making the design decisions.

I personally think it's a travesty that ESO doesn't have underwater content.

It kind of makes the think ZOS should have made a fallout MMO. I wouldn't mind not being able to swim underwater in the wasteland.

This has been discussed and answered that ZOS has NO PLANS of any form of water combat or water exploration. What we have now is all we are getting when it comes to water which kinda throws the Argonian passive that increases swim speed under the bus.

It's a shame it won't be implemented. Some of that water is so beautiful it's just begging to get swam under. They could add pearls to dive for in your down time they can be sold to merchants, with chances of finding more valuable ones. Would give you something to do if you hate fishing. Could develop some interesting revenue there in terms of Swimming Training (ie: how long you can hold your breath, how fast you can swim). Argonians should obviously get a +10% increase on that or something. Suffice it to say there's a lot of opportunity there

Didn't someone find some uses for that involving getting to areas they weren't supposed to because they could survive the slaughterfish?

Some mmos like Guild Wars 2 even have underwater combat with water specific weapons.

"Argonians should obviously get a +10% increase on that or something."

They can breathe underwater, and could sit there indefinitely. Imagine in PVP if you could swim underwater. Could give them an unfair advantage, no? Though aside from the lake near Arrius mine there isn't much water you come across in PVP.

Yes. I mentioned them just getting an increase to give ZOS an incentive to sell swimming training. Wouldn't be needed if Argonians could breathe indefinitely underwater ;)
The swimming should probably be limited to outside of Cyrodiil.

Funny because I seem to recall hearing differently. At the very least I'd consider this possible in the future and not a never.

They actually did a developer Armchair during ESO live and went through the complexities of such an idea.
It's not something they want to do but if you like you can revisit it on the saved episodes. I believe it was back in May or April tho

I have seen the media and heard their reasoning but I don't agree with it. One underwater exploration/combat is a staple of the TES universe. Two their competitors have done it as early as DAoC.

The argument that this isn't an Elder Scroll online doesn't hold as that is the setting this game takes place in. Yes they have modified it to fit in the scenario they have set up but underwater exploration is needed to further flesh out the universe.

Trials of Atlantis was the biggest waste of content IMO on DAoC but I bought it but why do you say it's a staple. I only recal very few games in the MMO genre with full underwater content which didn't work so well in any compared to other content.

Staple in the TES series @NewBlacksmurf. Some of my most memorable moments in Daggerfall and Oblivion were of underwater content. In the series about exploration and freedom of play things like surface only water and invisible walls really damage the experience. I don't feel like I'm free to explore in ESO... and that's because I'm not.

Yea. Put some plants down there. Couple of treasure chests and some docile fish. That would be sufficient, for now.

    oh that cursed topic again.

in eso live, they picked my question, (also they made fun of the way I asked my question. Sorry dude, English isn't my first language.)

Anyway, Rich made me punch the desk like that nerd German kid when he silenced Eric. He was trying to finish his words. "maybe in some areas..."

Man, forget about it. Not gonna happen. As much as I want only the exploration part of it, I'd like to see them fix the bugs and some weird design decisions first.
