Would you enjoy ESO more if you didn't read the forums?

BlueGreenMikey
Fairly simple poll question. This is somewhat based on the idea that we read a lot of complaints, bug reports, etc. here and see a lot of negativity on the forums, which might make a person feel negative about the game in a way they wouldn't if they didn't see all of that.

(Based on a coworker telling me that she was feeling down because of all the "bad stuff in the world" so she was going to stop reading the news.)

For me, it actually makes the game more fun. I like to think some of the unpleasant folks on the forums are some of the same folks who taste my blade in Cyrodiil. ;)

    So much negativity.
Mind you I'm not at the stage of the game most of the complainers are. Their complaints may well be valid although irrelevant to me atm.

It never bothers me, and I try to add some positive balance to the negativity - not as a fanboy but as a player who genuinely has had no performance issues since launch and no other real problems or grievances since then, although I am a solo PvE altoholic still leveling up from PC launch as I enjoy the journey and have no particular interest in the destination.

For those of a more critical or sensitive nature, I always recommend two golden rules - don't read the forums, and don't read the patch notes. That way you'll never find yourself unduly depressed by either and will carry on enjoying the game. Most of the changes you won't even notice.

Sort of like eating something with your nose held and blindfolded?

I for one like to be informed of what is going on. I may not like it, but simply hiding from things and acting as if they do not exist is not my way of doing anything.

If there is negativity then there must be a reason for it.. Maybe I do not agree with what the person is unhappy with and I think they are being unrealistic at times. But they do have that right to do so.

It's a complex issue; on the one hand, I've gotten a lot of help from fellow players, better insight into how the game is supposed to be played, and when there is an issue, I find common cause (mostly) with those experiencing the same errors/concerns/etc..

The tenuous part is when there is a disagreement with a dev decision; for example, a changed skill in an update, that will most likely not revert back to its preferred form. Then the common cause becomes a crusade against a brick wall, and either folks accept the change, or become frustrated, increasingly so, to the point where it does start to impact their play time negatively.

The forums can focus this energy like a magnifying glass with the sun, and it's best to get out from underneath it.

Nope. Every now and then when I start to feel like the negativity on the forums is affecting me (and might start making me enjoy the game less) I take a bit of a break from the forums.

I enjoy perusing and commenting on the forums when I'm at work, wishing I could play eso. You have to take it for what it's worth though.

75% of the negativity is some kind of laughable post that boils down to someone wanting ESO to be like some other game they say is sooo much better...even though they're not playing that game (logic).

20% is people screaming for a nerf to some class, dungeon, mob, boss, because they got owned a few times and refuse to adapt.

3% are troll threads, my personal favorite, that incite intense verbal debates even though their original purpose was to give us a laugh.

2% are random jacklegs making up percentages and statistics about the playerbase and forums as if they have concrete evidence from reliable sources of data.

There needs to be a third option. One for the forums adding to/improving our enjoyment of the game.

Tbh the game stinks as an Elder Scrolls edition. Some apples are apples, some apples are just a picture on the ground you cannot interact with. Do you remember when Oblivion/Skyrim were released and they talked about the physics of the games and how you could walk into chains and they would act in a real world(ish) manner, arrows stuck in a bucket would pull the bucket in a certain direction... walk into a chain in eso and you stop dead or walk right through it.

The reason eso gets given a break from being the worst TES game ever, is by finding out here, on the forums, that it is not actually part of/from the real TES family. It's something done by an associated company that you then give a break to as they are obviously not as good as the real team.

There is a third viewpoint ;)

Why would the forums impact my enjoyment? Forums are a game unto themselves, mostly inhabited by clowns, waste products, and anti-matter. None of which have any bearing on the actual game. Every once in a while you find a golden nugget though...

Like many here I am only on the forums when I am not able to get on the game (work sucks).

Some helpful advice for forum use is take what you need and leave the rest. There will be negativity, trolls, and things you don't agree with. Ignore them and you will be happier for it.

Because obviously things like guilds, players helping players, and crafting are irrelevant to them?
If I kept out of general discussion my view of the forums would be a lot more positive but guess what, I still want to discuss the game in general even if I can't reach the standard of negativity apparently required.
