why is IC pvp kinda pointless? details inside!

we have all seen the circle zerg in the memorial district, but after experiencing more aspects and zones of the IC I kind of fail to see the point.

if you want TV stones farming mobs in the sewers is both faster and safer, and its so easy to go to the bank nobody takes the risk of going into a pvp encounter with their stones (lol) the new gear all drops from mobs which as I have states is more easily done in the sewers. AP is worthless now for the most part as well.

so after running around for about an hour in the memorial district I sat back and thought "what's the point?" I had mode no progress, actually I had set myself back cause I came with a few stones and left with none (lol)

I mean it might be different if combat was engaging at all but this whole update is such a zerg fest and its so random as to what skills are still decent or made useless by the cyro cuts. and with the nerfing of strategic tactics such as blocking, dodge rolling, etc. you end up just spamming damage and seeing who wins. (or joining a zerg and spamming your nearest and dearest AOE.

so. . .its kinda pointless?

    LOL

the point of most mmo's is: Progress

most people always want to be working towards something, and have tangible progress for their time spent.

that's why RNG is bulls#!t as far as a mechanic because there is no measurable progress, you could waste your time and it does not equally reward time invested vs profit.

pvp in the IC can actually result in negative progress, that's not an incentive.

I'm starting to think that the developers were taking a break one day and decided to watch a movie. The movie turned ouf the be "Fifty Shades of Grey" , then they went back to work. While working on ideas for the Dlc, one oc them said, " I know, lets mix the PvP players and the PvE pplayers together in one area.

Fyi, if you don't know that movie is basically a S & M flick.

I think someone carried some of that over to their design.

IC as a whole probably isn't as powerful as it could have been. The main story should have continued through several game packs. The showdown with Molag Bal shouldn't have happened yet.

Between Silver, Gold, and IC (relative to the main story), it's hard to discern how influential your character really is in the PVE world. Things happen, but you can't help wondering if it really happened or it's just a Daedric sandbox.

I'm thinking IC might be best served to those who have only played Cyrodiil from level 10 onward, eliminating all the story issues. In fact, you can probably take Cyrodiil and IC as an entirely different story for an entirely different hero in the era.

I might try that. Maybe that's the best way to really excel at PVP.

Pointless? What about having fun? I like the PvP in IC, whether it be solo or in a group. Urban warfare is a nice change in scenery after 1.5 years of sieging keeps and defending them.

But people only seem to be focused on Achievements and stones and after they got them they leave. Same is with game like Battlefield or COD. People have all unlocks and they claim they finished the game. But the older game (BF1942) there where no achievements or unlocks. People played the game..for fun.
reindly fire and no skills, just two hands like skyrim :> that would be a dream

I was thinking the same. Just like the game is now, but with the battles like Warband (mount & blade). No skills, just heavy attacks and light and shields and of course mounted combat.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

IC was fun for about 10-12 hours of gameplay. I admit I played quite a bit already. Almost the entire time, I was having a ridiculously good time. But I really started to realize some things and sour on it. It sucks, I have been waiting for this since launch.

Maybe it will be more fun later. Right now, there is very little interest in farming TV stones. I have the v15 set I wanted legendary, and I am happy with the rest of my gear. Farming 50,000 stones to increase my set to v16 for maybe 2% more effectiveness is not a priority.

The RNG aspect of the trophy rooms is a little depressing, although I'm sure after a few months, I will accumulate a decent set.

The problem is, what to do for a few months?

All I really used to play was Cyrodiil. The sewer thing can be a lot of fun, but once I realized I don't have a burning desire for TV stones anymore, the whole thing became pretty repetitive. The city streets themselves define repetitiveness. They are just a weird CoD clone. At some point certain members of opposing alliances and my group just left each other alone, because it just got old. The quests, so far, were some of the most uninspired I have seen in the game.

Finally got tired of it, and went to Cyrodiil. No one was there, no big fights in my 2 campaigns. The load screens are terrible, and there is some weird video / net lag I haven't experienced before (IC was running fine: sewers and streets)

I was a big champion of gated access to IC, but even that I'm not sure would have helped.

If I don't care about tv stones, sewers, street fights, trophy rooms, pve in general, and Cyrodiil is dead, what else is there? I know this sounds like I'm playing the wrong game, but I played a few hours in Cyrodiil almost every night since beta.

That's why i would like to see a pvp progression that incentives also alliance points, with new alliance abilities and passives, currently after alliance rank 8 (alliance level 18) there is no more progression in that line, you fight just for the title. I relly big hope they focus also on that.

You're supposed to have fun. Nothing have changed, Cyrodil's meaning is buffs what your faction gets from it if you're winning and holding scrolls, so that should drive you forward, at least we have some kind of meaning/purpose, most games does not have anything.

Ive actually suggested new system to then, one could use APs to become a Knight for a certain Castle, get some buffs and if the Castles is lost, you lose your Knight status, could work as anti-zerg measure too. Also when you're Knight, your kills are calculated so you can boast.

City District combat is useless, the guys you kill will come back for you 10 seconds later with full resources and you might still be in combat or recovering from combat and its neverending deathmatch.

Sewers however are lovely, ppl cant instantly respawn near you and monsters are fun, scamps and treasure chests and bosses are fun. All the nooks and crannies are good for hiding and escaping zergs.

Biggest issue I have tho is the damn ZERGblobs ppl run in now because small scale combat or 1vX is basicly impossible now with the new damage reduction so if ppl are bad and mess up, they still manage to heal up in time. Combat is far too forgiving and noob-friendly.

Well said. For me its also very suprising feeling whne i rob enemy players - i really feel kinda sad. Add to that lack of destiantion ( 3 factions fight for the crown jewel - Imerial City - yeah right) and the overwhelming feeling that its not pvp i liked. Its gang wars online - gimme all your stones.

I totally agree, the districts are entirely pointless, after the first night I decided unless you are doing the quests there is zero reason to be there over the sewers. The sewers are really quite fun, although they favor zergs too heavily. The worst part about this expansion is the gear that you can get with TV stones is so rubbish that the stones themselves are almost worthless aside from crafting materials. If they would add the dropped sets for purchase with TV stones then they would have the PvP/PvE balance right.

To make cyrodiil worthwhile again they need to add vr16 lottery bags and AP gear.

The only thing in this thread I can actually agree on is the addition of friendly fire. Sometimes you just need to slap the crap out of your allies y'know?

Would also make dueling your faction possible lol
