Lightless oubliette- what did you do, ZOS????

What had been a trivial game of twisting prisms to focus a light has been changed into.... I dunno...what exactly? A punishing game of speed racer?
There's no rhyme or reason to what's going on with the prisms currently. Now they very quickly shut off while you're still trying to adjust the next prism. What gives, ZOS? Nothing in the journal entry or from Dynar himself has been changed to alert the player to the fact that this puzzle is indecipherable at the moment.

Little help, please? Anyone?

Wait, what? They changed it? To be honest, I never felt like that "puzzle" was really much of a puzzle (I mean, you don't have to figure anything out, you just turn a prism until it sends the light to another prism, then do the same there, and so on until it works), but if they now randomly turn off... Well, that's not a good thing.

I found this last night, not a speed race exactly, but worse lol. I found that I had to go to the last prism that needed turning when the beam died and turn it 6 times in advance then go back to source and rotate it to enable the beam and had to do that with each one.
Turning 6 times when not active helped and I hope that helps you

Thank you, but I tried your "six turns" suggestion and that is not working either. Really at a loss here. Basically done with the quest yet I stand stymied by nonsense.

I did this quest one day before IC on my alt... Phew. Dodged a bullet.

(Sorry to rub it in. I'm sure it'll get fixed before IC goes to consoles... Well, mostly sure.)

Trying to remember this one. I think I did them one at a time.. when the light shut off at the first, I ran over started it again. The ones I had fixed were ok, just had to get the last few. Are they ALL resetting? or just the first? Oh, and, pretty sure I cleared the room of mobs first.

There are no mobs in the room with the rotating shards. At least there weren't a week ago when I did it with my last alt. I'm so happy that was my 8th slot so I don't have to face this moronic change.

Before Monday you would simply keep twisting the prism that was furthest along on the path until the light focused on the next prism on the path. Easy peasy. Sometimes the light would fork in two directions, but again, just adjust the prism again and the stream would focus.

Now? Now the prisms go off, annoyingly, before you even reach the next one to refocus. So it feels like it might be a speed race, but it isn't, at least I don't think it is.

I've tried refocusing an unlit prism in advance but that seems hit and miss atm as you have zero idea how many times to adjust the prism as there are no visual clues (that ive noted anyway). Worse, the refocusing is time consuming as you focus a prism, wait out the animation, adjust, wait, repeat....

ZOS...is this bugged or am I just a moron?

Basically, I noticed that one prism would would stay glowing like a light bulb despite the stream of light disappearing.

Adjust that prism! Do it enough and it'll find a path once more. Ideally, one of the prisms further on the path will glow like a bulb before the stream goes out. Adjust that one. Rinse, repeat...takes noticeably longer to complete than it ever did prior to Monday.

I too am blocked by this quest for exactly the same reason. It's worse for me as I tried abandoning the quest thinking that it might be glitched and that I could start again from scratch. Now I find that there is no way to restart the quest (that I can find) and I'm basically screwed unless ZOS can fix/rollback my save.

I put in a help ticket 3 days ago (150831-003756) but still no joy

Ok more information. Thanks to some very good help from Clarice at the ZOS helpdesk, I was able to re-aquire the quest. When I got to the prison unfortunately I ended up in exactly the same endless loop of the beam resetting. This video shows what happens for the sceptical amongst you: youtu.be/MXhGUvuXl2g

@sekou_trayvond I never noticed any of the crystals that glowed differently from the rest other than the one at the end of the light beam, but your post did give me an idea for something to try. Basically this is what I did -

I kept turning the crystal at the end of the beam until it reset back to the start. I then went back to where the beam had reset to and turned that crystal until the beam was aligned again. I kept repeating this pattern and eventually the beam made it all the way to the end. Basically turn the end crystal until the beam resets (usually only one turn) and go back to the start again, repeat as long as necessary.

So I finally managed to get this quest completed but what a massive PITA, talk about tedious...

Gah, I couldn't even get halfway through that video... Frustration by proxy! It was driving me mental - I can only imagine how annoying it would be to actually be the one trying to do that quest.

Not sure if this might help or not but it seems there is a delay between the issuing the turn command and it actually rotated - so in some cases I turned it to far. One tell it that there is a slight light bubble pointing the way it is currently pointed. So I just waited till it updated before turning it again (slowed down turning a lot- seemed to be a second or 2 before would update). Did not experience any of them switching off so not sure if was just lucky there.

The prisms work. There is just a long delay. So click one, then wait 30 seconds to see what the effect was before you click it again.

I completed this quest just last night.

I can confirm that it is a matter of response time from the prisms but it is still the same mechanic and still can be completed.
You must look closely at the glow that marks the directions of the prisms and wait patiently for the prism to turn until you activate it again. The problem is not that the prism randomly turns it is that it moves slow and one will queue up more turns than required.

That's good to know. Still a significantly annoying bug, but knowing that it queues up the turns and knowing that it takes a long time to respond to each means that you can complete the quest and get past it with a little patience.

I can confirm that too. Some prisms took nearly a minute to react, others about 10 seconds. To be safe, I activated each and waited about 60 seconds before turning it again. The beam eventually appeared and I was able to complete the quest, albeit in "slow motion".

I had the same issue as the OP and after trying it over and over I noticed what PBpsy mentioned. The crystal turns slower than expected and I was queuing up extra turns so it never stopped in the right position. So after clicking on the crystal wait for 30s or so (don't hit the interaction as soon as it pops up).

LOL yeah it drove me bonkers before I figured out what was happening!
