Console: Should text chat be implemented with the IC patch?

"Niche crowd?" Sorry I wouldn't call a majority a niche crowd. Oh and the stuff at the end is a diversion of the current debate

The overall crowd interested in discussing this feature is niche. Whether its for or against in all the thread polls since March its less than 2,000 ppl for all consoles and PC

regardless of your opinions you can't develop an argument proving that more than 1% of the overall population cares enough to come voice their opinions on the topic here.

I feel like the forum accurately depicts the entire communities thoughts. Especially when the answer is either yes or no, two options. Seriously, how far off could it be?

If anything, they have more of a reason to implement the change, because if their wrong no one gets hurt.

If they don't implement the change and their wrong, they die! Just kidding, prolly nothing major happens but still.... It would be so great to have. I dream of being able to reality easily find a group.

Ive actually been playing a bit again. Levelling a new char on AD kinda with a friend. Been trying to do instance today and this has been the story.

1st Pop. 4 people all show up. However the guy who queued as a healer had queued as all 3 roles and wasnt on mic so we couldnt ask him to heal or gtfo. We booted him. But due to shocking group finder we didnt get another heal. .

2nd Pop. No one showed up but me. No one on mic.

3rd pop. 3 people in group. No healer. Tried to do it wiped.

My point? These are situations where text chat is vital. In the first pop we couldnt even ask the guy if he was a healer ffs. 2nd I could have typed instructions on how to get to instance if they were new and didnt know.

3rd and also for the first we could type in local group LF heal. And probably filled the group in minutes.

This is why people like me leave the game. Why every person I have spoken to who plays or used to play this game say the non inclusion of text is either 'weird' or 'stupid' depending on how passive the person is. There are situations were text chat is not preferable but essential you anti texters can bury your head in the sand all you like but text would only improve the game. Not diminish it. Especially with a group finder as crappy as this one is.
You give me a chat box ZOS and I'll start giving you my money again.

Nergie....you make good points of interest of why a text chat feature makes sense for you but....these are people problems not communication issues. If they won't talk, then they may or may not text chat. No one can draw a conclusion from these examples that one rectifies the other. Did you send them a text msg or are you assuming the communication issue is voice only without verifying the issue?

My suggestion to these situations is to development meaningful TESO relationships with actual in-game friends who you can play with and for PUGs...expect the unexpected. on PC ppl are apprehensive and suggest to enjoy the game, find a good guild to avoid the unexpected.

Please please bring text chat! it will help so much on Guilds!! Friends!! Tradeing!! Finding Crafters! and so much more!

There is not even a "Thank You" in the quick chat i mean common, pvp get revived i want to say at least thanks DX!!

Other online games on the consoles has a text chat, such as FF14 and Warframe XD

Even the Deltia's Gaming pod cast the biggest ESO youtuber out there goes on a rant on episode 22 about bad communication XD is ant that enough evidence that a text chat box is good? here the video if you want to watch HERE

I know some people may not want a text chat box (as it shows in the vote results) so why not at least an option to toggle it on or off that wont hurt would it just like how you can toggle health bars on or off >.< then everyone can be happy?

well thats my rant and hope in the future to see a text chat other than that keep up the good work *bro fist*.
We need a chat box for the consoles please zos please XD!

See your 'solutions' all seem to presume that people play the exact same way as you. People dont. No one plays the same. I like levelling solo. I dont like accepting friend requests from people I dont know. Most of my friends on psn dont like mmos. Why should I have to message people out of game? Forcing me and them to leave the game to type them a bloomin question? And last but not least I am not going to spend my time messaging every bloody person I come across to find out if their mic is working or if they speak english or if they are in any ways competent.

You have found a game that caters exactly to your personal play style. Congratulations. Seriously im happy you are happy.

Nergie....you make good points of interest of why a text chat feature makes sense for you

The ask of did they use text via the console isn't third party...its first party as the console makers software is always primary over the game itself but the point of the comment was to understand IF its truly a resolution to have text chat from their experience. If Nergie didn't do that maybe next time Nergie will and I'm sure Nergie will comment as such so we all learn what may be viable in a given experience from one user to the next.

The game socially is too many fun already which is why you get things that are cool, normal and also get things that are unexpected and annoying. Text chat has spams and walls of text...voice chat has weird sounds and music playing.

You can't control people, you can engineer processes and systems to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible taking into account people are unpredictable.

I say that a LFG text chat channel, that anyone could toggle on when needed, would reach way more people than going to the Undaunted camp and screaming over people and would be faster than using that broken group tool. Plus, people with social problems, women, mutes, etc. Would be able to communicate. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Voice chat would still be there. I don't want to get rid of that unless it is a one or the other chouce, then I choose, text.

I would stop there. A trade text channel would be great. And a PVP channel. And a discussion channel.

    Robkrush,

SOrry if any of my comments made or are making you conclude that I'm trying to control anyone.
I am intentionally trying to discuss and bring to a head a realistic proposal that all sides of this discussion are onboard with.

The big part is navigating along what ZOS hasn't decided against.
Will you help keep the discussion to that tune and also add ideas with me around that theme?

Note he still tries to tell others what to talk about.

ZOS changed the entire structure of the game from a sub to a cash shop.

    They can change this too.

He doesn't want text chat ever , he's said so.

You don't have to listen to him nor talk about what he wants to , if you want real , normal ,text chat , continue to ask for it.

It's completely "realistic" they can change their minds and add it.

He just doesn't want them to , and doesn't want you to continue to ask them to.

    Im not you.

And neither are the 700 odd people who voted yes to this poll.

Please try to learn and understand this.

I believe you're falsely adding your own implications to the comments. If you're not happy and not willing to take advice from others who are happy then just stop playing.

I honestly think you are happy but you have aversion to an absent feature. Lets discuss alternatives that help everyone

    OK

You have been looking for alternatives for about 4k pages of this that has been written and commented upon. Time and again the vast majority of people refuse to bend from the basic belief that text chat would be the most optimal solution to the problem. You could get behind the majority view and help push for it. This is the 'alternative' people have chosen. Why do you, who claim to want to reach a consensus deny the consensus that the majority want?
You give me a chat box ZOS and I'll start giving you my money again.

You cant respond to everyone on here and devalue their opinion by saying "it's a people problem" and they need to use 3rd party tools to make it work for them.. The developers need to engineer in ways to make socialization easy and fun for the majority. The group tool and was novel but it failed. Time to go to the tired and true text chat.

I don't follow why you interpret my comment as devaluing their opinion.

That's a people problem on all platforms

I was not implying YOU are trying to control anyone. I'm saying that I agree there is a people problem but I take it one step farther back and say he people problem is caused by not having the right tools for the job. In this case, we need a better tools to communicate for everyone.

I then summed up my "realistic proposal".

"I say that a LFG text chat channel, that anyone, anywhere, could toggle on when needed, would reach way more people than going to the Undaunted camp and screaming over people and would be faster than using that broken group tool. Plus, people with social problems, women, mutes, etc. would be able to communicate as well. Etc. Etc. Etc.

As far as the "navigation" theme you mentioned, I don't know what you are referring to.

After starting on PC and coming to consoles (only reason I switched is cuz no controller support for PC, stillll) I believe it is VERY helpful. And with Microsofts addition of keyboard support on xbox one, it works out. I have no idea why they haven't already added this (or why they haven't added controller support to PC yet, for that matter)

    So my vote: YES

An undeniable fact, though someone will try to deny it in the next few post, text chat is proven to be the most efficient form of communication in mmo's. I'm not going to list all that I've played but in every single one text chat works. I have never been on any mmo forum and seen people posting "we need voice chat, text chat isn't good enough".
I want to change the world. I'm just to lazy to do it.

You don't have to listen to him nor talk about what he wants to , if you want real , normal ,text chat , continue to ask for it.

It's completely "realistic" they can change their minds and add it.

He just doesn't want them to , and doesn't want you to continue to ask them to.

Or just add text chat and begin with no channels open. In practice this would hide text chat until the user actively joined a channel. Allowing the user to have multiple channels open but only one active at a time would also help in minimizing the clutter. The PM system could operate using the console's messaging system just as it does now so nothing else needs to be added in this area. To think that Warframe does all of this and more and it's barely an MMO, and a shooter at that.

I hope this is a joke.

Until voice only allows you chat with guild mates, randoms in whatever zone you're in, carry on a private conversation and chat with folks in a global chat channel, all at the same time, it will never usurp text chat.

That will be probably the belief right up until that fateful board meeting to discuss why console gamer numbers dropped off a cliff over the months post release & why 'no one' said 'anything' about the underlying issues until it was too far gone to fix.

I'm totally behind this community push for text chat, but I think it's testament to how short sighted the original console port design of this game was and how the lack of proper community feedback channel processes during it's 'one year delay' before launch was an extremely poor decision.

This feature among many others (like a WORKING LFG TOOL) should have been key fundamentals before launch, but simply were assumed they could be addressed post launch.

After my Neverwinter experience on X1 I was gunshy on any further investment into a MMO unless I knew I'd be there for the long term.

But with what I've experienced of ESO so far, I'm just glad I've not opened my wallet any further and community protests like this just confirm that there's no reason for me to open my wallet in the near future either.

ZOS are not engaging the community on what features and functionality they want in a game like this, they're moving with their own vision and ignoring the feedback (until after the fact) and letting people vote with the wallet on design choices instead.

    I'm happy to oblige.

Please don't tell me you think you are a forward thinking individual @Kleptobrainiac ... I'd be terribly concerned about your definition of such a being.

    EXHIBIT A:

ZoS says no. Then says it has nothing new to say about addressing text chat. Why is this still being bumped? It's over and that's okay. C'mon guys, let's hug this one out, aye?

    dr-evil-crying1.gif

The tears were delicious but all things must pass.

... after mass outcries from the playerbase they changed this.

Exactly. So now you see why this whole text chat thing has lost.

    conan-bowing.gif

We'll continue to fight for text chat mate, even if this post is still being bumped in 2020. In cases that are dire to the game's overall community communication whilst online like this we aren't going to accept no. Not from Zenimax and not from you.

If this thread is in anyway affecting your time personally in a negative way on this forum there is a tab to report it to the admins. I suggest you use it or move on. Or just keeping bumping the post! Up to you! Hope this helped. :)

I'll probably just continue to bump it every now and then when I'm bored & it pops up on page one. Once IC drops I'm sure Zen will close this thread anyway. It's fairly obvious that it was the reason they consolidated the topics to this thread.

I really hope that the text chat feature is implemented with the IC patch, and without error/flaw. I absolutely can't stand the voice chat feature any further. Every time I go to any hub or major area, I'm hearing music blasting or misc. things in people's backgrounds. Not to mention, I just got finished hearing some "cyber-thugs" repeatedly saying the "n-word" whilst PVP'ing. It's getting outrageous now. Please ZOS. PLEASE! Please ZOS. PLEASE! PLEASE INCORPORATE THE TEXT CHAT WITH THE UPCOMING UPDATE!

Everything I've seen you post designates with me so much and It's great to see like minded individuals... Just wanted to say thanks for being amazing. Haha

You're most certainly welcome. And yes, the feelings are mutual. It's always wonderful to come across a like-minded individual, as it provides a comfort (whether it may be large or small). :)
