As much as I want text chat, by now I have fully adapted to not having it.
I've gotten to VR14, made and banked my first half a million, have completed Dragonstar Arena(Multiple times), have been Emperor in PVP, made multiple guild connections and have several personal business relationships with some very amazing crafters.
This has all been done without using an in game text chat.
I do hope that those who do want text chat, find a way to improvise.
Get a better guild if stuff isn't happening when you're online. You deserve better!
You deserve to play the content that you wish to play!
But don't give me an excuse that text chat is the only way to get stuff done. Sure it's easier, but it's definitely not impossible without it, and unfortunately it's just not an option right now. I wish you all the best with ESO and I just hate to see so much effort thrown into the wrong direction when you could be making progress in game.
If there is a will, there is a way.
Learn to adapt and move on. Plenty of game to play and see.

I have no problem using VC either. No text chat really changes nothing for me. That doesn't change the fact that no text chat, in any form, alienates thousands of players.
I would really like to be able to chat as an option. I actually purchased the game this week and wasn't aware before getting it that there wasn't an option to be able to chat... I just had never imagined.
It's more immersive to me than voice chat, easier, lets me play in better settings and atmospheres and be able to talk to people in my house easier, lets me imagine my own voices for both myself and others instead of (trying not to be offensive) random teenagers and normal guys.
Also would be nice for purposes of roleplaying since to be honest my own voice is both kind of grating and I have a lisp and don't really fit what a cool sneaky khajiit would sound like.
If players can figure how to use text chat properly in other games, they can figure how to set up things using their consoles messaging options too, with out using voice.
Again, like I said, it's unfortunate that it isn't in game, but there is so much to do and so many ways to going about and doing them without an in gametext chat.

Brainstorm with us. What idea do you have to set things up using our consoles without using voice? Say I want to look for a group to run the daily pledge with.

The problem is the game is enjoyable but the lack of a WORKING group finder is turning people off as we speak. IF the tools already provided to us actually worked, then yes their arbitrary choice to remove text in consoles COULD have worked but we as human beings are inherently lazy and will take the path of least resistance. *
Ask for group members in each of those 5 guilds? With multiple voice channels each, trying to talk over other folk?]

If you really cared about progressing in this game, by now you should have 5 guilds that you honestly love and that are constantly active.
As well, if you do have 5 guiilds with say 400-500 players per guild, and about 30-50 are online at all times, then that's easily 120-200 people online at any given time.( You're telling me that 120-200 players online, noone is available? I suppose you've never tried. Oh and it's hilarious to grind out a 100-150 hour story but can't spend 20 mins asking guild mates to join up, huh?)
If you are not part of 5 guilds, I suggest that you start looking, this is only wasting your time by not having this.
This is an absolute must, to have 5 amazingly active guilds. How do you find them? Simple, ask for an invite. If that guild isn't what you're looking for, then look again and again and again. MMOS are about grinding, why not grind to find the perfect guild for yourself? And you know what's funny? It doesn't have to be a grind, if you only plugged in your mic once in a while and said hello every now and then. We talk to our parents and their odd friends, we say hi to our friends and people at the stores here and there. So why not in a game that you know everyone around you has the same interest? It makes zero sense.
As for joining groups in general. Don't. This is an obvious flaw in the game. Group Finder is full of crap and a waste of anyone's time. But you know this.
IF by now that none of you have several new friends from ESO on your PSN friends list, then you are the one not doing it right. OR whatever XBOX 1 has.
In no way shape or form do I blame ZoS for players lack of effort in finding a compromise. I blame the players.
Find people that you connect with, use the PS4 app on your phone to instantly message, it is much easier.
And for the 5 guilds that you finally have? Get on guild chat here and there and just say hello for once. It's not hard.
I'm not asking you to be a social butterfly, I'm asking you to move forward and enjoy the game for what it is.
If you look back a few posts, you'll see my achievements and what I've been able to accomplish.
Also, this is a handy tool that even can be used on a tablet or smart phone. To directly answer your question and if you MUST avoid the first things I said, then please do yourself a favor and just try this link.

It's either you adapt, or you can say bye bye to the game, because whether we all like it or not, text chat is not an option right now. I choose to adapt and enjoy the game that I paid for instead of crying about something I honestly haven't needed .
I am a 15 year MMO Vet, and I know the ins and outs of text chat. But, with all due respect, it's not coming.
If you must leave, leave, but if you stay, just know you're only wasting your time by not finding out how to do things.

And then miss a response because you've just switched channels to one of the other guilds?
Voice has it's place...but honestly, I don't think that place is as a LFG tool.
I could adapt and survive (to condense your view as I understand it), but should I have to? I'm loving ESO....and I haven't even made it to L50 yet (restricted game time, focus on crafting....and a tendency to create new characters after a short period of time). But my longevity in the game will be directly tied to the ability to communicate easily with others.
And for various reasons, voice just won't cut it.
Just wait until the cluster of a patch hits the console. Forcing health bars on , thats right , taking away the option to keep them hidden.
Some of the anti-text crusaders are already up in arms about not having the option to turn all that off.
Ironic isn't it , they want the options they want , just don't care about options others want.
Some people seem to be completely missing the point for the need of some form of in game text chat. It's not a matter of being able to adapt. It's a matter of not being able to adapt. Are you going to keep spouting the same nonsense to the hearing impaired, introverts, and the women I've heard being harassed and degraded and no longer want to talk or have left the game completely because a fair share of people playing the game have degraded to adolescent behavior since there are no mods in VC.
Even Blacksmurf doesn't mind some type of text chat as long as it isn't on screen. It being part of the social menu isn't a bad idea. One last thing. How does anyone already doing all the game has to offer with no problems, this includes me, have any right to tell the people that can't, because of one reason or another, adapt to a system that never thought of you to begin with.

Our health bars are already stuck on if we use a consumable. Nothing new for us.

Easily and enjoyably are two different things.
Some like to play an mmorpg without the screeching of idiots , hearing just the game , and still communicating with others.

You're kidding ?
Mother of God , if you all have issues still from launch , prepare to be Deliverance'd with this fubar of a patch.

Honestly, I fail to see how options can be a bad thing.
My play-time and environment aren't conducive to voice chat, and I also find it difficult to focus on what's going on in a noisy environment where multiple people are trying to talk over one another. Is that a ZOS issue? Only if they want my money.
If ZOS don't want my money, that's on them....not me. I'll take it elsewhere and find something that does meet my requirements / needs / expectations.
But I have plenty of time....I know I can run leveling instances without voice (while I've only run a few, nobody ever said boo). I have plenty of leveling and crafting to do, maps to explore and quests to run.

How do you go from can become hectic, sure in one comment to pretty easily in the other? Also why do you assume that everyone's expeirence is going to mirror your own?
Frankly I've tried more Guilds then I count. I've never in fact refused a guild invite, when not at 5. I have always looked over the roster and popped in Guild Chat at least a few times. I'm still looking for a guild. I've scoured the internet, looking for one, and done just about everything I can think of, including standing next to the Undaunted stating that I was looking for one. So I don't have a positive attitude because I have tried, and it's not working.
And technically, if you have the game, ZOS already has your money
