So, even though you are VR16, the rewards only scale to VR15, with the exception of the monster helm/shoulder. That needs to be changed.

6.66% would have given him 5 shoulders (rounded up from 4.88)

    @kobaal lol what ?

This is how you determine dropp rates with a given sample size (which is highly inaccurate in this case, but still what we will work with):
-out of 74 keys 9 dropped shoulders
-now we divide both numbers by 74 to determine the % rate for a shoulder with one key
    -74/74 = 1 (1 key) 9/74 = 8.2222 8 (repeating of course)
    -done.

Good work. Thanks for correcting me.

RNG sucks in this game...even if you lucky enough to get a helm and shoulder you are looking for, you then need to be lucky enough to get one with the armor type you are looking for....and then maybe if you are lucky enough the trait you are looking for?

Screw that I would rather not play the RNG game and just buy/craft something else, not worth it.

They should make a token npc where you can trade in the helms and shoulders you don't want for something you do actually need, like maybe at a higher trade ratio or something....

100+ days of doing something over and over and still not getting what you are looking for...

    SCREW THAT.

I got 5 shoulders on 10 keys with my first toon to hit V16. 1 Molag Kena (terrible trait), 2 Valkyn Skoria (ironically the exact same weight and trait of the two I already had, thanks ZOS), 1 Blood spawn (awesome trait), 1 Maw (terrible trait). I still have yet to get my main to v16 which has my big stash of keys, so we will see how that goes.

I hate these drop rates. I feel awful for a wizard buddy of mine who has yet to get one set while me and another buddy have 1 and 2 sets of stuff we wanted. I lost track of how many times we've run engine guardian and COA. Coupled with the possibility of getting the gear in a light, heavy, medium WITH a stupid stat like 9% sprint reduction.......... uuuuuuggggggg.

I'm all for some grinding to get the good stuff. But it's getting to the point if we don't complete our sets and move on to other stuff we want to do Taken King is looking mighty fine. It's not like we'll have nothing to do when we get the sets we want either. There's still things we want to move on to but we keep having to farm this stuff as much as possible to increase our chances.. in theory.

EDIT: OH AND what makes things worse is we farm these things and more often than not we are getting complete junk from the bosses. I can't count how many times Skoria's chest has given me a blue piece of @#$* not even worth deconstructing. If I was at least getting purples to melt down on a consistent basis I would feel better about it. We ran engine guardian the other day 3-4 times in one night and walked out with like 2 purples or some crazy thing (no helms of course). I mean not even a consultation prize!

Wow. Only Rosveen and Cuyler would actually pass 5th grade math.

    On topic:
The Drop rates aren't that bad, but the fact that these are RNG and BoP is dumb of course.
    Some solutions:
    1. Implement a narrow restriction of the possible traits that can drop.
ZOS has already demonstrated that they can do this with the IC 3 peice sets in literally less than a week in repsonse to a popular thread. There's no reason they can't do that here too.
    2. Make shoulders purchasable with a fixed number of keys(or alternative tokens) OR make them BoE

Ok, I'm going to splain this too you guys because I feels bad. I had a buddy go 0 for 60 once and when I am actually opening large numbers of keys I go about 1 for 2. We have good reasons to believe that drop rates are time dependent (server system clock). I'm not going too go into all of why this probably is but there are good programming reasons. Most of us who worry about these things are not sure if different people have different happy times or if happy times are global and some think your happy times are the same every day or they change. I personally believe that they are global and change each day as that has been my personal experience.

So, how is this information of service? Well, most of the time it's not. You kill bosses and mobs when you kill them and there is really no way to know if it's happy time or not. However, when opening key's, crafting writ bags, fish filleting, or refining mats, you can stack the odds. Did the first key give you a shoulders? No? forget about it and try again later. Yes? try a few more. If you get another empty the whole clip. It's as simple as that. Sure it's a pain as it may be a while before you get the first one to flip but let me tell you it is oh so worth it. Sorry about your 74 keys, especially since we all know drop rates for the new stuff are always higher for the first couple days to wet the appetites and then are super nerfed. About half my shoulders were the new sets on day 2. I expect this will change soon if it hasn't already.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

i jave 5x v15s and 1x v16. all have 22 keys. i opened the 22 on myv16 and got a much higher drop rate than you.

    2x molag kena
    2x valkyn skoria
    1x engine guardian
    1x spawn of methala
    2x nirienth
    1x bogdan nightflame

22 keys. i have always been pretty lucky with shoulders tho.
looking forward to ranking a new v16 each night this week and unlocking over 110 more keys.

You got screwed. I saved 12 keys, 11 gold and 1 silver. My silver key gave me a VR16 shoulders. My 11 gold keys got me 3 more shoulders. Yes, so 4/12 was my ratio, or 3/11 with gold keys. This is right around the expected rate of 33%.

So it seems like whats going on is that the drop rate is the same "chance" every time you open a chest. So you cant really take like 100 keys and get a solid percentage for a drop rate.

yes always save gold keys till u reach max level, for now wait till IC hits and level to v16 and then open them.yes same for the boxes u get from writs, KEEP them and dont open them till the new update hits.
