Templar leveling

Hello, I just started playing and was wondering how best to level a Templar. I am thinking I'll be either healing or tanking at endgame. My big question is how viable is a paladin style templar? I am new to support and like soloing but also teams. I focus mainly on pve. Any advice is welcomed and I'm going to be DC either Redguard or Brenton. Thanks for any help.

You can literally spam jabs all the way to max level....
I prefer magicka, but I know some stamplars with crazy dps.
Tank healing was viable pre 1.7, but I haven't tried since the update. I would hazard a quess that magicka is the way to go for Templar tanking.... Puncturing sweep to keep the self heals flowing and only blocking the heavy hitting attacks to conserve stam.

    F G R Junior - Templar AR26
This One Had Name Changed - Nightblade AR19
Fat Grim Streaker - Sorcerer AR15
    M12-GM - Guardians of the Twelve-GM - Crown Store Heroes - ETU
    RÀGE - R.I.P

So you would suggest focusing on either tanking or healing?

At this point I am focusing on healing/dps as it's easy to transition from heals to DPS with simple gear swaps. Switching from Healing/mag DPS to tanking requires a little more (champ points/attributes etc).
It comes down to preference really. All class/race combinations can perform any role, but not reach max effectiveness. I would go Breton because it will give you more diversity. You may focus on Tanking now and decide later you want to heal. Breton is probably going to make that change easier than redguard. Not that Redguards can't heal, but they have no passives that really add any value to a magicka build. Bretons on the other hand have passives that are useful for everything other than stam DPS. The extra spell resistance is nice for any role, the Magicka cost reduction is nice for any build and more max magicka is great for Tanking, Healing or Mag' DPS.

My original intent was to make him a healer. How would you recommend building him?

while leveling, everything into magicka... spam jabs will get you through pretty much the whole leveling process

But OT.. I've just hit 41 on my Templar and went with magicka all the way. Jabs will be your main ability. Blazing spear is pretty decent and will stun ONE enemy as well. Basically you'll be able to yolo the entire process using jabs and breath of life (Rushed ceremony morph). I did find backlash pretty useful on tougher enemies such as bosses. It will build up all the damage on them over 6 seconds and then release it with a 33% increase. You'll want to keep a Dawn's Wrath ability in your skill bar anyway so you rank that skill tree up, then you'll be able to get jesus beam, which basically disintegrates low health targets. Also, I'd use a resto staff as early as possible. At rank 20 you'll be able to get Steadfast Ward for extra protection, then it eventually can be morphed into Healing Ward, which will heal you 100% of the armour left once the spells finishes. Find a resto staff with the training trait and it will rank up in no time. I also crafted a set with training trait so my light armour ranked up quickly too. Light armour obviously doesn't give you as much protection, but Annulment/Harness Magic and all the passives you receive towards your magicka are worth it imo. Perhaps wear some heavy armour as well in case you decide to go that route later on. As long as you're wearing a piece it will still level up.
Gap closers are always handy to have, so you can get in range for your jabs. Focused charge will do the trick - and it can be used as an interrupt while stunning the enemy.

im a vet 10 Templar healer. from lvl 1-41 I put all stats into magicka after that I started putting stats into hp for more survivability. I also wear heavy armor for more survivability. because I don't like to die. radial sweep is the jabs you want it is the healing morph and it saved me more times than I can remember, more times than breath of life honestly. I also switch from resto to destro staff for dps when the time comes. also don't forget to mix up some heavy staff attacks to regen magicka

For healing and leveling should I use two resto staves or a resto and destructo staff?

You could try my battlemage build. Sure its not super min max but its fun if you like a mix of ranged and melee. It transitions into healing very easily.

    Early Templar leveling build

I'm kind of a small deal!
