Because there is currently no jewelry crafting in ESO. The only thing you can do is change the enchant on it.
Can't find the items you are looking for? Need a place to trade? We welcome ESO players of all platforms at ESO Trade, the home for trading of goods and services in the lands of Tamriel.

I'm sure jewelry crafting is something on the devs list for future content. The groundwork is there

Lol yea I don't think we'll need to wait until 2020. At least I hope not! :)

Just a theory but I'm thinking it will be a combination of blacksmithing and enchanting where you take an ore, melt it down, then add a trait gem or a glyph to enchant it

Jewelry crafting is on the list of features missing since day one, with alchemy poisons and barbershop.

Jeweler was the unfinished half of enchanting that they planned to add in beta and then scrapped.

If you have played since release and ever leveled enchanting back then it was a beeyotch to level because half of the crafting line got scrapped and what was left wasn't nearly enough to level the skill line.

Because diamonds are intrinsically worthless and the ornate trait is a culturally-approved lie that robs merchants of their hard-earned gold.

But a diamond would give your ring the impenetrable trait in ESO. You'd be more resistant to critical hits.

Jewelcrafting could be something done with blacksmithing, woodworking, or clothier.

    blacksmiths would make metal jewelry
    woodworkers would make wood jewelry
clothiers would make simple jewelry out of silks and straps of leather. Leather rings, bead necklaces.

Yes, the mechanics are different for what a "ruby" or Diamond" means between armor and jewlery...

And that is also a problem for just adding it to existing crafts. Not to mention that technically and historically speaking, the skill sets where very different...

Sure, a blacksmith worked with metal. Pounbding red hot iron into shape on an anvil with his hammer.
A goldsmith worked with metal too... pouring molten silver and gold into forms, and then cutting gems to set them.
Not at all alike, a blacksmith wouldn't know the first thing about all that...

And while it is true that some well doing blacksmiths did also learn a goldsmiths craft to make "fancy" ornate swords and gilded armor for noble customers, most blacksmiths throughout history merely made plain but functional blades, simple servicable armor, and outside wartimes, mostly horseshows and plowshares ;)

Thus it would make more sense for them to add Jeweler as seperate skill... the trouble there is, righs and amulats make just two things to craft and research, which looks rather lean to justify a whole skill line, even compared to woodworking (which at least has six things... both clothier and blacksmith have fourteen things to craft/research...)

They would have to add things to craft, to make jeweller viable.

I would love to see that!

A jeweller could for example also craft circlets, facemasks and crowns.

Then I always keep talking about wanting an alternate weapon option for destruction and restoration magic, only having staves to choose from is boring... I keep mentioning the idea of some "Spell Focus", which would merely have different looks and animations, but otherwise work just the same... stuff like dunmer holy symbols, breton ornate spellbooks, altmer meditation crystals, imperial red diamond replicas, khajiit moon amulets, argonian shaman rattles, barbaric gemmed skulls, whatever. That'd be four more things to craft.

And presto, jeweller suddenly has things to do without them even changing the game structure... though they could add more jwelery options as well. I'd love to see more slots for stuff like bracelets, anklets, earrings...

I gotta stop looking at those things...

Found this little tidbit in those 11/11/20 patch notes:

"The jewelry can be crafted up to the max player level, VR162 (don't worry, we still plan to do away with veteran ranks altogether), and VR162 jewelry will require 10,000 mats each. In order to get one crafting material, you must find 10 shards of that crafting material, which can then be combined to make a single complete material. The shards have a .5% chance of dropping from new "mystery chests" found inside all Mages Guilds, but you must first obtain 25 magical keys to open a chest. Magical keys can be obtained from hirelings, crafting writs, reaching Alliance Rank 50, or purchased for 1500 crowns each in the crown store."
