Naming Weapons.

What I loved about Skyrim was that you could name weapons when you enchanted them. I don't see why you would need to enchant it to name it but that's the way it was. Why can't we name things in ESO? I'd much rather have a 'Novacula' on my back than an Ebon Greatsword of Frost.

I'd imagine because there would undoubtedly be thousands of 14 year olds making maces called "***" and all kinds of weapons with racist/childish/sexual things. It would be near impossible to moderate that kind of thing, there would be endless complaints from players, and it'd be immersion killing to say the least. It simply wouldn't be worth it.

TL;DR Immaturity is why we can't have nice things.

As quoted above it would be a good idea but it would cause nothing but issues for the game as players would give weapons names that could cause offence and it could additionally see people being banned as a result.

To both of your guys: We're already allowed to name our characters whatever we want.
Additionally, the weapon's name can only be viewed in the inventory and the various interfaces related to it. Therefor, under normal circumstances it would be impossible to see what someone else has named their items.

    I'd be all for this.

I'd love this, all those many years ago when I first played a TES game (Morrowind) I had a character called Delvet; I always had an item of clothing called "the pants of delvet".... I miss my pants!

Yeah, it'd be great for RP. If you wanted to be a Godly DK you could call your breeches 'Dragonhide' or something.

This should definitely be a thing! Maybe only after turning it purple, you can name it. it should become soul bound than it wouldn't matter what you name it. If those 14 year old want to name their maces molag's ****. But earning the item name change would be cool.

Naming weapons is IMO small effort thing for ZOS and might mean a lot to big part of players.

That's a good point, raised by a number of people. Once you name a weapon it would become account bound so you can put it in your personal bank but not a guild bank. And you can sell it to NPCs but not players.

True, that is if ZOS didn't implement a censored system that would prevent you from using certain words, and to go further not allow numbers for those people who will undoubtedly try using numbers in place of letters to abuse that weapon naming system.

That's my solution for the immaturity. Shouldn't need to moderate that.

I also would like for this idea to expand to not just weapons, but also armor.
Possibly jewelry. Though since we can't craft jewelry, naming it doesn't give you that sense of ownership you get with something you crafted yourself.

This simple little system would create game immersion if done with the censorship.

Or as @Paazhahdrimaak and @CidxLucy suggested you shouldn't be able to trade the equipment after you name it. Then ZOS would have no need to censor.

So binding, or bound on name? It's the same with the dye system. Once you dye your armor, you cannot trade/sell. It's bound to that character.

Except I think named equipment should be Account and not Character bound.

I actually would like to have the ability to name a weapon or armor but tied to crafting as well. For me simply enchanting a piece of gear to be able to name it wouldnt make it any more unique and special than a crafted white item.

In my opinion the best way to add the feature to name a weapon and gear is to introduce it with like Mastery Ranks for crafting of some sort. Naming a weapon should be tied to the crafter instead or the user. This way certain crafters can actually gain some sort. Kinda like the famous Japanese sword makers became well known because they were able to craft high quality katanas.

i remember in morrowind, oblivion, and also skyrim we could name weapons and i loved it, it's truely shamefull we cant do it here in eso, but i agree that it would be hard to moderate the names, but it might "Might" work if we could put the names we want for weapons into a request form of sorts and request if that name is allowed ... :) maybe?
then just wait a few weeks and you get permision to name that weapon or armor piece.

people name thier characters and name thier guilds and even pets so why cant we name our weapons and armors?

That would be quite impractical but it would definitely moderate it well, haha. It would just be easier to make named equipment account bound.
