Cant get pledge of mara to work

Me and a friend have tried everything to get the pledge of mara to work. We have tried two different shrines of mara, we have teied logging in and out. Tried in a group and not in a group. Not sure what else there is to try or if we are doing something wrong. He has the pledge and is using it on his consumables bar. We are on xbox. Any ideas?

Kavatchian✭✭✭Its going to sound stupid.... but neither of you are married to anyone else correct. He's doing right by having it on his consumables bar. You both need to be right next to each other, and he needs to use it like a consumable while looking at you. It may take a few tries.North America | Xbox One | Prince of Evil
