Healing Templar , crap dps. Help?

deltascout112
Okay. So I have been stamina heavy armor 2h / sword and shield , until vr5 when I got this stupid idea that i should heal for my buddy since he was the tank and it would be easier to get groups going since all we needed was a couple dps. That's all fine and dandy, I am a new healing bossing through vet dungeons with out breaking a sweat. BUT. My dps and solo play sucks so bad, I want to respec every time I'm not Ina dungeon, I am so squishy and insta dead if I fight any kind of gold bar. My dps is just horrid. I am using 5 light 2 med , resto staff destro staff. And my healing set again is fine! I haven't had any problems with that. I just need to find a alternate way to dps. I am using the seducer set right now as I am researching traits to make more armor seeming as I had to drop black smithing for squishy stuff. I am 35 magicka and 20 health. Mage boon. I've seen a lot of builds having healing set and then a sword and shield dps bar, well I have around 8.7k stamina. I really don't see a use for stamina anything right now.... I'd use 2 abilities and be out of stamina. So if you have a viable full healer build with a dps bar that can kill a ton faster then please let me know. Other wise I'm going to try a 5 med 2 heavy stamina 2h dps build

Ok.. why the two pieces of medium armour with the light?

Anyway.. If you want extra dps you could try going dual wield and use the skills Reflected light, punctuaring sweep and dark flare as your bread and butter.

    OR...

Using a destruction staff and mix in an elemental blockade with your rotation or something.

I personally use a mixture of magnus and twilight if i remember all light.

wearing a sword/board doesn't necessarily mean you use stamina, a lot use the shield for the extra armour and extra large enchantment slot

sword and board/dual wield and puncturing sweeps will take care of most non dungeon encounters

So you need more dps to be able to kill pve mobs fast? I'm a templar healer, wearing 5 light 1 heavy 1 medium, Healer and Seducer sets, so as you can see, not aiming much to deal great dps. While dual wield is equipped on my bar I have around 1800 spell damage, my magicka pool is 35k. With all these stats, when I use combo of Dark flare+Vampire bane + Radiant Oppression I'm able to get around 12k dps, when it crits I can even hit 18-20k dps. That's more than enough to kill any single regular mob.

You can enhance your dps by wearing mix of Martial Knowledge, Cyrodiil Light, Magnus gift sets to get as much spell damage as you can. Then also invest your Champion Points in Thaumaturge.

When I was healing dungeons I only used two DPS skills, Blazing Spear(mobs) and Radiant Destruction(bosses). These two spells worked great together.

While soloing, I would add in Puncturing Sweep and Sun Fire. A couple hits from Sun Fire and then a round of PS to clear pretty much any mob. World bosses would get the RD when they are lower on health.

Those are some of the best Templar DPS spells out there and work really well together. All while using a Resto staff on both bars so you can get the heals from those as well.

If you want to be a healer (and that's great I am one too!) you will want to focus on magicka based skills for your damage-skills also. I would not worry about stamina skills for the most part. The higher your magicka (primary importance), and the higher your spell damage (secondary importance) the higher your spells will hit for. This is great, because it also means your healing will restore for more.

For me personally; dealing damage I usually use:
    • Blazing Spears Aedric Spear
    • Flame Reach/Reflective light. Destruction Staff/Dawn's Wrath
    • Structured Entropy Mages Guild
    • Blazing Shield Aedric Spear
    • Magelight Mages Guild
    • Shooting Star Mages Guild

Now this is primarily for when facing multiple enemies at once (e.g. in Craglorn).

With a good group in a dungeon I can use this to heal as well, replacing Blazing Shield with Breath of Life, or Repentence if the group is really competent. For single boss battles I'll place Radiant Destruction in there somewhere, usually for Blazing Spears or even Blazing Shield/Breath of Life/Repentence if I don't have to worry about healing.

Just remember: magicka based skills, and focus on increasing your maximum magicka and spell damage (and spell critical too if you like) and that will help. Also using light armour and becoming skilled with all its passives will help too. Don't forget to block though, you'll need it in all light armour at the moment, though it's getting a boost with the next update.

Ive been tweaking the same idea for a build, this is what Ive come up with, under geared and with about 75-80 CP's total

when I heal dungeons, I have 1 bar dedicated to all heals, it's usually set up something like this

    Resto Staff - Precise
    Regeneration
    Repentance
Channeled Focus (dropped in AoE's or just outside of them can save lives, useful in pve or pvp)
    Breath of Life
    Inner Light
    Ultimate- Remembrance

    Inferno Staff- Precise
Blazing Spears (to give teamates stamina, and aoe stuns to escape)
Pulsar (Mob control, do not spam, used sparingly)
Structured Entropy (8% max health boost, dmg and heals)
    Breath of Life
    Inner Light
    Ultimate- Reviving Barrier

sometimes I use Ritual of Rebirth on the tougher situations and swap out Pulsar w/ Repentance, and add 2 Daggers for more Magicka Recovery or Spell Dmg.

    AoE Farming/Delves/World Bosses/Exploration

    Bar 1 Master Ice Staff

    Puncturing Sweep (morphed to heal)
    Blazing Spear (morphed to stun)
Pulsar (morphed to reduce max health by 10%, works on some pve bosses, and groups of enemies as well)
    Structured Entropy
    Inner Light
Ultimate- Meteor (about to morph it, was using Reviving Barrier and Solar Disturbance before)

Bar 2 - Single Target DPS
Dual Wield- Torugs Pact Daggers w/ Precise

    Vampires Bane
    Dark Flare
    Radiant Oppression
    Breath of Life
    Inner Light
Ultimate- Soul Strike (Reviving Barrier, pvp Support tree Ultimate, for more survivability)

If you find yourself squishy, make sure you rock 7 pieces of light armor, try using Dampen Magic (light armor move morphed), or a Resto Staff over a Destro Staff and using Regeneration or Ward Ally (when your health is low for max effect) over Pulsar.

It's all subject to opinion really, with my single target bar, the rotation is as listed, you should 2-3 hit any V12 trash mobs, if you work both bars right you should be able to break down mobs health quickly and finish them off one by one with radiant oppression/execute.

I use Martial Knowledge 5 pc, Torugs Pact 2 pc, and 2 rings of cyrodiils light when I Solo

I use Seducer 5pc, Willows path 4 pc, cyrodiils light 2 pc when I heal

using master ice/resto stalves for now, and Dual Wield to get seducer/willows path.

Haven't fully geared my V14 yet, but working on it, I imagine this will change a bit when I get all the pieces to the other sets Im hunting. and PVP skills are a bit different as well but I wont get into that.

See I was using dark flare and vamp bane, but I just had crap spell damage. I didn't do much in pve or pvp. Would get smoked in 1 second in pvp, groups of enemies *** me in pve solo content. Cause I can't just heal dungeons... I'm vr8 now. I switched to medium armor stamina dps with sword board and 2h. I really wish I had a good second bar to do solo content... :/ and I don't have many traits researched in clothing cause I was all blacksmithing until now. Like I seen videos of people using dark flare, then Jesus beam right away rinse and repeat. But I think I'd need a armor set with +magicka and a second with + spell dmg. Think you can add me on xbox and maybe go over some things?

I find the combo dark flare+vamp bane quite effective against single target. The first gives you empowering (+20% on next hit) and the second - additional critical rating. Usually dark flare itself hits quite well. Anyway, every mob that survive it will get Radiant Oppression to finish him off. As for the groups of mobs, you can use spear shards along with elemental ring.
I have another option to deal with a big group of mobs or world bosses. This way I can survive in any battle. The skill bar I use for this is as follows: Rune Focus, Pyrifying Ritual, Puncturing Sweep, Breath of Life, Inner Light. And I have Sword and Shield equipped on this bar. So, to stay alive just cast and recast when needed Purifying Ritual an Rune Focus and spam Puncturing Sweep from the block and you never fall down. The downside of this option is that you won't do a lot of DPS and it would take long to kill the boss. In this case you would need regen drinks to sustain your resources.
All this advices can't help you in PVP or if you wanna play as a magicka dps in Dragonstar Arena or Trials, i.e. the instances that require a hight level of dps. But you just need to decide whom you like to play most: if you like to be a healer, the effective one would be magicka based light armor build. But you won't be doing great dps. If you like to be dps, then it's better to go into medium armor stamina build and take 2hander/bow. But it this case you will be off-heal at maximum and won't do the top healing.

Sorry, I'm a PC player, so I can't add you to play together.

I gave up on dps for now. I went with battery healer build from deltia. It's very effective. I am having. Zero trouble healing vet dungeons so I'd like to get into some dragon star if I could find a group! The dang group finder tool sucks!!! No one uses it or it just doesn't work

Until the devs revise completely templar's offensive skill lines playing it as a dps won't worth. I'm personally have 2 different characters: one as a pure healer and the second is a stamplar. As for Deltia's build, it's indeed effective though I'd replace some skills, but it's my personal preferences.
Yes, there's something wrong with a group finder. It actually works, but seems that few people really use it, that's why it's almost impossible to autoinvite someone in the group using it. Luckily on PC we have a text chat to look for the group and I'd say it's the most common and quickiest way to find a group. Another option - try enter in some guild so you could regularly do the content together.

I'm currently a battery Templar and I heal outstanding. I'm trying to find a guild for vet dungeons and end game content but can't find one. I have a post open to find one for me and my buddy who is the best tank I play with.

stack magika. inner light + channeled focus + structured entropy with breath of life for panic heals keeps me virtually unkillable, keeps my crit above 50%, gives me higher max magika, gives me a magika regen level that means i hardly ever need a potion, no matter how long the fight, and keeps Major Sorcery up for 20% inc. spell damage. Puncturing sweep damages in cone area in front of you, returns 40% of the damage done as health to you, and has a chance to knockback for harder mobs or to interrupt a heavy strike. Blazing Spear for AoE damage and stun, and Radiant Oppression a.k.a jesus beam which stacks off total magika, and at 25k+ magika hits like a mack truck, esp on mobs with low health. Go dual wield for extra crit and weapon damage.

Having said all that, stand the dps numbers of a templar whose role is primarily healing against a dedicated nightblade dps and there is a massive gap.
