Are you using in-game mail system? Cause if your using Xbox One or PS4 that is a setting feature within the console itself not through the games mechanic.

I understand people wanting these weird characters in their name, but I find them utterly annoying. I can tab complete their name when whispering, but it keeps saying the player is unknown.. so really, less odd characters the better.

English has been butchered by everyone....including the English.
Its simplicity, versatility and adaptability is its strength lol.

But MEH, if you are going to offer a product in different countries, you may at least want those countries players to be able to communicate easily in their native way too. IMO.
English is supposed to be a global alternative rather than a local replacement.

there not "weird characters" though, its their language. this is 2015, most programs ship with alot of languages by default, i know cause i have a wife that speaks slovak as her native tongue, makes things alot easier for her. translation isnt the easiet of things to do,especially ones that arent latin based. as for whispering to them theres add ons that make chat quite simple, the one i use auto tabs the last person you msg in chat and you can scroll through them, the name escapes me atm while im at work.

The languages that are supported are supported because those languages have a significant market to sell to. There are significantly more potential players that speak English, German, or French compared to Turkish in the market. Then you have to consider that they would have to pay translators to reformat the entire game in a different language just for a niche audience.

Nobody is asking for special characters in names (even though many characters I can't write on my keyboard are already allowed thanks to French and German translations). We just want to be able to use them in chat, for example in national guilds.

That goes hand in hand with translation though. You have to translate the game in order for it to recognize those symbols.

I play on PC EU and while my main language is English; I agree that all characters should be available if it inhibits a group of players from properly communicating. Players shouldn't have to start misspelling or "improvising" words due to missing characters, lol.

Also, when a company says the game is supported in English, German and French they mean the games entire content is available translated. To make this clear, making additional characters available is not the same as translating the entire game for that language.

Not at all. You can make the system recognize a turkish (for instance) symbol without having to translate the game into turkish.

The developers seem to be struggling to support the few characters they do allow outside of the US English character set. Ever since launch we have been seeing endless problems with "strange" characters in names. Asking them to complicate matters even further might not be the wisest thing to do.

Then they should actually just restrict the characters available for use in character creation.

Why restrict anything in the char selection? That has nothing to do with the OPs request.

Because my post has nothing to do with the OPs request. It's a reply to what I quoted, lol. Read a few of the posts just above!

Maybe when reading you are confusing characters(Letters) with characters(Players). I can see how it can sound weird this way, lol.

Yeah, one or the other ! :)

Because saying "don't ask them to implement this feature because they'll mess it up" is... a rather desperate argument :D

They should fix this issue with characters' name (is that technically sooo complicated ?) and allow the use of major letters in many non-english languages in chatbox too.

It's really just a few characters that aren't working, so I wonder if it would be possible to just manually add the non-functioning codes to the game's fonts so players have access to them.
