@ZOS: Playing Eso, a review.

Dear ZOS,

I have been playing mmos for the last 20 odd years. Pretty hardcore and elitist in high school and college untill I took a wife, kids and job to the knee :smile: Play(ed) GW 1 & 2, WoW, Aion, Rift, AA and offcourse the Elder Scroll Series. I didn't join Eso at beta like I do with most games because of the reviews back then, but when it went btp I could no longer resist the call.

So here is what the experience has been like for me. I can only hope that this help you harvest the raw potential that's hidden in Eso. At the least I can join my voice to the many others already posting on the forums.

The client:
Might be personnal but got some trouble with installing the client. Ended up repairing 3 times and reinstalling once. Being located in Belgium where providers limit the data access that means it cost me real money cause I exceeded my limit multiple times. Not your doing, but still worth considering.

After all this I still have issuess with endless loading screens, the game just logging me out midfight etc.

Gameplay:
The game is beautiful as was to be expected although a bit dark at times. Luckely some nice addon exists. I came accross some bugs and ui errors and that's ok. These things happen. What I found dissappointing was that when I turned to the forums I realised the same bugs have existed for over a year... not very reassuring as it comes to devs involvement.

So here's the experience up to now. I get home from work, play some with the kids, do some chores when I finaly can sit down and relax for a few hours. I decide to play Eso and get stuck in an endless loading screen. Having to force shut the client via the taskmanager on my pc. When I finaly get to play (loading times are way too long, cycling through all my alts for the mats in the mail takes over an hour some times, bye bye game time), I get hassled by bugs (topling charge bug eg) or npcs that won't spawn. Forcing me to restart/postpone the quest and do something else. Not very relaxing up to know is it? :)

Pvp:
I'm a dedicated pvp player so I might be a bit biasd when it comes to this in all honesty :)
Couldn't wait to pvp so joined the non vet campaign quite early. L20ish iirc. Offcourse I got eaten as to be expected as I wasn't familiar enough with the game mechanics and tells. Been arround for a while, know the drill, so kept at it. Got better, only to still getting eaten by alts whos main has accumulated hundreds of CP.
I mean a player caught offguard (meaning no selfbuffs on) by a nb with snipe-la-poison injection-la-critical rush shouldn't be at 99% hp. As stated by many others including Sypher and Deltia iirc CP have no place in the non vet campaign!

The vet campaign is even worse as I stand no chance against a player 3+ranks above me. I could stay alive for over 1min 1vs1 on my V3 temp vs a V14 nb but my dmg wasn't even tickling him. Meaning I have to abandon pvp and play pve till at least V12ish to actualy enjoy it. That's not how I wanna play and that's not how you stated Eso would play. For comparison, I have 3 L80s in GW2 all lvld through pvp. Only 20ish % of the map unlocked and no dungeon done what so ever.Still they have all exotic gear.

The grind:
Bringing me to the grind. Yes I know, it was worse before. But still V1 to V14 is a long way. Especialy if you want to get it over with to enjoy pvp. No worries you say where doing away with the VR ranks. Then why up it to V16?! Main reason I quit WoW, Rift and the likes was because of the vertical progression and the fact that players with less game time will never be at the same footing as players with alot of game time. (o how I miss college :P ) Eso seemed to promote skill over gear grind which was what attracted me the most but did we get...

Conculsion:
Eso is a good game with the potential to be great. You are at a fork in the road. I've seen it in many other games. Please listen to your community, communicate with the players, say why you're (not) doing things, make us understand, make us feel heard, make us feel like we matter. If not like in all other games that took the wrong road, the player base will drop to a min.

Kind Regards,
Eas.

    I didn't get a chance to read the whole thing but based on the amount of alts you have it sounds like you enjoy playing. Good thing this wasn't another one of those posts where someone claims to have a PhD and makes numerous spelling and grammatical errors while whining so badly the post itself contains enough drama and fabrication it could be a lifetime movie network mini movie.

    I hit vr1 about a week ago. Play for maybe 2 hours a day and that's mostly pvping. Currently sitting a quarter way into vr3. The vet leveling seems to be just fine by my accounts. If I was to sit down and hammer out quests, I think I'd hit the cap in two weeks tops. I've only done the first section of caldwells silver to boot. :D I think you're mistaken about the gear vs skill too. Pvp is absolutely dependent on gear with skill being but a small piece of the puzzle. :)

    Just like a bunch of other games, leveling will be toned down more and more as end game or even leveled content becomes more available. Drawing out the leveling experience hundreds of hours is a stop gap until they can create new content. Unfortunately, due to the console launch, the whole concept of adding new content was delayed about a year longer than most other MMOs. Now that the consoles launched and the game is officially done with development, they can concentrate on more content and will steadily reduce the leveling time and effort. Patch 2.1 already makes huge strides in this regard as the questing in VR will net 50% more xp and the amount of XP required to level in vet is being reduced by 15%. That with the XP potions are all indicators that ZOS is trending in the direction of less time leveling and more time ready to buy new DLC content patches.
    I'm kind of a small deal!

    Well said.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno, @ZOS_JessicaFolsom, @ZOS_Brianwheeler,

    Why not change Champion Points to only apply to Alts once that alt has hit V1. With being able to put CP into a low level Alt it makes everything too easy. PVE is a joke to go through, PVP you are wrecking everyone else with no CP. You don't start earning CP until you hit V1 so why should your character be able to access it prior to that? IMO CP has no business being on an Alt under V1. This is the main reason I don't play my Alts. There's no challenge too it.

    With this change, you don't need to setup a NON CP Campaign for Non Vet Levels. You could create just Non CP Campaigns for the Vet Levels for those who want to fight people with skill, not grinders who've been rewarded for grinding CP.
