To have claimed that Molag Bal schemed to increase his army by releasing his abominations on Tamriel, and the one to lead this charge was going to be none other than Mannimarco- motivated by the promise of unbridled power. Molag Bal requests Namira's support in this scheme. Namira seeing an opportunity to become empowered agrees and casts a spell over the new vampires by giving them pale skin- the affect that occurs when a flesh creature has dwelled in the darkness away from sunlight for many years. The pale skin allows vampires to resist the sunlight and exist in the day, but would also make vampires easier to spot. After all she is called the Great Darkness. Azura becoming aware of Molag Bal's plans by Hircine's betrayal, whom was first approached by the god of schemes, decides to double-cross Molag Bal, because vampires would begin to outnumber the werewolves, and Hircine couldn't have this. Azura needing to counter what Namira has done, then casts her own light, the Azura Star, over Tamriel to increase the affect of fire on the undead and cleanse the land of the wicked.

After revealing Molag Bal's scheme to Azura, Hircine returned to Molag Bal (who doesn't know yet that he's been betrayed) and demanded that before he would help the god of schemes, that Faolchu be resurrected. Molag Bal agreed to this demand and a new pack of werewolves were soon to be created- more powerful than ever.

Azura not entirely trusting Hircine and well aware of the circumstances under which Molag Bal's soulless prisoners are tormented, she blesses a person -you- with the power of the Azura Star. She instructs you that you will have to die to fulfill the prophecy, but not to worry, her power will allow you retain your consciousness and not become mindless like the others. Before you escape you are to place either the star or the moon on the sky shard that powers the portal to escape Molag Bal's realm. The star or moon you place determines whether the path you take will be one towards light or darkness, leading to a different story path. Once Azura's power is placed on the sky shard it releases a pulse of energy throughout the soul shriven, re-awakening every lost warrior, mage, and thief from Molag Bal's control. She speaks to you instructing you to fight for her and be granted great power through your journey that will become your Soul Magic and later access to the constellations. You are to destroy all of Molag Bal's minions throughout Tamriel and you may regain your soul back. What state you regain your soul in will be up to you- a dark soul or a light soul. This can lead to possibilities of not only playing as a hero but a menace to Tamriel as well, furthering Bal's plans.
