It would've been nice if we were limited in professions & guilds.

XarxesTheScribe
It's be nice if we couldn't undertake every crafting profession in the game. This is how it is in most MMOs, and it helps boost the economy, since you would obviously have to seek items from other people. Also, it's just better knowing you have a chosen profession. Of course, you would have to have an economy and good trade system to work, and ESO has neither.

Also, being able to join every guild in the game kind of sucks. Mages acting as mercenaries in the fighter's guild, and vice versa. It would have been better, imo, if you had to choose. Obviously, it wouldn't work how they developed it, since more guilds will be released later, and almost every person in the game will most likely join the DB when it's released. Not to mention you have to join them all for achievements/trophies.

Still, it would have been fun.

At least since Morrowind it has always been possible to join every faction. Even multiple Great Houses were possible if worked right. Of course in Morrowind there were some consequences for such actions but joining anyone who asks is at least true Elder Scrolls canon.
Scura di Notte - Altmer Nightblade (gear)
Lalin del Sombra - Bosmer Sorcerer (alchemy/enchanting)
    Angevin Sarkany - Bosmer Dragonknight
Alkemene Velothi - Dunmer Warden (Morrowind)
Sanna yos'Phalen - Altmer Sorcerer (provisioning)
    Cosima di Mattina -Altmer Sorcerer
    Naria Andrano - Dunmer Templar
Luca della Serata - Redguard Templar

    You still get to choose.

However now you have to actually take responsibility for your own choices and not be "led" by the standard MMO.

    I like this one better.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I like the current profession system. You can opt to only do 2 professions to satisfy your immersion, and I can do all of them. We both win.

I don't know... I like the current system. I understand where you're coming from OP, but I like that I can be self-sufficient while also being able to supply all of the crafting needs for my small group of real life friends who play. I can see how having it more limited could make for a more robust trading economy, though.

I will say that back at PC launch I didn't understand that you could be in both the Fighters Guild and the Mages Guild. For some reason, even though in previous TES games you weren't limited to only one, I figured that I had to choose between them. It took me a while to join either because of that (well, probably until I hit level 7 or 8, so not that long), and I was then surprised that I still had the quest giver on my compass for the other one.

I think this is one of the ways where the TES aspect conflicts with the MMO system.

I like that I can do everything if I choose, but others who are not into crafting don't have to do it.

Sorry I disagree, games should add content not remove it, this is great in that I can do everything but to do everything you have to really put in the hours

Im torn, here is an idea though. Keep the current system as in. But add a 'Master' level to each craft. And you can only 'Master' in 2 crafts. And have 'Master' perks for those.

nah, i like have my main able to do wathever i want, in other MMOS me and my wife had tons of alts maxed level and maxed crafts so we would be able to craft anything we wanted (each character on diferent professions), i like than i can do at least the most important things for me on one character. Anyway i think is not enougth skill points for everything in your skill lines so even having 50 on all skilltrees u are not able to get all the skills and passives, so even with the wide availability u have to choose wisely (with possibility of mistakes)

If it was limited people could still choose to do all the professions and join all the guilds, it would just be through multiple characters. This wouldn't force people to seek items from others, they could do it all with alts.

I like it much better that I can choose to do as many or as few things as I want on each of my characters and would not want that to change. People who want these kinds of limitations are free to play their way and set their own.

No initiative will boost the economy of an MMO unless it has an effective trading system open to all. This game does not have that.

Besides which, it is within the established ES IP to have no restrictions on professions and guilds.

If professions were limited I would still cover all professions through all my characters as I do in any other MMO.

The present system allows maximum flexibility which is a good thing in any MMO. Just because the game allows you to join all professions and guilds does not mean you have to. The option is there if you wish to take advantage of it.

I really like the current system. You have the option to choose all professions on one character, but you are really stretching your time and skill points thin if you do all crafting from jump. Most people will just choose the crafting professions they want or need most and do the others at a later level, which does mean you have to get those items from a different source until that point. I hated WoW's 'choose two' system.

This is not true. You can max all crafts at around 140 skill points and still have more than enough to spend your other 150 ish skill points on combat abilities and passives.
