I plan on having a go at a guild trader one day but if this is the way it is then it's not worth it, may as well just foster an environment that encourages a healthy guild store.

No, losing bids are refunded.
I really just do not see an issue on XBOX. You have to put forth a little effort. IMO the "effort" part is why most people want a AH. Spend just a little time and you find good prices for things you need want.
Buying traders is very hyper competitive. I see no issue with this. Sometimes a guild loses and sometimes they win. Makes guilds thinks of new ways to get buyers and sellers. Makes guilds considers new spots or going after the old one. This system is so more dynamic and fun than a boring old AH.
