The Pacifist Challenge!

After leveling a character to v14 then another 2 to v6 and v1, I thought to myself: "What's a good challenge that this game can offer and is 100% possible." Then it hit me. Tamriel is a harsh world, but among it's stalwart defenders are those that find it difficult to kill their fellow Men/Mer and beasts. So I'm going to be starting this challenge.

Pacifist Challenge Rules:
-You can not kill a single creature, person or critter in the world. You can check the Achievement tab in the journal, under "General" to keep track of your slayed creatures (must stay at 0)
-Attacking an NPC, creature or critter nullifies your challenge(You're a pacifist, you don't fight unless you absolutely need to). However, you can go into combat and blocking is allowed.
-You can not do quests that involve killing to obtain an item from the npc/creature.
-You can not complete quests that inadvertently results in the death of an NPC or creature.
-You may begin a quest if it gives you an item that allows you to complete the quest without killing (disguises and whatnot).
-Crafting writs and other daily quests are allowed as long as they follow the above rules.
-Crowd Control abilities are allowed as long as they do not harm/kill the NPC or creature being rooted.
-Joining the Fighters and Mages guild for the persuasion and Intimidate dialogue options is allowed as long as the chosen option does not result in an NPC death.
-Challenge is complete when you achieve Vet 1 with 0 kills along all your "Slayer" achievements.
I realize that this severely limits the quests you can do, but remember this is a challenge for a reason.

As you will not be getting EXP for killing monsters this may take a long while to level up. I welcome any challengers to try this out, but be prepared for a long grind. and careful planning of your surroundings.

If anyone is interested in taking this challenge down with me, I will be playing an Argonian on Ebonhart pact named Handles-The-Plants (Formally bank alt). If anyone has any questions leave a post here or hit me up in game @lone_wdf. Thank you for taking the time to read, all comments are appreciated and I wish you all good luck and good day!

Edit, 8/19/2015
Decided to record a bit of progress on reaching level 7, shortly after completing 4 quests in Stonefalls, a days worth of writs (plus certification) and just finishing Bleakrock Island. (Forgive my atrocious paint skills)

Good luck with that. Let me know how it went when you hit VR1 two years from now.

I tried doing something like this with a nightblade long ago. I crafted a set of armor with the exploration trait and snuck thru zones running when ever I accidentally drew aggro. I got to level 13 or so and decided it wasn't working being in a level 30 zone being such a low level toon. But that was before crafting writs could give you XP. Unfortunately I have no spare toon slots so this challenge isn't for me unless ZOS relents and increases the slot count.

You can build health, armor and whatnot to keep yourself alive, or build a stamina like set to give you sprint reduction. Your class may not matter as much since you will most likely not be gaining skill exp beyond reading books.

I was going to suggest teaming up with someone to be their "pocket healer"- you could do all the quests, never kill a thing, but still get all the loot, xp and achievements.

The other person would be free to put all of their efforts into dps and never worry about dying.

That could be a kinda fun duo, but not *exactly* pacifist.

I've got 2 lowbies in EP if you ever tweak your ethics and want to try ;p

I h ave a Breton who doesnt do quests or fight. She is a gatherer, thief, ransacker, but nothing more. It's actually fun trying to find ways of getting around stuff.Only problem is getting to zones you are forced to finish all quests before it opens for me.That's the only snag,if I was to take a challenge.

This challenge is for those that have a good understanding of the game and have completed at least one faction.

There is an option to skip coldharbour after you have completed it with one character already.

I guess as long as it does no harm/kill the npc you're rooting It would be allowed.

Is it even possible to level to VR1 without engaging in any combat? You can only explore so much, and there aren't many pure fetch quests.

I'm curious to see how far you get, but if you got out of the 20s without killing a single thing i'd be impressed.

Lockpicking chests and crafting writs. That's all that would be left. It would take a very, very long time.

I'm aware this will take a long time, but this is something new to try for myself and anyone else who wishes to try, or just to make a challenge of their own. The fun of the game is a good challenge, yes?

(When time comes, and I mean a looooong time), you will not be able to get to vet zones doing this anyways. You will be stuck at coldharbour or even before that because to be able to progress into the next zone, you would have to kill to complete the Main quest.

Even if you're v1 and end up being stuck on your 5th zone, it will take you 1 year doing writ quests just to level 1 veteran rank.

I have one character that only walks everywhere. When riding, the mount walks. I think he's at level 20. I don't play him much.

This challenge of yours sounds like fun. I might give it a go sometime.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

A few of those daily Cyrodiil PVE quests are collect/fetch quests. But would a pacifist go there? :)

Somewhat counter-intuitive and maybe against the spirit of the thing, but Scouting missions in Cyrodiil don't require you to kill anything either.

Impossible ... no ability to quest without kills

    Explore XP won't cut it
Everyone knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater - how at first it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust and the hunger to breathe. And then the panic sets in when you begin to think that you won't be able to breathe - and finally, when you take in air and the anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood.

Theoretically, if you used tricks and shortcuts to get to the higher level zones and healed other players engaging in combat a lot, I think it would be possible. It certainly wouldn't be easy. But definitely doable. Even without healing, there are little things you could do for XP, but it would take a very long time.

Well, given that each chest gives you more XP than a mob kill, you could level all the way to VR1 just from chests and exploration XP if you're good at finding chests. You wouldn't even have to pick up any quests. It would definitely be a long haul, but it would be doable for sure.

Most of the quests on Bleakrock Isle and a few in Bal Foyen can be completed without killing.
    At level 6 writs unlock
At level 10 cyrodiil unlocks. I will consider scouting missions fair game as they do not result in npc deaths. You're gathering intelligence and nothing more, nothing in the scouting mission dialogue is implied that the Pact will attack them.

And to answer Qyrk's statement, yes vet level zones will be off limits due to the main story quest requiring you to kill...a lot. That is why the challenge is only v1 and not v16. As I didn't have much time to play yesterday I will be posting screenshots of my progress in a moment.

It's certainly one way of avoiding being ridiculously over-leveled every time you enter a new zone  !

Best of luck to anyone who takes this on. I don't think I have the patience to level that slowly, and I'm talking as someone who has been playing since PC launch but whose highest character is only nudging 36...

You could, in theory, wait until the spot you're supposed to scout out has already been taken over by your side...the quest doesn't go away once you grab it; I've done that a few times. But that would be subject to the whims of everyone else in Cyrodiil, and at that point you might be better off foregoing it entirely and trying to farm chests.
