Magic based melee weapon?

Will we ever get this? People are using dual wield on magic builds...very sad.

    Personally I would much rather see Spellcrafting than an alternative to Dual Wield or One-hand and Shield. Though I do find it somewhat sad that there is only two magicka based weapons in the entire game, both of which are staves than require two-hands to equip (even though you only use one hand to attack with).

    in morrowind you could easily find a dagger or sword and use it for a while and it did fair damage. but once you got into a fight with a ghost or a daedric enemy, then upon every single hit you would do ZERO damage. and a message would come up with every single hit that said ...

    "your weapon has no effect"

    you could only do damage to ghosts or daedric creatures if you had an enchantment on the weapon.

    now here in eso we do see people putting enchantments on prety much every single weapon, so in all fairness those daggers your mentioning on the duel wielder are probably magicka based because of those enchantments.

    I think he meant that he would like to see more Magicka based weapons that do not count as physical attacks but are based off of your Magicka value and therefore count as magical attacks.

    Only having staves is somewhat boring, but makes sense. I'm not sure how they could go about implementing more magical based weapons or how to make the current ones have more value to Magicka builds.

    All I can think of for now is perhaps adding a new enchantment or trait that would convert the Stamina based damage to Magicka based.

    Only having staves is somewhat boring, but makes sense. I'm not sure how they could go about implementing more magical based weapons or how to make the current ones have more value to Magicka builds.

    Personally I would love to see some options there as well. I mean... melee fighters generally get a choice between sword, axe and mace (and possibly dagger too), but ranged fighters... only have bow, or different flavor of staff.

    For archers I always wish they would get a choice between bow and crossbow for their skills.

    Mages on the other hand... I hate they only get staves, so I keep imagining that maybe there could be some alternate weapojn using the same destruction and restoration skills... some "spell focus", like a holy symbol, shamans rattle, enchanted crystal, ornate spellbook... (depending on racial style). Hold in your left hand, operate with your right hand (as in, make mystic gestures above it to activate spells), so it'd be just the same in effect, but giving us more options in looks...

    As for magical melee... well, that doesn't really work together well. Magical spells are brainpower, sort of, melee weapon generally is muscle power. Just slot lots of short range spells of chuck them fireballs at pint blank range...

    What I -would- like to see though is a "spellsword" themed weapon line, "One-handed and wand" for example, for characters with a balanced build, with a stamina melee weapon and a magica wand in the offhand, and a mix of magically charged melee strikes and short-to-mid range wand-cast spells...

    Of course... if there were destruction magic wands added, it would take little time for someone to ask for dual-wielding wands as well... which could easily be fitted into destruction magic, in an "one-two-one-two" way of casting spells from the wands, alternating elemental types... at a cost of lower total damage per strike for using a wand instead of a full staff or spell focus...

    Ah, ideas... one can hope that maaaybe someday someone among the powers that be sees my rantings and gets inspired...

    Or if it was made from Silver or Ebony. I think Dwemer weapons also affected them, but it's been awhile.

    It was a neat effect... but... not really relevant to this conversation.

    Of course...because dual wield gives the highest spell dmg. They aren't using any of the dual wield skills. so its more skinning than anything tbh.

    The only issue is that heavy attack with dual wield gives back stamina and not magicka - which is no biggie since the passive magic regen is so high on these builds that's how they recover.

    if we had jedi lasers that would solve the problem.

    afaik there are no glowing swords that stay 100% glowing all the time.

    I use two hand greatsword instead of staff on one sorc. I wish there was a magic based way to use greatsword.

    There are a few magicka based weapons I believe they could make:

    1. Corruption Staff: This would represent magical poison/disease based light/heavy damage, and focus heavily on debuffing the target.
    2. Illusion Staff: This would include shadowy magic based powers often with fear based effects, cloaking, etc. Magicka based damage.
    3. Earth Staff: This one would include abilities like 'Ash Rune', and some Rocky/earthy crowd control effects.
    4. Water Staff: Think of some of the abilities the Nereids use.
    5. Nature Staff: This one could include abilities that send swarms of bees, angry wolves, summon lurchers etc. Light/Heavy attacks could be poison based damage.

    I realize some of these things could be replicated by Spellcrafting, but perhaps some would not. These are just a few ideas of something they could easily bring into the game. All this being said I'd much rather see them add Spears, Whispering Fang, Spear and Shield and so forth, but I generally favor playing the Warrior/Rogue/Scout style gameplay.

    Back when the Greatsword offered 100% chance to proc elemental effects, it was a much better weapon to use as a mage. Once they got rid of that effect, it completely changed a build I had. That character uses Staves now. A lot of things in the game are like this. We build for the way the rules are intended, and then the rules get upended entirely. To be fair this happens in every single MMO I've ever played, seen or read about as time passes.

    ha well it's a fantasy game so they could have a "Glowing Blade of Gorba-Duul" or something. :p
