The ability to inspect?

I always come across someone and really start to wonder what armour they are wearing, I think that the option to inspect one another would be a great addition and would save people a lot of time sending messages and googling things.
I also believe that it should say what style of armour you are wearing somewhere as well.

    And your reasoning is....

Because while you may want that feature simply to see the name or style of armor a player is wearing, it would end up being used to exclude players from groups and other content based on what their gear is. There's quite enough elitism in this game as it is. If you want to know what gear someone is using, ask. If they want you to know, they will tell you.

No, there is no need for the ability to inspect and, especially when grouping for dungeons or other group activity, it is divisive with people being excluded from grouping just because someone doesn't like their gear, regardless of that person's ability to play, causing a lot of bad feeling which ESO does not need.

Personally,I have asked someone what armor they are wearing, and they didnt seem to mind letting me know.I never asked for the stats.Still,it would be kinda cool to see what armor pieces or sets someone has if you really like them. Why not put the option, but not the stats. That way it wouldnt bother some people who think elitists would eliminate players due to their gear.

This has been brought up before and yes I would like to show off and explain my own build but no cause I don't want players stealing it and exploiting it or saying how they came up with it an saying I'm the rip off.

Like there's already so many cookie cutter builds in the game and the Battle Master Corner isn't helping with it mostly showing off OP cookie cutter builds.

This is needed so that you dont waste your time with people greatly under geared. It would also be nice to see others stats.

Gear inspection will drive players away like the plague. It is simply to easy to abuse and harass with.

NO. OP, if you are curious about someone else's gear, ask them. Most will be happy to tell something about it.

You could just... I dunno, this may be really far out there... interact with them. Ask what robe it is or what dye is on their boots.

It can't be that hard to memorize what the different motifs actually look like, can it? And as allready said, if you want to know if it's a crafted or dropped set, ask.

Like I said before, if you want to know, just ask. This is much easier on PC however. On console, if you asked someone that in voice chat they would tell you "If I wanted you to know I'd tell you! Go eat a bowl of [snip]!" while their dogs are barking, kids are crying, and wife is yelling at them in the background.

Eh... if I like someones look, I'd ask. Or look it up on someplace like http://eso-fashion.com/

As has been mentioned, being able to inspect will lead to quite a bit of annoyance. Yes, exactly that "not good enough to play with us, we want a speedrun through that trial, only super-effective gear setups need apply" kind. Also another kind so full of insults about someones, let's say, suboptimal gear choices I can't go into details without getting in trouble concerning the for rules. Both su... uhm... are not very nice to experience. I personalyl think ESO is better for not allowing the option.

Now... what I -would- love to have as an "inspect" feature was a little character bio other players could read... but then, I guess that's mostly a roleplayer thing... (and we also know all too many players would fill it with inventive and exaggerated claims about their overly great PvPness...) ;)

I agree. I chased after this woman in town one night trying to get a look at her gear and I could tell she was getting a little weirded out by me following her. :p

In 1.8 there will be Inspect, GearScore, and CP will be displayed.

A new number that averages your GearScore and total CP will be displayed next to your character name.

If I wanted random scrubs following me around and inspecting me to give me unsolicited advice about my build, I'd go play that other game.

If you're curious about someone's style, ask. If you're concerned about whether someone is properly geared for a group activity, ask.

If they want to play with you I bet they'll gladly answer.

Exactly and not only would an inspect feature let us see their gear, it would should let us see their character name as well which is something we currently can't see on console.

Yes, I agree. It really doesn't get any simpler than this.
Compliment them on their nice style/colour/armour/etc, and ask them what you want to know.
If you can be anything, be kind.
