Random (Revival) Acts of Kindness - plus two questions

It may seem like a dumb use of a soul gem, but I hate exploring out in the wild or in a dungeon and seeing some player down with that white cross mark. Since my friends are often not on at the same time as me and I'm not interested in PvP yet, a lot of my time is just solo PvE with no friends to revive. I seem to be pretty good about not dying myself, so I rarely have to use them on me and when I do go down, I usually just revive to a wayshrine rather than right there. I also pick up new, better weapons at a fast enough rate that I've never bothered to use them to recharge an enchanted item either. So, they just sorta sit there in my inventory, really.

So, if the person doesn't immediately disappear to respawn at a wayshrine, sometimes I stop and revive them if I have the right level of soul gem on hand. Kinda feels nice to do, like a random act of kindness. Plus, the way their character usually stands up and stares at you sorta bewildered is pretty amusing. :)

Was curious if anyone else did that sometimes or if I'm as big a sentimental sap as I think I am?

Also have two questions regarding it - one time, I revived someone, but it sat there saying "Resurrection Pending" or something like that for an incredibly long amount of time. I eventually walked away as it seem the revival was not going to happen. What, exactly, DOES "Resurrection Pending" mean? Like, what's happening to the dead character that's preventing them from reviving? And if a revival is seemingly unsuccessful like that, do I get my soul gem back (I didn't bother to check my inventory afterwards, but I should have) or did it just end up wasted?

Cheers!

"Resurrection Pending" means someone else has already used a soul gem to resurrect them, but its waiting on them to "accept" it.

I do the same thing as well since I pretty much always have a large amount of soul gems.

I have hundreds of soul gems (I PvP a lot) and I always revive anyone who I see dead. In PvP or PvE areas.

Just seems the right thing to do. :)

I do the same thing, just think it's nice thing to do. I'd like to think that other players would do the same.

That is kind and generous of you. :) Resurrection pending means the player hasn't accepted your rez yet. Many people take the opportunity to go afk for a bit when they die in the open world.

It happens in Cyrodiil too, which can have a negative impact on your alliance, because you can't rez another player until the last one accepts or times out. You can be surrounded by dead teammates that you can't bring back to the fight just because one guy went afk in a keep. :#

Oh nothing annoys me so much in PvP. Especially in a tight fight and you're trying to get as many people up as you can...

2 points into the soul line passive and 200 empty soul gems, gives me a lot of full ones, i've never dropped below the 50 soul gems mark since.

It confuses me how people are so stingy with soul gems, there easy to get and really cheap.

I used to try to revive people quite often, but I don't think I've ever had anyone actually accept it more than once or twice.

I think the problem is that most people that die just quickly return to a wayshrine or res themselves, and if there's someone just laying there dead for any period of time, they are most likely AFK, and aren't there to accept my res anyway.

I've since stopped wasting my time trying to res people.

one time a tiny little bosmer nightblade followed my friend and I around in cyrodiil, he wouldn't participate in any of our fights but as soon as one of us fell he'd storm over and rez us. When we asked him why he was just quietly following us he said that "he didn't like fighting but he liked resurrecting people, and that he gotta brb cause he had to go fill some more soul gems " (he wouldn't take the ones we offered him)

Most adorable thing I had heard in a while lol

If there are other people around, I'll stop and teabag them. Otherwise, I'll just go on my merry way.

I don't expect other people to revive me. If I let myself get in over my head, that's my fault. If I don't have a Soul Gem on me, that too is my fault.

And besides, from my experience playing a class with a revive skill in past games, people want you to revive them selfishly. I've had everything from offers to pay me for revival (which they then proceeded to run off without paying) to insulting me for being the class then beg for my help then insult me more after I refused to help them. And trust me, it's about as unattractive as it sounds.

Had a similar (ish) situation a couple of weeks ago.

New v6, wanting to be a healer. Had a low level group and went into an Undaunted Daily. Poor guy got drained sooo quickly - didn't have the right gear, CP allocation (only a few, but all helps) and no enchants on any of his mis-matched gear.

After we dropped a few times at the final boss (Elden Hollow) I suggested I bring in my healer to cover them and they all DPS - which worked....JUST! and we made it out of there.

Spent the following 2 hrs buying him and making him all the gear he needed to actually be a half decent Healer. Really nice guy and told him to pay it forward when he can.

Got a message from him last night, now v12 or v13 - saying he was saving his gold ready to pay everything forward to someone when he comes across them.

As someone who sells filled grand soul gems at a reasonable cost this thread warms my heart. If I see a white cross I revive the player almost every time. When you're in PVP don't think rezzing goes unnoticed. The more you do it the more you'll get rezzed.

On a side note one of my buddies was given 2 Physic Ambrosia potions yesterday because some nice person saw that he was grinding from VR13 to VR14 and thought he could use a boost.

Also besides rezzing the two nicest things I've probably done in this game were to give a very friendly level 12 person a full set of armor and a VR1 helmet just because they were cool, and I ran two jerks away from a guy they were verbally harassing. These two were yelling into the mic demanding that some level 3 give them gold for used bait. I jumped in and told them I'd give them 50 filled grand soul gems if they leave him alone. They stopped harassing him and I ported away giving them nothing. They got exactly what they deserved.

I typically revive anyone I see regardless. I don't expect anything in return and I don't expect anyone else to revive me if I manage to get myself downed. The way I see it, it's my one (or more) good deed of the day. If someone uses it, awesome. If not, because they're afk or whatever, that's also fine. It just give me a happy feeling knowing that I could help someone if I can. It's not like soul gems are that scarce that I can't spare a few every once in awhile.

Yeah, that's how I view it, too. I don't expect anything in return or for a random to revive me, but I enjoy actively helping when I can.

My only exception is if someone murdered an NPC in town or is otherwise on the run from the law. Sorry, buddy, but you brought that on yourself. :P

Just so you know, a filled Grand Soul gem will rez any level of character.

I have resurrected the odd player here and there, but most of the time, nothing happens. I seem to come across those who probably went AFK and some mob came along and killed them. Probably because they do the same thing I do, something in re real world distracts them, they go to take care of something, and forget to come back to the game, so they are in essence logged out but the game does not remove them from the world. But some mob came along and killed them while this was going on.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
