I can't remember the last time I had just 1 character in an RPG.

If it's a game like Zelda or Assassins Creed where you can't customise your character and rarely/never get to make choices that change the storyline I'll just stick to one (although I might restart at some point, like going for a 100% completion playthrough after finishing it the first time).

But in a game which lets you customise your character, especially when it can make combat completely different, or where there are different and branching storylines I usually want to try most/all of them so I end up with multiple different characters.

I have 4 in ESO, not counting my mule, and plans for a 5th and 6th.

I have one main, but I have two others I play regularly, and three others that I play sporadically. And then I have one mule. I only have one slot left, and I'm afraid to use it!

I have several characters but can't decide on a 'main'... I keep reaching a certain level and then getting an idea for a new character and starting over.

I was doing multiple characters where each one was a different party role and one pure crafter, but it got to the point where I was spending so much time on my crafter gathering and leveling my crafting skills and getting almost no where with any other character. Add to it that I realized that my crafter would have to travel around and actually level to get further in crafting, which I hadn't planned on doing with that character, and it just got to be too much. So then I did some inventory rearranging and now I just focus on one until I get to the point where I want to level another character for other purposes. I still have the other characters, but I'll probably delete them and start over with them since they're scattered across all the factions (which is something I did because at the time I didn't know about the vet level situation and I wanted to experience all three stories).

I pick the main roles I love to play.

That maxes it in two characters

I picked 1 but I cheated. I also have a level 3 that I played once and a euro server character for outages. So I'm 99.99% 1 character.

I was a V14 stamina NB with 90+ days played, but soon dodgeroll won't work and cloak is still broken by gapclosers.

So now I occasionally play my V2 DK that will be x3 times stronger.
No other MMOs out at the moment, really. =P

I have just one that I created in the early access and play only him. Imperial DK.

With the way ZOS changes the meta every other month it's nice to have one of each when your favorite gets the nerf bat. RIP DK

A dozen characters for me, and doubtless that will rise as I can't expect to have empty slots for long !

I'm pretty much the opposite of an alt-aholic. I've only ever really played one character in each MMO I've ever played.

Part of that could be because I'm mainly a solo PVE'er by nature and part of it could be because of some advice I received from a veteran MMO'er when I was just starting out many years back: if you play practically 24/7, then go ahead and play a main and several alts; if your time is much more limited, then simply devote all of the game time and energy you do have on one character (maybe two) rather than spreading your already limited time and energy among many characters.

As I've always unfortunately fell in the latter camp , that advice has served me well, particularly when I see that I've only finished maxing out my main when everyone else who's started at about the same time as me have already maxed out their main and 3-4 alts.

I only have one. I don't play often enough to warrant any more.

There is so much to do in this game. Combine this with full time(and overtime) job and family and this = 1 Character.
